Something that I've noticed about electronic technicians is that they have varying skill levels. I've seen technicians that follow step by step troubleshooting protocols straight out of a guide book to those that have a full mastery and understanding of electrical theory comparable to someone with an advanced degree in electrical engineering. What makes a good electronic technician ? It depends on talent, skill, training, experience and the level of education they possess. Of course, this applies to any field.

I have been retired after 20 years as an electronics tech. It was the the best time of my life. I was mostly self taught as the community colleges were so far behind the curve in electronics when I started. They mostly wanted to teach vacuum tubes but that was old tech that was fading away and I wanted to learn semiconductors. I could have taught a good course in electronics and troubleshooting at the time I retired that would have been a real benefit to many. I bought every book that I thought would be helpful and they helped but the books in the college book store were very lacking. I learned everything that I could from the senior techs I worked with and some of the most electronically knowledgeable of them weren't as good at trouble shooting as I became. The technology is always changing and it's tough to keep up with the advancements too. I don't know how I would proceed if I had to start over from scratch. I miss working in electronics but I have to be content with the career that I had. Thanks for the videos that you have posted.

I've only just joined the electronics tech world at 25 and am felling slightly dejected because I have been putting in allot of study and effort to understand even the basics like, analog circuits, studying a course right now and am struggling mostly when it comes to a write up during fault finding exams. Are there any tips for a person starting out in electronics that some of you pro's may have wished you knew sooner? I'm simply hungry to learn and not fail again during exams, because it seams that no matter how much study I put in, it's not enough for my instructors.

Great video, thanks for sharing! :-) Some say "follow the money" but as a technician, could you not say "follow the power"? What I mean is go from power in and further. Or follow audio in or whatever goes in and end in out. Unless of cause it's obvious that the out is damaged.
@electronictech7854 жыл бұрын
You are correct. If you are troubleshooting, its always best to see if you are getting an input and if you are, then check to see if you are getting an output. That applies to circuits, ICs, and components.
