I love that table top. Did you make it? If so, did you make a video on it? I'd love to recreate such a thing.

Thank you! Are the sheets cut with scissors sharp on the edges? Do you need to somehow “sand” them or are they safe?
@UpcycleDesignLab12 күн бұрын
Hi the edges can still be sharp enough to give a paper cut so you want to handle them carefully.

Thanks for doing the testing for us. I think that I might put out the word to younger family members. They tend to try newer drinks out there. Ask them to let me know if they find brands with shrink wrap labels. Thanks again.👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Research says that the cans are coated with a water-based polymer. Otherwise, everything would have a metallic taste. I’m guessing the steam removes it. I can’t imagine that metal polish wouldn’t remove the paint and polish the aluminum to a bright shine at the same time. I’ve never tried it on aluminum cans but it works amazingly on aluminum bakeware. Would it remove the polymer? Probably not. So I’d steam first, then polish away. I would think it would restore a mirror finish if cleaning it another way had scratched the surface. Your crafts are lovely. Enjoyed seeing your work.

I would assume you would want a separate pressure cooker to do this other than the one you would use for food?

It's up to you if you don't feel comfortable mixing the two. 🙂

Would White Spirit work better than fingernail polish remover?

Sorry I am not familiar with white spirit so I can't give you an answer.

I have used the Instant pot and it works ! I don't remember what and how long. But I seem to remember finding instructions online. This was like 2016 or so I'm sure it's out there in the interwebs. I was trying to remove the paint from Altoids tins, I was NOT successful with the Altoids tin. 😬🤷

What would chemicals like E-Z Off Oven Cleaner do to it? You could do it outside in your yard to avoid fuming up your home.

I don't know but it's an interesting question? I may have to give it a try. Thanks for the idea. 🙂

@@UpcycleDesignLab I'm sure you have to watch out for the fumes! And for the love of God, wear rubber gloves, too!!! I'd hate to cost the crafting world one of its brightest stars.

Have you tried steaming the cans with a steamer or steam iron?
@UpcycleDesignLab5 ай бұрын
I haven't but I don't think that would work. I don't really understand why the pressure cooker works but I think it requires more than just heat to break down the varnish sealer on the outside of the can.
@AndyLegg-b5y19 күн бұрын
if you bake the cans in your oven for about 30 minutes the ink will come off with nail varnish remover with very little effort

The Voodoo Ranger can art looks too good to scrub off. I staple metal panels with cool images onto small wood boxes and stack them to make shelving in my bathroom. I have cubbyholes sized for nail polish to hair spray cans, so there's a special place for everything. The Arizona Green Tea art looks especially lovely.

I like the Arizona tee cans as well they are pretty but I don't drink much tea. The Voodoo Ranger is one of my husband's favorites so there are plenty of can where that one came from. 🤣🤣 Thanks for watching.

I think alcohol would work better maybe the 99% if the 50% doesn't work. Or vinegar, mineral spirits, or a Borax solution. With steam, try turning the flat ones upside down and don't overlap. I think most of the printing is something akin to dye sublimation. I know it fades in sunlight over time, or maybe it's the weather that wears it off.

The steamer method looks easier than the Brillo one but I use my Instant Pot for food. I don’t like the idea of getting some ink in my I.P. ☹️
@andrea.rivers7 ай бұрын
You still have to put some effort into removing the ink so nothing is coming off in the IP. I've used my Instant Pot with zero issue.
@UpcycleDesignLab7 ай бұрын
I agree that there is no ink transfer to the pressure cooker. But of course it is a personal choice. 🙂
