Loved this! Last week I dressed up more than my “usual” to go grocery shopping. At the checkout the man in front of me ( he was in his 40s) turned around to tell me how nice I looked! I’m 74, so that compliment made my day…so yes, trying to step out of your normal is definitely with it!

Erin, you have no idea hiw much you touched me this morning. Last night after a family member as much as laughed at the way I dressed, I was feeling especially bad. But this morning here is your video. I have to tell you I was in tears. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. You have no idea how much you touched me. I will dress as I like and who cares what those in sweatpants think.

Hi I once was doing a very very stylish lady s hair . She was speaking to my boss about an upcoming wedding my boss was goin to . My boss was saying she felt her outfit was too dressy..... The lady said remember one thing.... Never ever feel over dressed, just feel sorry for those who are underdressed. I've always lived my life with this in my head . Xxx 💕😘

What brought pleasure in my clothes back to me was wearing dresses. The way they swish around my legs felt feminine and wonderful. A dress takes less effort, and looks better. Trying to pair up all those separate pieces is tiring. My best look has never been pants. Maxi dresses are it for me, as I’ve never had great legs. I’m 74 and I’ve really enjoying building my wardrobe with them over the past few years. I took advantage of their popularity because I knew the popular hem length would change. I will not be changing the lengths of my dresses. Tea length and ankle length have always been a favorite and nowadays one can wear whatever length one wishes. I’m fortunate to follow the sun and avoid winter so I can wear prints and colors that make me happy. Yes, I’m the dressiest (fully accessorized) person at the doctors office, the dentist office and even at Physical Therapist. 💖 I don’t care one whit! When I was much younger, and had young children, people would ask me if I worked (outside the home) just because of the way I dressed. If I felt good when I left the house it helped my entire day! And still does. I paste a smile on my face even when I’m not feeling particularly good. I may hurt in places, and some body parts don’t work as well as they used to, but I can still feel as good as possible about myself. Keep up the good work!! Push women to enjoy being women, and wear fun clothes! Right now I’m also wearing some hefty knee braces, but under my dresses they are not as noticeable. I don’t mind if people see them, but they just aren’t esthetically pleasing. 😁 The canes that are necessary are bright and colorful too. They might as well be fun to look at if nothing else!

Erin.... you are right about your daughter remembering the opera. 50 years later I STILL remember going to the opera in Vienna with my parents when we lived in Europe. The glitter, the lights, the music, the dresses of the beautiful women were memorable! Good for you! Also, we do need to get past the idea that we are not worthy. We may need to save the money for the suite, but will we have the time of our life and feel special and inspired? YES! We need to treat ourselves more. We need to treat ourselves better! We need to plan for our OWN special events so that we have memories to warm us and that sprinkle that magic into our everyday lives. Proud of you! I know that you have just given hundreds of women permission to elevate their own vision of themselves: priceless!

This video was a total stroke of genius!! I generally dress with a sense of style most days but I have been longing for something that says "make some magic." By pure chance, I had ordered a top that has a sort of Victorian meets Captain Jack Sparrow look to it. And I have a Victorian inspired skirt with a bustle I bought 11 years go at a steam punk festival. I only wore it that one time. So just now, I went upstairs and paired the two and viola, magic! I'm going to wear that outfit when it gets warmer out while strolling in a public garden doing photography! Thank you so much, Erin, for reminding us all that we can be ourselves and have fun. That is so funny about your regrets about your wedding dress. When I got married the second time not only did we have two weddings (alone with the kids in Vegas 11-11-11 and then a year later we had a real wedding with my husband's family in Hawaii on his parent's 50th anniversary), but between them I wore a total of 4 dresses, and a special trousseau to wear for everything all weekend!! All but one vintage dress were actually pretty reasonable, so I didn't go completely nuts, but it was a lot of fun to spoil myself (and I spoiled him and others too) and I'm so glad I handled it that way because of course, life got real again all too soon.

This is why I love cruising. I get to dress up every night if I want to. My friend once told me when I was in my forties to wear the fancy dresses now because after fifty you won’t look as good. I kind of agree with this but you can still look great if you keep at it. Love this video. You are definitely talking to those that love clothes.
@BusbeeStyle2 жыл бұрын
Don't stop dressing up as you get older...it is even more important to dress up and feel special as we age! Nobody wants to feel invisible just because they turn 50! Luckily age perceptions are starting to change! Cruising is great for that very reason...lots of opportunities to dress up! xo
@kellycook43472 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I'm almost 50. I totally feel that. I always remember that I'll never be as "young" as I am right now. So, I don't complain. Without money, it's harder to age and not look silly dressed up. Luckily, I have personality and look better in a tshirt an jeans.

Thank you for that magical video. I smile at every picture of you in those beautiful dresses and loved hearing their story. Your video came at such an important time for me. Money was tight for decades in my own marriage. I can give it away to my children and grandchildren but feel guilty spending money on myself. I was married at 20 and had a modest wedding that my parents could barely afford. This summer is our 50th anniversary and I was very hesitant to host a celebration. We've traveled to 39 countries since retiring and I call it "education" to justify the expense. Thanks to you I realize I want and am worthy to celebrate with a renewal ceremony, a dinner reception at a country club and a fabulous dress. I'll send you pictures! Gracias!

I usually never wear dresses because I’m not comfortable with it. It’s due to my trauma. I don’t like other people comment my looks but I still want to wear beautiful clothes. So last summer I bought couple of summer dresses thanks to you Erin! Since then I didn’t really thought about it but those dresses actually made me feel free. I walked on the beach freely and it was not dangerous in any way. No one used the clothes I had on me to put me down or use me in very inappropriate way cause that happen a lot when I was teenager. My own father told me to wear almost no clothes and no underwear and show as much as possible. It’s so sick! It’s difficult to feel beautiful cause for me it means dealing with disgusting comments and I don’t want that at all. I want to look beautiful, feel worthy and strong and be able to be myself. I will not give up! I look forward to seeing more of those types of videos from your amazing channel! 😍🌹

Erin, this was the kick in the pants that I needed to get out of my funk. I literally just went up to my husband a few days ago asking, “when did I let this happen to me?” Another day of sweat pants and greasy mom bun. That was never me. And it has spilled out into other areas of my day. I now realize I have let the sparkle die in my life. No more! It’s time to reclaim our power. Style is so much more than just clothes. It’s the way we feel about ourselves and how we show up to the rest of the world. Thank you for continually inspiring us to care for ourselves.

This video brought tears to my eyes. I used to turn heads, but now, in my forties and after gaining 50 lbs due to prolonged illness, I've lost confidence and have gotten into the habit of wearing sack-like clothes to hide behind. I recently started sewing and crocheting my own clothes and accessories, like I did when I was younger, thinner and prettier, but have been insecure about wearing them, because my creations are romantic and whimsical, and would draw attention. I loved most when you said, "It helped me to step into that person that I want to be." I feel more empowered to reveal my personal style and inner beauty.

My little guy was wearing a suit because we just filmed an origami audition, my husband was also in a suit as he met us from work, my daughter needed to change anyways, so we picked a dress, and I also picked something nice as I was not going to wear sweats to a restaurant. We got so many compliments on how nice the family looked; it felt so good! (On a side note, I believe going to an Indian wedding will very much fulfill your magical desires. And if you aren't invited to any, just hop on over and we can have fun in my closet and then take pictures at the Detroit Insitute of Arts for no reason!).

Hi Erin When I lived in California I took a line Dance class where I met this beautiful lady in her late 70's-when she walked through the door every lady looked at her with admiration she was Italian she always had her hair colored & wore make up & nails done. she had a limited wardrobe From white house black market she often wore cubic z jewelry. Her appearance matched who she was on the inside -a person of confidence & integrity some one I looked up to- it doesn't take a whole lot to represent yourself in this manner when you care about yourself & appearance she is one of those unforgettable women -ditto to you as well Erin as you help to inspire women :) Of con & integrity when people present themselves like this they become unforgettable

OMG! I just got married and feel like I had to order my dress quickly (and ONLINE) and don't think it photographed well. I totally have had that exact convo in my head!!! Like, I BLEW my moment. You are right, that is so silly! I am going to Venice for my husband's art opening in April and I was going to re-up my Rent the Runway account to get myself in the mood!!! But I was going to wait until right before we left. But why wait? Sequins, here I come! And the worthiness thing is totally tied- we are staying at a 5-star hotel and I am worth it!! I "belong" there.

Congratulations on your recent wedding! Don't worry...you didn't blow your moment. You just need to create new moments! Sometimes the dress inspires that moment! xo

Inspiring! I've struggled with this so much with 40 winters here in Crested Butte. I think I will begin with wearing some awesome perfume while I am walking my dogs in a blizzard...it would help!

Thank you, Erin! I appreciate this video. It’s as if you read my mind. Lately I’ve been thinking how I’ve deprived myself for so many years of wearing beautiful outfits because I didn’t have anywhere “special” to wear these types of clothes. NO MORE! I will wear these clothes just because it makes me feel good. No special occasion needed. I will wear these outfits because they make me happy. I don’t need approval from anyone.

This was such an incredibly powerful message! I love how the tulle ballgowns inspired you to do things that helped you heal from past trauma and spurred you on to create unforgettable memories with your daughter. (Elisabeth will NEVER forget that you sacrificially "destroyed" your own dress so she could experience the joy you had wearing it!) I know that so many women need to hear this - I'm sharing it! Thanks, Erin!

Fantastic! At the start of the year I realized I was turning 50 and a woman with so much to still offer the world! Not a mum crawling around with toddlers anymore so why was I still dressing like I was?! (By the way I loved those years). Out came my healed sandles and boots, jewelry and pretty/classy clothes. I began to dress liked me again.... the me before all the 'labels' The comments I've had are eye opening and inspiring. Go Erin.... spread the word to all the girls out there!

This video is so timely for me! Lol! I am this person who says I love this but I don’t go anywhere to wear it so I don’t purchase it. I’m also getting ready for my son’s wedding in May (first one for us). However, I have purchased a few items recently thinking when I purchased them I have no idea where I’m going to wear this but I’m getting it. I also bought this real cute (kind of sexy) dress & wore it on Christmas Eve because I wanted to get dressed up on Christmas Eve & we don’t anymore. I was the only one dressed up that much but it was fine! Now to the wedding. I went to 7 different bridal shops & tried on at LEAST 50 dresses. Probably closer to 70. I finally bought a dress based on everyone else’s idea/opinion of what I should look like & wear. I tried to convince myself I loved it. But I couldn’t get excited about shoes, hair or any accessories or just wearing the dress. Also after I purchased the dress the bride & groom changed their color scheme which made the wedding more formal. Needless to say I bought a new dress (with encouragement from my husband) & I LOVE the new dress! My son did give me some crap about it. He wanted to make sure I was getting it altered because he thought it was too low in the front! Oh my gosh! I’m wearing the dress & yes it will be altered. The one I tried on was 2 or 3 sizes bigger than me. And the bride’s Mom’s dress is an off the shoulder fitted dress that is low cut in the front! Mine has an a line skirt! Ugh. I’m not sure why I have so many rules & I wonder if the bride’s Mom had that many rules?! Regardless, I love my new dress & like you said the bride is who everyone is going to be paying attention to anyways!! Definitely not the groom’s Mom! 😆 Great video! You and your daughter looked stunning & I’m sure that is going to be something she never forgets!!

I'm sure you will look stunning in your dress! Once the wedding is over...visualize another outfit that makes you feel joy (may not be a gown) and go get it! Do it just for YOU! Congratulations and have an amazing night celebrating your son! xo

This is so inspiring! I have found giving up on pants has allowed me to have more fun with Fashiin. I really do love dresses but stop wearing them because I thought they would make me look frumpy. I decided to go back to dresses. And now I feel so fabulous all the time. And it’s easy! Thanks for a great video. I’ve been buying my dress from anthropology and having so much fun.As a plus size women I try to be as small as possible in spaces. So I wore a lot of black. I’ve always wanted to wear Anthropologie dresses. I had started buying them once they extended their sizes. But never felt brave enough to wear them outside. Recently I started to wear them to work one every day with either a blazer or a duster. I’ve gotten so many compliments. I feel like a different person.I look forward to getting up and getting dressed. I am no longer hating my body, but loving looking Uber feminine. For years I tried to stuff myself in pants and would wait eagerly for spring and summer to wear my dresses. It was in January when I decided that I’d did not want to wait to wear what I love. I had just bought another pair of jeans and tee that I was not going to wear. There was no joy. I have not worn them and dived into my dress obsession. I bought some knee boots and some fleece tights. I have a super warm coat it comes down to my ankle. I am so glad I decided to give into my desire to be more feminine even at 55!

I love this! I bought a sequined maxi skirt a few years ago and have never worn it. Bought it just because it was pretty. I remember the cashier asking me in a demeaning tone, “where are you going to wear that?” I said, “wherever I want!” but I still haven’t worn it. Grief, menopause and a lonely relationship has caused me to gain weight and I don’t really have anyone to go out with. I’m such an introvert. Also my ideal outfit is a killer black suit for work. I’m having a hard time finding one in my size (16-18). Thanks for encouraging us to show up for ourselves!
@BusbeeStyle2 жыл бұрын
A killer black suit can take you anywhere! I encourage you to look for one that makes you feel powerful! I think you will feel that spark that I talk about in this video. The beauty of a suit is that you can always break up the two pieces and find ways to wear them separately so it will go to good use! xo

We used to go to the policeman’s ball every year. You had to find a nice dress or gown as some wore. And we all went out to dinner. Then danced all night until it had to end. I always loved the ball. That was the one time a year I went all over looking for the dress. I would find it. Dress all up. My husband wore a tuxedo. Most of the guys who were on the board of the ball wore tuxedos. We all looked great. And we had so much fun. By the time my husband retired they weren’t doing the ball anymore. That broke my heart. We had so much fun. We had a lot of fun times with having parties at the lodge hall. In fact about 10 years ago. My daughter and her husband got married and had the reception there. I wasn’t feeling my best, but I little rum in my drink. I was up dancing a lot but boy was I tired when it was time to go home. My husband was putting everything in the car and I sat there until we were ready to go home. I had a major surgery about 6-7 weeks before the wedding. So I was glad when I got to go home and go to bed. I didn’t even table hop to see everyone, like I usually do. I was too tired.
@BusbeeStyle2 жыл бұрын
Im sorry that your health prevented you from celebrating fully with your daughter, but it’s wonderful that you were there for her so soon after surgery! I challenge you to find a special outfit and wear it…even though there isn’t a scheduled ball! You can do it! xo

Sometimes we already have beautiful gowns that we don't dare to wear. But you know after 40 and much more after 50 we have nothing to lose anymore. Who cares if we don't look like models we should and we must be confident because we have lived our lives till now fighting to be great at everything and we survived. After 45 I gave permission to myself to be whatever I want. I am now 58 and I don't give a damn shit what others think of me and guess what, people compliment me quite often.
