Did these questions change your perspective?

They changed it, but in a fairly chilling way. I realized that I don't know any of the answers. And the more I think about even the "easy" first one, all the stuff I've carried forward from when I was a teenager (ie. the Lamborghini from Cannonball Run, or an extravagant Miami Vice-like lifestyle) would just alienate all the people I care about in the real world. Can't say I'm enjoying the sudden wakeup call, but I'm thankful for getting it now instead of later.

Very thought provoking. My husband and I talked through these questions and made notes on what is most important to us and basically a “bucket list”. Thank you

I’ve heard of Kinder and as a result have been working on #3. It consists of making several apologies to friends from way back!! #1 & 2 I wouldn’t change anything. I’ve led a very fulfilling and adventurous life

It is actually very easy for me to answer. #3. See all my family one more time... My wife, my kids... Family. #2. Pay all my debt no matter what. Pay everything off before I am gone. #1. Help my kids. So one day they can help their kids.

Kevin, thanks for presenting these questions that help focus us on the idea that money is a tool for doing the things you want to do with this short time we're here. I've thought about questions like this, but never asked my spouse the same, so we'll be doing that this weekend. Thanks for helping us

1) Retire now and do all the things my wife and plan to do in 4 yrs when we are planning to retire: healthier living, traveling, volunteering, and being more generous. 2) Same as one, but with some limitations to ensure my wife has plenty to continue. 3) I have no regrets on what I haven't experienced, yes there are things I haven't done, but those are the dreams for the future.

1) I would stop working two jobs trying to catch up on the retirement savings I didn’t do for the last 30 years while still also trying to cover the bills 2) no, I would stop doing my current profession and start doing things I enjoy more (current hobbies) and finding a way to make money from it to help anonymously serve those in need in my community 3) I’ve heard /read these questions before - Forbes magazine wrote about how Steve Jobs would ask himself this question when brushing his teeth. So I started doing the same. The answer is still no, but I feel stuck by my bills and lack of financial planning

Sorry to hear you started so late too. There are way more of us with little to no planning for retirement ( not for lack of desire, for sure!) It was always I’ll do it tomorrow’s, or next month, or after I pay off xyz bill ,or …fill in the blank… as there was always a justification. It’s people like Kevin Lum, CFP who are helping teach how to fix that. I’ve watched so many of his and videos similar to his that I finally listed 67yo me as a top bill. One of the videos talked about how to calculate how much you need to retire by dividing the desired annual income by 0.04 and that’s the amount needed to retire. I don’t think I’ll save up that amount due by 67, but at least I finally started. But Kevin recently showed how things would still be ok even if you only had $50,000 saved. That was a refreshing video. Congrats on your starting too! (Edited for spelling, grammar, clarity)

@@loranutritionist Thats right. Thank you for sharing the tip of dividing the desired annual income by 0.04. I’m interested to do that math. Good luck to you! I have faith that we can do it!

I've recently realized that I'm content with my life. It's a strange feeling. My biggest concern is about the 24 hour scenario simply because the country where I live does not provide me with the legal means to create a trust.

it is not going to be immediately "easy" thing, but release myself or free myself from thinking what I am not getting but within what I have; I want to say, "thank you", and use time money space, and enjoy,.

This topic is what we would discuss in Death Cafe. Nobody likes to talk about it. But once you do and flip the script on it you will live each day better!

I’m 50 no kid. If I have to die within 10 years without pain, I’ll be very happy. The most scary thing for me is old poor sick and pain, not die. Die without pain would be wonderful. People finally die anyway , so why should one scare of death. Even though I die tomorrow, I will not regret because I fullfill my life everyday. Many good things are already done and few bad things used to be done. Combined with the unlimited amount of money in the 1 st condition, I will spend those money to help others who need help, but I will not use those money to change my life because my life is good enough nowadays.

What I would do in the first 2 situations is pretty much the same, but impossible because of Covid and other airborne illnesses. My health status means catching any one of them would quickly put me in the 3rd situation. Pity. -Elizabeth
