Riiiiiiight, because you've clearly never been an RV, and fail to understand it's HOOKED INTO POWER AND WATER, and UP ON HYDRAULIC JACKS that level the entire vehicle out. You can't just jump in the driver's seat and go, especially when your back right tire is already OFF the part of the embankment that already collapsed. They were lucky to get out with their wallet, purse, animals, and medication.

I use to live in Santa Clarita or also called Valencia, and the entire area is built on packed "sand". I use to walk my dog up on the hills above and from there you can get close to deep crevices in the hillside that show just how unstable the ground is. Usually it never rains much so it is not much of a concern. Not so this year.

You realize they are HOOKED UP to water and power, right??? You can just drive off spontaneously, especially if you're up on jacks to "level" the RV off so the refrigerator will work. The embankment gave way at 2:30 AM, and that back right wheel was HANGING OFF the part that collapsed. It's not a car. It's hooked up to water power, etc. AND on jacks.

Surely you understand how an RV works??? It is hooked into shore power, and water, and usually up on hydraulic jacks to stabilize it. You can't just jump in the driver's seat and drive forward. How do you think they have electricity? How do you think they take showers in there? How do you think they can run a refrigerator (tip: they have hydraulic jacks that LEVEL the entire vehicle to the refrigerator can function). It's not a car. It's not a truck. It's not an SUV. It's not a moving van. Have you never once seen someone try to PARK an RV...and watch how long it takes them to get it straight...then level...then hook it up to the water and the shore power??? I'm guessing that is a NO? Yeah, I don't have an RV either, but all it takes is watching one or two YT videos and seeing what a freaking hassle it is to have one. That is why no one just "hopped in the driver seat and drove it 20 feet". Did you see that back right tire hanging OFF the part that collapsed? These people were asleep when this suddenly gave way. They were lucky to get out alive, with their pets, and their identity documents and meds.
@austinado16
@austinado16 Жыл бұрын
@@le_th_ Calm down there keyboard warrior. That's a $250,000 rig, so what's worth more? Taking 5 seconds to unplug the electrical cord, unscrew the garden hose, and kick the plastic sewer pipe out from under, and drag it while still on the jacks if for some reason those won't retract? Or spend 8-10hrs standing around doing nothing, and letting it fall in and be a total loss, a bit of a hazmat situation, and a monster of a recovery operation (not that it's savable, but to get it out of the river or later, the ocean. This event didn't just happen in 5 minutes.

@@le_th_ I full time RV in a fifth wheel 36 feet. In an emergency I can pull power, water, other hoses, lift landing gear and hook it to my truck in 20 minutes. What if this news article left out some pretty relevant informations? They did not state that the ground beneath the the rear tires had already softened, causing the vehicle to slowly sink before the ground below washed away @2:30 am when the neighbors homes fell in. In the heavy rain at that time most were worried about sleep. The media needed you to think “Why didn’t they just move the RV?” Not to mention at that the size, of the tow truck required to pull that RV couldn’t get there. The media needed to grab your attention. I do really hope their insurance covers this. Wow. Let’s try to be quick to think slow to judge. I would love to hear the actual owner’s perspective.
