There are plenty of different signs that your dog is happy and they also differ from dog to dog but here is just 3.
Licks You- This is a dogs form of grooming and they are communicating that they love you and want to make you happy. They also might be trying that tasty snack you just had.
Eye Contact/Watching- If your little fur ball is making eye contact with you it is because they want to know more about you. This is how they take in information about who you are and what makes you happy.
Belly Rubs- If your pup is letting you give them a belly rub it’s because they are happy and trust you. This is a vulnerable position for a dog so if they aren’t happy with you then they probably won’t let you give them a belly rub.

A lot of the "love" we feel from animals is purely their want for food and us as the supplier of said food. Love my dog regardless of that fact.

Another way that my old beagle would tell you that she loves you, is your sitting down, if you're upset, mad, or tired. She would come up to you, and sit on her hind legs, and she would put her paw on your hand or your arm. It's her way of saying, "I'm here, I love you, don't feel bad.😢😢😢😢 But she's no longer with us, she died in Hurricane Katrina, me, my brother and parents lived in Bay St Louis, Mississippi at the time. Gentle reminder: Even though I know you treat your dogs like the precious beings that they are, and you won’t do anything to hurt them, sometimes #1 is also their gentle way of saying: “I don’t like what you are doing to me, please, stop”. If it’s playful then you don’t have to worry about a thing. But if you are (let’s say) touching and inspecting their paws, and they are incessantly licking your hand while you are doing so, they are trying to communicate that they wish for you to stop (kinda like “get this meaty paw of yours away! Foo, foo!”) Also, give your fur babies a hug from me 🤍

It’s helpful to be aware of them and not confuse them with regular kisses in order to better understand your pup's likes, dislikes, and any changes in their behavior. For instance, sudden “kicking kisses” where they previously didn’t show aversion may indicate that there is something in that zone bothering them like a sore spot, something stuck there, or they simply need some space. As always, taking care of the physical and emotional needs of your pup is crucial, so being aware of the difference between regular kisses and “kicking kisses” may help to notice subtle changes in their behavior ;)
