I really want to subscribe to your channel but just can't with all the MID-video ads. that just cut off the video. My understanding is that channels can turn those off. Manage mid-roll ad breaks in long videos On monetized videos that are 8 minutes or longer, you can also turn on ads during the middle of the video (known as "mid-rolls"). By default, mid-roll ads are automatically placed at natural breaks in your videos to balance viewer experience and monetization potential for you. If you don’t have mid-roll ads turned on as the default for new uploads, you can turn them on for individual videos.

It's interesting what she says here about how the oils "smell really good to us, but they irritate rabbits and cause them to want to flee". Did you know that over a third of the population (as of the statistics of an MCS study several years ago) has some degree of chemical sensitivity dealing with Fragrance? That irritation aspect which rabbits experience is exactly the same with some humans. Fragrance (chemical/synthetic ones) cause vicious physiological issues like sinus irritation, asthma, CNS problems, etc. Why the other 2/3 of the human population does not have issues with Fragrance is very interesting. At some point, a human can suddenly develop MCS. This has me wondering if some rabbits are not affected. I've observed varied behavior between garden rabbits and noticed their threshold for the fleeing response is different. Some of them will not flee unless they see a big bucket flying towards them. Others run when you make one step.

Hi Kelly - glad you found me! I know we are getting into the heat of the Summer here in NJ, but you could still plant them now IF you provided a lot of water and made sure they didn't get scorched by the sun. An alternative is to plant them in late Summer/early Fall, which will still allow them to get established in time before the dormant season of Winter. Make sure to use some Bio-tone in the planting holes, to help the roots get established more quickly. (And in the Winter, make sure the ground is well covered with mulch to protect the roots from drying out.) I'm finding that the Perfecto Mundo Pink Carpet is a slow grower so far, but this is only the beginning of its second season in the ground for me, so I need to remember my own advice to be patient! Please keep me posted if you plant these on how they're doing for you. 🌸 🙂

Hi Alisha -- I love using my tiny garden snips, I'm definitely not a fan of shears either for such a delicate job, unless there are large patches of Dianthus to attend to. I find that the Dianthus plants pull up "with" any pulling off of the tiny heads, so I just snip them instead. I did 4 plants yesterday in under 5 minutes! How do you pull them up without bringing any of the plant "with" what you're pulling? (I'm always interested to learn from others!)

First of all, if you're growing plants, then you are a gardener! And I'm sure you're not terrible. Everyone has to start somewhere and learning is part of the fun of gardening. We all make mistakes, and we all have successes! I’m on my second Salix. My first was a standard hakuro nishiki. After a few years it started reverting to the large green leaves. Every time I cut it back the large green leaves came back. It’s now at least 40 feet tall, 30 feet wide! It is all solid green. I just planted a salix pink flamingo a month ago in spring. It’s showing leaves that are already reverting to plain green! When I told the nursery owner he said that was the normal spring growth. Big fat lie to avoid refunding my $50! I’m done with this plant.

But you don't explain exactly where you should cut or why. Some say 1/4 inch above the 5 leaves. Some also say if the 5 leaves are turning inward not to deadhead. So I think more needs to be explained in your video.
@GardenSanity
@GardenSanity 2 күн бұрын
Hi Rayna, I appreciate your feedback! Actually I do explain exactly where to cut, starting at minute 1:29 where I demonstrate how to do so. Knockout Roses are MUCH easier to deadhead than other types of roses. You don't need to worry about how many leaves to cut back to, or which way the leaves are facing. (Mention this at 2:15) You simply remove the dead rose heads, and if you look closely, sometimes you'll already see the new growth coming up just below where you're making your cut. (Example at 2:33) That new growth (that looks so tiny) will be more roses! If you cut down too low on Knockout Roses, you'll end up removing this new growth and won't enjoy as many roses coming up. I hope this helps! ❤️ 🌹

I have trimmed up my dappled willow into a three trunk standard. Of course it threw out a large amount of suckers so cut them and sprayed with sucker punch. I would like to braid these stems but them are too stiff. Maybe in the winter I will try. I think I will just be able to twist them around each other.😊
@GardenSanity
@GardenSanity 2 күн бұрын
I love multi-trunk Dappled Willow standards, Jo! I think they are so very pretty! 👍 Not sure if the twisting or braiding will work, like you said these stems can be quite stiff as they develop. The other thing to watch is that these stems don't end up rubbing against each other once twisted, because any movement between these stems will start rubbing off the protective outer layer, which could enable the stems to become diseased or even just weakened. Just a note of caution, that's all. 💚 🌿

I just bought a Dappled willow about a month ago, planted it in th ground and watered it well. It's getting brown leaves and also losing leaves down the stems. I have tried to keep it watered well in this heat we're having in Maryland.
@GardenSanity
@GardenSanity 7 күн бұрын
Hi Nikki, I’ve had that happen before, and it is usually transplant shock that happens sometimes when there’s hot weather like you mentioned. Hang in there and keep giving it regular water. Don’t drown it, but make sure the soil doesn’t dry out. I just transplanted a small seedling (mentioned in the video) from the garden back into a pot. It was beautiful, but now has all brown leaves. However, I know that the plant will recover and start to push out new growth eventually… it just make take awhile in this heat. Another idea in the meantime: check where you bought the shrub to see what their refund policy is. If they still have Dappled Willow, it may be an option to just start fresh and get a new shrub as a replacement. When you plant it, add some Bio-tone by Espoma into the planting hole. It’s a great starter fertilizer that helps roots get established so the shrub will have better success. 👍 Keep me posted!

Can’t wait to see what you have in the new beds. A couple ideas; a variegated Japanese Silver grass in front of Magnolia Jane and All Gold Hakonecloa amongst the blue evergreens. It’s ok to tell me if you think my ideas are dumb.
@GardenSanity
@GardenSanity 7 күн бұрын
Nice ideas - not dumb! The “All Gold” needs more shade than that area gets, but it’s a great suggestion to keep in mind for other areas for its vibrant color! 👍 I used to have several Japanese Silver Grasses in the front yard where the Red and Yellow Twig Dogwoods are now. The grasses were beautiful but eventually grew SO wide and large they became a bit unruly - so I’m a bit reticent to try them again. I do have a few variegated sedges that can take more sun…still in the same pots for years 😱🤣 that might work. They have some of that yellow gold color you’ve now put in my head. Hmmm… 🤔 Do you grow the All Gold?

@@GardenSanity I have the Silver Grass and yeah I have to divide it a lot. It was HUGE! Never needs watering though. I bought one of these almost 30 years ago when I began having problems with my knees. After my first knee surgery in 1996 (a TTT surgery, not TKR) I could no longer use it because the cushions were just too hard to kneel on. For anyone with knee issues I think you would want to add another thicker and softer pad somehow. This pad is not soft at all, unless you’re comparing it to bare ground or concrete. Kneeling on grass is softer in my opinion. It also is narrow front to back and a bit top heavy in design so it is quite easy to tip forwards or backwards if it is on rough ground when used as a bench, which I found dangerous. I love the idea of this bench; I just think it would be better if it could be adjusted in height for shorter folks when used as a bench, adjust for unlevel ground so it was less tippy and that it had a MUCH softer and thicker cushion when used as a kneeler. I basically stopped gardening in the ground to the degree I did before and opted for only perennials and ground covers that were very easy care and lots of Preen to keep weeds at bay, or I planted in smallish containers that I could lift to a comfortable height to weed. I’m hoping to add some window boxes that I can reach from the ground in the future.
@GardenSanity
@GardenSanity 6 күн бұрын
Hi Trina, thanks for sharing your story. Knee pain and surgery is no picnic. ☹️ I had a double hip replacement - not the same as knees, but still limiting and painful before the surgery. These garden kneeler benches have improved from what you purchased 30 years ago, but yes the cushion isn’t super-soft so you’re right it provides firmer support. I definitely don’t recommend using this on uneven ground without first really making sure when you put it down that it is stable. I do this by moving it back and forth in place to see if it will end up rocking back and forth or if it stays in place. If it rocks, then I move it around until I find a stable position where it won’t rock around. Only then will I kneel or sit on it. ❤️ You’re smart to plant easy-care perennials and ground covers - I’m a big advocate of doing so, as none of us are getting any younger! 😊 I hope you find some nice window boxes that are easy to plant. I really appreciate you sharing your experience!

The best time is in early Spring, as that’s when it wants to grow, so new growth will appear pretty quickly and you’ll still get to enjoy the pretty pink (and white and green) color in late Spring into early Summer. 🌿 You can also prune it in the Fall if you need to tidy it up. (I have videos on both of those pruning times if you scroll up above and click on the Dappled Willow playlist of videos which should help.) 👍 I have to trim mine up too, as I showed in this video. I’m going to wait until this heat wave is gone and temps will be better (lower). I’ll cut back stems here and there individually rather than an all-over pruning.
