Don’t forget that English monarchy traces back to William the Conqueror - a Norman (French) after the invasion in 1066. The official court language of England was French for about another 500 years and longer in official documents. Elizabeth II speaks fluent French, and despite the “traditional” and historical rivalry, French fashions & artistry have always been taken up to some extent by the English and other courts.

Obviously. Few of you have ever eaten AUTHENTIC English fruitcake. Don't bother with the tripe sold in grocery stores and other big box shops. That stuff is garbage! The recipe I have has been handed down in the family for over 500 years. It includes a variety of candied fruits, currants, golden raisins, raisins, walnuts, and is laced with brandy. My mother made a dozen of them the day after Thanksgiving. They were well wrapped and aged until Christmas Eve. Guests were served a slice with hard sauce and hot coffee thtought the holidays, which lasted to Epiphany. My grandmother made the plum pudding that was Christmas day's post dinner dessert. YUM!!

Recent Royal wedding meals (like all official meals at any active British Royal palace) tend to be heavy on British produce, I believe this is due to the fact a lot of foreign dignitaries usually attend rwms and the Royals like to show off. Also, remember the Royal family have a large wine cellars. So the champagne served at the Queen and Prince Philip's (Rip Philip) reception was likely from said cellars

Just a few notes: Lyme bay is not on the coast of Cornwall but Dorset, close to the Devon border. It would be like saying Big Sur is in Washington state rather than California. Berkshire is pronounced “Barkshire”. The idea of wedding cakes being soaked with alcohol is to preserve it as a layer was often kept and used for the baptism of future children (as William and Kate did). Fruit cake shouldn’t be stodgy and if made well, isn’t. The fruit cake wasn’t only for royals, it used to be the usual form of wedding cake for everyone. People theses days don’t always chose fruit cakes for weddings which obviously means a layer cannot be kept for future christenings as the cake would go mouldy.

Authentic English fruitcake is NOTHING like the crap sold in American groceries and big box stores. My family's recipes for fruitcake and figgy pudding go back 500 years or so, with a few modifications for modern ovens. They involve rum or flaming brandy. Fruitcake is stored for weeks before eating. Figgy pudding is described in the Cratchit's Christmas dinner in Dickens's A Christmas Carol.

@Jessica Miander you're saying she has a bad personality because she, an English person, made a comment correcting an American on their pronunciation of an English county? She wasn't rude, it was a short correction. Calm down.

Fruit cake is yummy, last year was the first year I didn't have a fruit cake my mom would get upset whenever she'd see the fruitcake catapulted in the air on food network shows that would air during the holidays. Growing up my Christmas morning breakfast plate would have a couple pieces of fruit cake with a glass of orange juice. Best breakfast ever. I watched the Duke and Dutchess of Cambridge's wedding over and over the weekend it came on, did the same when the Duke and Dutchess of Sussex got married.

Some people eat fruit cake with a piece of cheese, it's really tasty. It might be a Yorkshire thing.

I find the menus for the royal weddings very elegant and interesting. At my own wedding all that was served was spaghetti, lasagna, tossed salad, and white wedding cake for dessert. And of course we had sherbet punch to drink.

Can you imagine the horrors that chef must have experienced to be inspired to “cream” a fish?

Phillip and Elizabeth could not have hosted 140 guests for breakfast in the Ball Supper Room of Buckingham Palace. That room would not accommodate that many people. Their wedding feast was in the Ballroom where most of the state dinners take place

Thanks for making this, amazing as always! Please could you do more videos on Asian and African royalty, just I’m 14 and have studied all of English history but can’t seem to find anything on other cultures’ history. Or maybe about the acknowledged illegitimate children of monarchs? Thank you, Sadie :)

Can you make a video on other royal weddings, what was served for those weddings? Meghan and Harry, Princess Michael of Kent and Prince Michael of Kent, Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank, Princess Anne and Mark Phillips, & Princess Anne and Timothy Laurence, etc. Thank you!

Sorry pommes noisette are not hazelnut potatoes , they are made with adding flour to potatoes and they are called noisette because of their shape and color when slowly fried . In fact their size resembles golf balls . 🤷♀️. 🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷

I thought Prince Philip had given up his foreign titles before they married and that he'd been given the title Duke of Edinburgh (amongst other titles) before they were wed. Also, he didn't receive the title of Prince of the United Kingdom until about ten years after their marriage.

I know it is impolite not to eat what is served…..but I can’t eat meat, just chicken breast, we call our selves semi vegetarian….if you don’t eat meat you know longer have the acid to digest it….it makes a hasty exit back up….. but those veggies look so good, and I love fruit cake, people laugh at it, I make it every Christmas.
