🦒🙌❤️🌹 "oh Jack, really ?!? You should behave like mommy tells you to, it's for your own good" 😇 Goodness me, they are unptedictable sometimes, aren't they? I hope Jack listens to you. Keeping my fingers crossed so that Jack takes the hint and behaves 🤞🍀 On the other hand Fred is looking amazing and it should spike and bloom beautifully. I am looking foward to that. Much love to you all and the best tuesday ever 🤗🥰😘

FFF 😍🙌🏼🤸🏼♀️🥰💐 good evening / morning, meine liebe Freundin! I am telling you, Jack was a bad boy... a stubborn, sulking and angry boy because of what I did to him. Can't blame him, honestly, but I was not expecting it to be this radical... guess he holds a grudge for a long long time. Meanwhile, the spike were going to be the female blooms! Can you believe it? Apparently female blooms come when the orchid is happy.... well, I beg to differ! 😅 and then ... there is Fred! Living his best life! Who cares that there was only 30% of him left 🤷🏼♀️😂 not complaining, but yikes!! Maybe his reaction to being angry was to go full on with growth like a monster kraken 😂 😂I hope that Fred does decide to bloom, it would round off my somewhat disastrous 2022 of loosing catasetinae year on a positive note. I will not be dividing my catasetinae again for a very very long time! They are easier to just up pot. IF Jack gives me a second chance, he will be left well alone and can get as big as he wants for 5 years straight. I hope he hears and reads this 😂 thank you so much for watching, amiga mia! Wishing you a fabulous Wednesday 😘❤️🌸

oh dear, not what I wanted to see. The good news is that, even though the new growth is smaller, it is still plump, so there should be energy available for dormancy and a new growth next year. Hopefully it will start the new growth earlier, it won't rot and the roots can develop normally. The hurricane really did a number on mine because I wasn't able to bring them in before it hit. A couple rotted, which is odd to see when they are nearly mature. One of those was my pileatum 'Pierre Couret' which is a bummer because replacing that won't be easy. But life goes on. On a more positive note, I had ordered a semi-alba maxima before the hurricane and he's been having to hold it for me. I gave the go ahead to ship this week and, such a nice guy, he sent it express (which I didn't pay for) so it will likely be here tomorrow.

I wondered how you made out Michael. I live just above Sebring and we were very fortunate. I thought of you in the aftermath. Sorry you lost some of yours. I hope you can salvage some of the damaged ones.

Don Miguel 🥰💐 I am seriously hoping that it won't start a new growth early!! I won't have the light or the temperatures to make that next growth happy, if it starts too soon. That will drain the bulbs, and possible sign that little piece of paper titled Once Upon a Time! I am not going to force it into dormancy either. That spike would have been the female blooms, can you believe it? 🤦🏼♀️ No, please no new growth! The instructions are: Go To Sleep and then wake up in April, when hopefully we have a normal spring. 🤞🏼 I am so sorry that one of the ones had to be a candidate that would be difficult to replace. Big MEH! And then the hobby comes with a happy feeling and someone does something like that... and the weird world of orchids is on course to being the best thing ever! I am so happy that this worked out so well for you. And that seller... well, mad respect to him 👍🏼 thank you so much for watching, amigo! Hope your day was awesome 😘❤️🌸

FYI the supplement to orchids of the bulletin of the American Orchid Society October 2022 has an excellent article about catasetinae by a grower and judger whose name is Fred Clarke, it is worth a read

Thank you for this video Nina. I have learned so much from you and I do like the challenge of growing Catasetums They certainly give me a lot of a satisfaction when I get it right. Brightest Blessings

Hi Elaine 😍💐 thank YOU so much for watching! Indeed, these have attitude! The minute I think that we are right on track, everything going to schedule BOOM! They certainly are teaching me a lot. Black Pearl, though... nothing see there, move along 😂 An incredible group of orchids 👍🏼 oh, and thank you so much for the heads up on the article by Fred Clarke. I have not been pursuing his advice at all, so, I appreciate the reminder and will go and check it out. Hope your day was beautiful, Elaine 🌸

Mine are still in active growth (one even made a new growth) they are mounted and are doing great despite everyone telling me it couldn't be done 😁 The third one is a species that doesn't go dormant
@NinjaOrchids2 жыл бұрын
HI Ynse 😍💐 well.... you are the mount guru, and they must be such a joy to grow as they should be grown! They grow in trees... why would anyone say that it couldn't be done... I just don't get it! With orchids, anything can be done, as long as whatever we are trying to do meets the orchids' needs. Wow... growing catasetinae on a mount, the root show must be something incomparable with anything else. 😍 nice! Thank you so much for watching, Ynse! I need this one to start going to sleep... or, fatten up a bulb, or 2 or 3... 😅🌸

Oh my word, Nina! Great teaching moment for a valuable video. I think I've said this before, I'll say it again though, growing orchids is NOT for the faint of heart!!! No wonder cartwheels around the patio/room/balcony occur. I will send prayers for Jack! 😉 Your Black Pearl is something I'VE BEEN DROOLING OVER, 😍🤤 as my Black Pearl recovered from last years 'Robi nonsense.' I say this cuz I knew better and did it anyway. 😇😁 Keeping my fingers crossed for even better growth and blooms next year. I do have a question about the Cattleya buds on the far right when showing the HUGE Black Pearl @ 8:53 in your video. My question is how the buds are developing with their lips hanging out. (Sassy!😜) One of my Catt buds did that this year but blasted. Is this a thing they do, but usually not a problem? I am not yet a seasoned orchid grower so anomalies are quite the curiousity to me. Thank you so much Nina! 🙏💖😊 PS: After spending so much time with you these past months I've decided I am ready to convert. Lol I will do a self-watering setup, because I think this will be a bit easier for me, and my amazing daughter who cares for my orchids while I'm away. Thank you so much for all the info you share. I am so, so grateful and I have many laughs with you. 🙏💖😊

HI Robi 😍💐 NOT for the faint hearted indeed! Just when you think everything is going / growing to plan, they will throw you a curve ball. Complacency is the orchid grower's worst enemy. Confidence is also subject to investigation 😂 😂 Jack.... misbehaving!! Black Pearl... I have to take a step back to cope 😂 imagine the contrast with the 2 orchids, treated the same way? Incredible huh? Those lips are sassy indeed!! Aint got no space in that tight space which still has to unfold, and they are like... naaahh... lemme out of here 🤣 that is Cattleya Dinard Blue Heaven. A stunner!! Her buds sparkle with pixie dust... an insane bloom and today they all slowly showed their face. 3 blooms this season which is awesome, considering all the adverse conditions. Super pleased! Buds can blast for several reasons and if you don't mind, I will link a video where I go through a check list I have for myself to analyze / seperate out the variables, kzbin.info/www/bejne/oWinaH55p7V2f9U if you have not seen it, the checklist may help in your recent case and future situations... hope that won't be necessary in the future, but just in case. If the video prompts more questions, please do not be put off asking 🤗 thank you so so much for being here, and for joining in on the laughs! I am so so grateful to you for your support, Robi ❤️🌸

Andrea, hi 😍💐 this orchid bloomed every year for me, first with green female blooms and then male blooms. It is a giant when it grows it's spikes! Just insane. I have videos of the Jack of Diamonds and Black Pearl, in bloom on the channel. If you like, I will link them, but I don't want to bother you with all the links, so, let me know if you want a link to the videos 👍🏼 Yikes!! That cold already 😣 stay warm, stay safe, don't slip and careful with the cold air and your eye. Thank you so much for watching, lovely lady ❤️🌸

Hi Nina, Thanks for sharing. I have the same problem with two new growth. They started fine but the roots stopped growing at 3-4 cm before going in the leca. The new bulb also stopped increasing in size. I don't have any spikes. Have not done in dormancy yet. Bye Daniel Jheelan from France

HI Daniel 🤩💐 it is good to see you again! Well, you are not alone, even though I would have preferred to have heard the opposite from you 👍🏼 it would appear that Jack of Diamonds does NOT take kindly to being chopped up and is in the process of having a sulk! Well, sulk away, but make sure that 'you' wake up and leave the attitude behind and do like Fredclarkeara does. That orchid was divided into 3 pieces, and what was left was 30% of the original mass... well... it has grown a growth of insane proportions 😅 incredible! So, Jack better get his act together, and just go to sleep! See you in 2023 😆 thank you so much for watching, Daniel! Hope you are doing well 🙏🏼🌸
