It's so fantastic to see these people recovered living happy adjusted lives. A point of interest to me: some mentioned that the first steak was enough to start feeling better, meaning the bioavailable nutrients in the steak were helping immediately presumably before the ketones kicked in. But ketones might perhaps soothe the addiction-like aspect of the disorder, and give people enough control over their minds to gain perspective.

If you ever see this Try 2 grams of fat for every 1 gram of protein. It’s called 2 to 1. But you might need to put MCT oil on eggs or fish. It’s actually pretty yummy bcz mct has no taste. And the fats will heal your thyroid & MCT makes your brain feel better. You’ll probably need add salt & electrolytes Once you start to think less obsessively your brain will feel some joy

If someone else is in this situation, just start with whichever seems like you could tolerate. Then you can adjust. The most important thing with medical ketogenic diets is extra high fats: butter, heavy cream, olive oil. Eat fatty beef, chicken thighs, bacon, salmon, eggs. The amount of vegetables is the variable between those three variations. Get extra salt. If at all possible, be supervised by a doctor who can watch for electrolyte imbalances and adjust medications.

I totally agree and I've written a novel to be launched at the end of this month, entitled All This May Not Wipe You Out, based on a true story where the main character heals from eating disorders through nutritional therapy recommended and monitored by a very skilled medicina. It was practically a ketogenic regimen. I don't describe the regimen in detail not to have readers trying any do it yourself diet. The book is just a testimony

Ketosis literally endangered my organs to the point that I had to be hospitalized-I feel that this is dangerous information to pass around in the eating disorder communities.

We're so sorry to hear about your experience. If you're comfortable, would you mind sharing more details? One of the things we want to be very responsible about is discussing who may or may not benefit from ketogenic therapies and what precautions need to be taken. Your story may help others learn.

An Anorexia Nervosa client that avoids carbs… well that sounds convenient.
