I have a similar tent from OVS. This is one of the most useful videos I have seen in awhile. Never thought of the storing the shoe bags, awning poles and a rug right on top. Those are game changing ideas for a quick and easy tear down without misplacing things. Just need to remember they are there before setting up and catching them with your face!

out of all of this, my take away is the great solution of the door mat storage. I have been rolling mine up and taking up space! Great simple solution.

Everyone’s building Prelander Suburban’s now. Prerunner suspensions and Overlanding interiors. LS V8 perfection.

Ive not had any issues which call for hacks 1 and 2 to be employed. But hack #3 is gold mate!

I put the spring bars in the open hinge area when folded. I do like the cam strap idea. I have snap buckles on my cvt and already broke one.

Try a CVT. Great mattress and very durable. I like your last hacks the best, thanks.

Great hacks! These address some of the biggest issues I've had with my tent. Now the only two problems I still have are the noise when it's windy (so much flapping!) and drying it out in the winter when it's constantly raining. I think I'm going to move to a pop-up hard shell.

I have that tent. Purchased used for $600 but its all well taken care of. For the velcro tie downs, my replacement idea is to use buckles to just snap it to shut, snap it to remove.

Good hacks. I used to have e a yalima tent that had all the same issues. I did similar hacks. But instead out a self inflating matress. And electric blanket. . I just switched to the roofnes overlander. And most of those issues are gone. They sell a self inflating mattress. But I just added the one I've been using . Plus it's more aerodynamic

I just got my rtt and saw a hack where you push as much inward at the door as possible and it folds up like a champ , I put a condensation ,at under the matteress and that added 10mm then a closed cell foam to go under the original matteress and finally a fitted sheet to hold it all together . I just leave the duvet and pillows out on the back seat of my car and toss them in after unpacking the tent

what size topper fits best? I can't find dimensions for the mattress... king or queen?

Right on. Those velco straps are terrible. I like the idea of replacing the woth cam lock straps. I have 2 Tepui Ruggedized Autana 3s and a Roam Vagabond XL. Both have bungees inside that pull the sides in. I have found that construction is similar. The Roam has many nicer features, but the Tepui is much heavier duty. The tie down loops that pull the entrance over hang down are terrible on the Roam. Very weak.

Most hardshell tents address all these issues, minus the mattress, they all suck lol. I prefer the air mattresses like the iKamper or the exped. It will allow you to completely remove the foam and have much more room for bedding and pillows.

Man, I dont know what kinda whacko tents you have in the US but here in AUS every RTT ive seen has been so well designed even the cheaper ones which i recently installed on my Ute. Unclip the cover which is adjustable to suit however much bedding you put inside, then unhook a latch which lets the hydraulic shocks open the whole tent up for you.. less than 2 minutes and you're already climbing inside for the night..

You must be talking about hard top tents. All soft tops have these issues, especially the folding up issue. I am in Oz and have a rtt with these problems.

Buddy you listed a thin mattress as a downside to a rooftop tent? What other tents come with any kind of mattress? I'd take a crappy mattress over rocks in my back on the ground

Buddy, who sleeps in a ground tent without a mattress? What other tent can only fit a 2” hard foam mattress?

I bought a topper for a double bed and it fits in my roof tent. A Fjordesen. Yes they can be expensive but if take your old one off your bed and renew that. Happy days.

I’m pretty simple, I wish your photography of the cam lock hack had been a little better. The angle was wrong to get a good look at exactly what you did and the tent flapping in the way didn’t help. It’s left me wanting a better view
