We have a lot of Mockingbirds in central Okla year round. One spring, we had a nest of them in our neighbor's backyard. We couldn't go into our backyard without the Mockingbird immediately appearing and following us around. We named him Sentinel. It was pretty funny! Thanks for the tip about the suet recipe! We have Carolina Wrens also, so that sounds like a recipe birds here will love. We named our backyard 'Birdzhaven'! Lol

I like the mockingbirds, they’re entertaining to watch. I’ve never seen them chase the other birds away from the feeders, only other mockingbirds.

They are great birds. I'm glad your birds play nice with the other birds.

Well, I stand corrected! I just saw them scare birds away from the feeder today 🤣 I still like them though lol

Birds hate to find a new roosting spot after sunset so if you scare them off at that time they will choose another spot to roost going forward. Popular technique to keep them from roosting on window ledges. Throw ping ping balls (won't hurt them) after dark so they have to leave in the dark to find a new spot.

Thank you! Even though I removed the suet from my feeder area , unfortunately the mockingbird is still chasing birds away. Just not as aggressively. Until today, with snow on the ground and bitter cold. Since I don't want to move the suet anyplace where my dog may get a piece, I like the idea of a peanut butter concoction. I just have to figure out how to keep the squirrels away from it.

High stress like colder temps will often lead birds to defend food sources more vigorously.

this video showed up just in time! i absolutely love the mocking bird (i may be the minority) but since we have been having bad weather (very cold) they have become very aggressive at my feeding station and are literally chasing every bird away. They started chasing the doves feeding off the ground feeders. I don't want to exclude them but I had to change all the food to safflower for the last week and move my other feeders throughout the yard.

Hi Mark backyard birds I had a suet feeder outside for a while but no mockingbirds are coming to it
@MarksBackyardBirds11 күн бұрын
Do you have mockingbirds in your yard already? They don't generally come to feeders until the stress levels get high. Even then, they prefer a peanut butter mixture like the one in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j5jZpqurnZulpMk

Hi mark backyard birds how can you tell if a flight mockingbird is female or male
@MarksBackyardBirds5 күн бұрын
You cannot. They are not sexually dimorphic.

Hi Mark backyard birds how do I get a mockingbird to make a nest in my backyard
@MarksBackyardBirds14 күн бұрын
Landscaping with berry producing shrubs will help attract them to your yard and perhaps they will find a nesting sight they like.

Starlings are my problem. Not eating the food but splashing my bird bath dry.
@MarksBackyardBirds15 күн бұрын
That they will do. And the bird bath is filthy after they leave.
