Love the shrub selection - I also like to see garden projects! LOL I use my outside camera's sometimes to retrace my steps - I planted a small tree recently and from digging the hole, mixing in the compost etc, planting the tree and adding mulch, I lost my pruners! I retraced all my steps that day until I remembered to look at the footage. I saw myself throwing the pruners aside but in the hole not over to the side! I dug them up right where they were - I was so happy🙂

That is hysterical! Can you imagine how many people have done the same with their pruners but never find them! I have lost 2🙄

I agree with Mary K: that IS hysterical! But I’ve lost pruners too, so I can relate to you both. And I have no idea where they ended up, so perhaps they’re underground now. 🙃🙂 It’s great you could use your cameras to find them. 👍

@Mary K You’ve lost one more pair than I have Mary! Isn’t it crazy trying to find them? I retrace my steps like @Snappy R mentioned. Several times. And then I think I’m missing them right in front of me. It always takes awhile for me to admit defeat! 🤣

What a satisfying garden project!!! I can imagine the labor involved. The work was well worth it. The area looks great! How funny that a shrub went missing. As always, a great video, Laura! BTW, I emailed you yesterday :)

Thanks Doleen - glad you liked it! 😊 Yes it was a lot of labor - especially for my husband. I do love the area now, especially how easy-care it is…well except for that missing shrub! 🤣

When in doubt, blame the bunnies. They eat my Iris leaves even though they’re toxic. They ate my miniature rose down to a stump while leaving the others alone. They’re just not very bright. 😂

You’re so right Will - they aren’t bright, and last year ate one of my Yuccas down to a stump, also toxic. The weird thing to me is that I never noticed one was missing until this week. And then still doubted my own eyes. 😂😵‍💫

I have the opposite problem - sandy soil that holds no moisture…but I enjoyed watching your project! Those shrubs have great multi- season interest. I look forward to seeing them fill in the space.

Oh wow - so you have the opposite soil situation where the sandy soil drains and dries very quickly. I bet you have had to add a bit of nutrients with compost and mulch. 🌿 I’m looking forward to the Clethras getting bigger, as all three shrubs have good Fall color, hopefully red - gold - bright red. Someday! 🙂❤️💛❤️

Hi, would anyone have recommendations for big flowering shrubs or small trees for exactly the same conditions? Thanks

I have a little henry sweetspire AND a summersweet (clethra) - LOVE LOVE LOVE them!! What an interesting process digging those holes and seeing how the water drains. I have very similar soil in my back garden (off to one side where it slopes down and is wet). I put in a arrowwood viburnum in that spot and it's doing great! I am such a fan of natives. Funny that a shrub went completely missing.. really is a mystery. Great video as always, very informative & enjoyable 🙂

Ooohhh that’s great to hear that you love your Sweetspire and Clethra! 💚 Wet areas can be challenging but once we figure them out with the right plants, it’s much easier! And your Viburnum sounds like another good choice! Yes, my missing Clethra is definitely funny yet confusing at the same time! 🙃🙂

Can Sambucus Nigra take wet and heavy clay soil ?
@GardenSanity
@GardenSanity Жыл бұрын
Yes it can! It does well in wet soils. If you have heavy clay, it should also do well. This shrub likes either acid or alkaline soils and is a really tough plant that can handle challenging spots in your garden. (It's also very pretty!) I hope this info helps!

TOTALLY agree about landscape fabric!! It’s HORRIBLE! If I need to, I use heavy cardboard.🚫to landscape fabric!

Hooray for another anti-landscape fabric gardener! 😀 (Wonder how many of us are out there?) Cardboard is an excellent solution, Mary! Love it! ❤️
