So where I live it's 10 cents per can return, but you pay that 10 cents at the point of purchase they call it a "bottle deposit" and you get that "deposit" back if you return the cans or bottles to the depot. I don't think it's tied to the literal weight value of the recyclable product, it's just a forced incentive to get people to stop throwing them in the trash, or melting them into bars... The price of metal is constantly going up and down so it's hard to plan around stuff like that. Making the big bars like he is doing here you can sell them as blanks to sculptures, or different manufacturing facility's and get more then scrap for them. If I understand this correctly that CAD stands for Canadian It does not seem profitable at all to melt them down yourself. Considering at least where I am it is .10 cents per can returned to a bottle depot which would net $25.00 CAD. But then we would not be getting these types of videos :)

10:38 Worked in a foundry once when I was 17. Boss brought out a steel “pig” and told me to pour my first bucket of aluminum into that because the owner wanted to cut down on imperfections in the vehicle parts we were casting. No one knew to make sure to put that near the crucible and when I began pouring my metal into that damn thing the aluminum started bubbling up around the edges of the pig. Luckily I sensed something was wrong when the aluminum bubbles started coalescing into one big bubble. I told my coworkers to get back and a second later POP! all that metal went about 20 feet up and came back down on the crucible operator’s back. Sadly he was the only one not wearing any protective gear. I was told later that at the hospital, it took a very long time to pick all that aluminum out of his back…..some dangerous stuff if not done correctly

You should try using salt flux for separating the aluminum and dross. The slag you keep remelting is impurities stuck to the aluminum. Salt flux will separate it when mixed and stirred into the molten metal and then dross will be on the top of the pot(usually shiny black with very little pearls of aluminum beads). Cans are very dirty as far as what clean aluminum is considered.

I assume the extreme heat cracks it up. You can't really sand stuff like that as easily as you can sand metal, as they're a lot more brittle in comparison. And even if you could, the residue slag etc would deposit and it would become unpolished when you actually use it

@michaelburgess60045 ай бұрын
@@omegadragons321 Yes. The item he is dropping the cans into to melt is called a crucible, which is inside of a forge. The one he uses is specifically called a devil forge. You then pour the molten metal from the crucible into a mold, which also has to be heated. If there is any moisture on the mold at all, it could explode when it comes into contact with the metal. A steam explosion with molten metal is the makings for a bad day. Btw, devil forges run on propane gas just like gas grills. The smallest devil forge set is as little as $350 and has all of the necessary accessories to start smelting including hoses, tongues, a 4kg crucible, gloves, etc. You'll still have to buy molds separately though. The forge gets hot enough to melt steel and graphite molds can handle those temperatures. The devil forge kit and a cheap set of graphite molds.
