Great video…I just watched a video from someone else that said you should not grow bonsai indoors. I have a dwarf gardenia that I got 3 months ago and it’s growing beautifully indoors. New leaves and branches growing…no dead leaves…flowered once so far. I did everything you mentioned as far a caring for my bonsai. Hopefully it will continue to do well. I will get a grow light for the upcoming winter months. Thank you for always posting helpful videos.

Hi Jerome …I just purchased a bag of bonsai supply bonsai soil and this is how I found your KZbin videos. I live in Kentucky and have freezing outdoor temps, therefore, have kept my ginseng ficus and Fukien tea bonsais indoors. I’m new to having bonsai as houseplants and had trouble with a water schedule specially during the winter. I water my bonsais once a week because the soil stays too wet in the bottom half and dryer in the upper half (I use a water meter to check the soil moisture) because when I water more than once a week my ficus started to loose a lot of leaves each day, 2-3 healthy green leaves. This is also why I decided to repot the ficus using the new bonsai soil hoping to fix the problem. The other plant has no issues. I also mist them daily - is that good for the plant. I really appreciate your advice . Thank you 😊

Thank you for the video! I am in Canada so it's very hard to have outdoor bonsai. It has been very hard to get any information on indoor bonsai. Can you do more videos on indoor bonsai and demonstrations on how to repot, prune, wire them? Any information pertaining to indoor bonsai would be so so so helpful! Also is it possible to keep outdoor bonsai inside if you move them to a cold area for the winter?

@@prajal161 I have 130+ trees, japanese maple are vigorous and will grow indoors as long as you give them a time to be dormant. I put mine in my unheated garage to winter them, covered with a cold frame. I have a tiny greenhouse that I can put them in outside. You will need a really sunny window or grow lights to have trees inside.

Another important area for ficus is they like humidity there is 2 options you can use to increase humidity like stated in the video use a humidity tray, or option 2 you can use a small mini humidifier place it near to your ficus Bonsai tree to help keep them healthy and happy during the fall and winter months have fun and good luck with your Bonsai tree's.

Hi Jerome! I live in sunny Florida , however, my apartment gets very little sunlight. Perhaps form 1 pm to 4 pm. I am keeping my new schefflera bonsai indoors with some grow light. My question is: is it advisable to put it outside for those 3 or 4 hours? I’m afraid to damage it with those changes. Thanks and I’m very happy to have found your great channel.

I don't know that I agree with repotting indoors in winter in northern climates. They usually keep their houses cool, the air is quite dry (low humidity) and the days are short so the plants don't grow much (unless using a grow light). I would think spring would be the ideal time?
@jim5118
@jim5118 4 жыл бұрын
You are correct, early Spring is indeed the best time to repot or do root pruning. Of course, if you repot an indoor tree, it can pretty much be done anytime, but best not to disturb the root system.
@WeareTheBonsaiSupply
@WeareTheBonsaiSupply 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael, keep in mind if you grow your tree indoors all year, winter most likely is the warmest as you heat your house, and use growlights. If you only overwinter them inside then late spring mid summer is best for tropicals.

@@WeareTheBonsaiSupply I dunno, I lived in Ohio a long time and the house was quite a bit cooler in the winter (thermostat at 68) than in the summer (thermostat at 76). If it was really, really cold out, the thermostat would go down to 64 to save on heating.

Good morning, I have jade indoor and I am wondering why the leaves are falling and it seems the leaf fall are like rotten I am using grow light right for them cause they don’t get enough lights. I appreciate if you can help me to save my jade❤️. Thank you.
@jim5118
@jim5118 4 жыл бұрын
You're soil should never be dry, it should always be moist. Make sure the pot you're using has good size holes in the bottom and your soil promotes drainage so that when you water it, the water should all drain out the bottom leaving a nice moist soil. Never leave water in the tray under that pot as oxygen needs to get in to the root system to avoid root rot.

Hi Zena, It sounds to me that your soil might stay too wet, and your grow light is too far away or not on long enough. To give you an idea, with our bonsai soil outdoors, I water once a week. Indoors I keep the grow light about 6 inches away from my Jades and I keep the light on for 12 hours.

Please let me know what should be the correct square mm of copper wire for shaping bonsai
@jim5118
@jim5118 4 жыл бұрын
That would depend on what size trunks and branches on the tree. For main trunk wires, 4-5 mm works good, or you can double up 2.5 mm. 1.5-2.5 can be used on branches.
@kylepurvis6231
@kylepurvis6231 4 жыл бұрын
This also depends on the type of trees your wiring, most deciduous and tropicals will use aluminum wire . If your wiring pines, and conifers as well as a few other species like boxwood then annealed copper wire is recommended as it has much more holding power to shape and hold branches.

In my experience some species, especialy some succlents, can grow even further from window - up to 50cm from sun exposed window, or at the window on the northern side - and do fine, namely: Schlumbergera, Crassula ovata, Coffea arabica, Sedum nussberianum, Kalanchoe bossfeldiana and Hibiscus rosa sinensis - some rosa sinensis specimen even prefer to be further from window, since sun burns their leaves easily.
