Three great hacks there, thanks Emily. The other great laundry hack is to realize your clothes don’t usually need to be washed every time you wear them. Even if you’re hot and sweaty, hanging your shirt on the lifelines to air for half an hour before putting it away will probably let you wear it three or four times without washing it. Of course this requires you to wear effective deodorants. And to exercise the sniff test honestly and judiciously for each other.

We have had good luck over the years using only white towels and using regular bleach when washing them. A little chlorine is left on the towel and discourages mildew longer than washing without bleach. Love the hamper/bag.

I had a camper colleague who gave me microfiber towels as going away gift when I left my previous job to go live aboard 6 years ago. I did bring some fluffy ones from my flat, but only the micro fiber one's are left and are good as new. Heck #1 confirmed!

I like the laundry bag and the ice making tubes. My favourite appliance (one of) is a nutri bullet, with which I make crushed ice drinks. Soon ice making will become an issue, so that is a good start.

Good ideas. I found that thin towels and thick wash clothes are the way to go the wash clothes hold a lot of water and soap while the water is off and can be wrung out dry quicker than towels

For laundry bags we use pilots flight bags. They fold to nothing and are pretty durable !

I've been using a military duffle bag to transport my laundry for years now. It works great but it's not waterproof but i've never had that be an issue...yet lol. For ice we just have a countertop ice maker

I bought a similar laundry bag that stands up and folds down to nothing for a long camping trip. Looks like similar material, but had rings at the top instead of backpack straps. It was $14 on amazon and i love it for the boat

Been living off a bicycle for a little bit now. Since i can only own that which i carry and move, yes i am spartan. However, what i do carry is the best i can find. There is no room for backup, and things will fail and break in a nomadic/constantly moving environments. Know your/you're love.

Welcome back! We don't see you so much these days.... Thanks for the ideas on towels. No sure about microfibre, I really don't like the feel of them but I don't want to have to have a lot of towels on board either but new things to try. Musical instruments: (not on topic) my wife and I just bought a "Baby Taylor" which has very quickly become my favourite acoustic guitar. It really puts out a lot of sound, it is almost smaller than my headless electric so it fits in the same place we have the Uke. and in my case, it adds spice when playing with others who almost always have a normal size guitar. Oh, and easier to play as well. Note that we did try other half size guitars including a Martin and the Taylor was by far the nicest sound. Living in the PNW of Canada, ice has not yet been an issue :)

For water-saving showers, get a 1 litre (quart?) pump-up spray bottle. Fill with warm or cold water, and you can have a full shower, including hair-wash on a minimal amount of water. Emily might need another half-litre to rinse that magnificent mane.

Thanks for your great channel. These tips are great, bought the basket, just did a pile of laundry yesterday and have been using the large Walmart green bags found in Mexico. Added the others to my Amazon list. FYI, can't wait to install the A/C I picked up from you guys! FYI. I market your channel all the time, I'm amazed at how many in the sailing community have not heard of your channel. I'm usually sending them to Clark's battery tracker as the introduction. Take care and sate safe. Ken, S/V Azul

Through the miracle of Amazon logistics, the above towel that I ordered yesterday just arrived. I like the detachable loop is provided for hanging the towel for drying, thus the reducing the likelihood of your wet towel falling to the floor in a wet heap.

You and I have similar skin from watching so many of your wonderful KZbins, how do you keep it from being sunburnt with all the time you spend on the seas?
@Clarks-Adventure
@Clarks-Adventure Жыл бұрын
Speaking for Emily she got burned at first when she sailed to the tropics and had to be really careful. But her Norwegian heritage skin eventually learned to tan. Now a couple of days in the sun and her skin darkens and her hair lightens. I had much the same thing happen 30 years ago when I moved south. Repeated exposure to strong sun on a daily basis and things in your skin change. We both can tan up within days now. -C

On towels, I was wondering if those little towels like the Olympic swimmers and divers use would be useful? Kind of like a synthetic shammy cloth. Late night commercials would market them as "sham-wow's".

It's a "tervis tumbler". Just follow any of the links in the description and search on that. They are great cups. Last a lifetime. And anything you buy after following any of our links gives us a kickback. (So if you ever buy a car on Amazon....)

A question. Living in an RV we have some of the same space issues you and Clark have. Are there different types of microfiber? I have some microfiber towels and they don't absorb for squat. Am I missing something here? I really like that laundry bag. Keep the good stuff coming guys.
@Clarks-Adventure
@Clarks-Adventure Жыл бұрын
I guess there could be. You might want to try one of what Emily found. They absorb fine in my opinion. Much better than the Turkish towels.

I live in the Netherlands in a motorboat on salt water. The humidity outside is now 97%, inside it is 43%, I have no molt or so. I use normal towels. If I shower befor going to bed the towel is dry the next morning. When I lived on my sail boat I had the same problem as you. The boats are next to each other. So I think it depends on the climate and boat if you can not use towels.
