j0j0barz33 credit where credit is due. I personally don't use scents, I guess it comes from years of fly fishing, where scents are frowned upon and besides I like to fool the fish by sight.

Spinnerbaits don't really need a noise factor. It has blades putting out lots of vibration, and the fish can feel it with there lateral line.

Rick Rabies Time of year-water temp is important for using spinners. Try throwing em along rocky shorelines mid April through May.

A bass "hears" in two ways. One is it's inner ear, the other way is it's lateral line, and it "hears" or picks up the vibration from the rotating blades. Just a lower frequency "sound". Still if it mod works Kewel. But to say that a spinner bait has no sound.. hmmmm...

Obviously I’m late to the party on this but out of curiosity wouldn’t you be able to come to the conclusion that having the fish head the spinner bait with both it’s lateral line and it’s inner ear (from the rattle add on) be more effective?

Happy to see all the negative people in the comments not believing these tips. I do the rattle thing myself and i can say it definitely works, but i've only seen a difference in dirty water. Which make sense... Fish in dirty water would have to use their lateral line and ears more to find food since they can't see super well. Good video, hopefully no one starts doing this.

I paint my Colorado blades Orange. You didnt put a stinger hook on your spinnerbait. I use a white fluke. Dye the last quarter of the fluke. CHARTREUSE Spike it Garlic. Even use the Fluke as a trailer on my Chatterbaits. Same color combo on the Chatterbait. Shawn.

I've always thought of a spinnerbait as something of a reaction strike bite, but i guess its worth a try

I don't even like skirts on most of my spinners. Just a grub or curly tail, depending on conditions, is plenty. When all else fails, I throw a Beetle Spin with a short grub or two inch curly tail. It seldom fails. I like scent more than color, and sound is good in low visibility situations, but it;s funny how much trouble we often go to in order to make a lure as natural as possible, nd then we add elements to spinners that are nothing like real fish. No fish rattles, for instance. I don't know. Maybe we each catch fish by tuning a spinner, or other lure, to our own fishing techniques? I catch a lot more bass with a plain spinner. No sound other than the blade, a grub or short curly tail on a jig head of whatever weight conditions warrant, and no skirt. When I do use a spinner with a skirt, I like adding a plump, round piece of plastic to the hook that mimics an insect's abdomen, and I'll often tie the skirt with a loop that let's the abdomen show better. I like anything that makes a lure look and act more like something found in nature. Though, honestly, the fun factor of modifying a lure so it hooks a big fish ranks way up there, as well.

You didn't address the eye where you tie are use a snap swivel. To keep your line or swivel from moving up and down your spinner bait fowling it up when you cast. Slide a split ring over it or cut a little bit of surgical tubing a lot of less headaches and trailer hook. Might throw in a twister tail or paddle. Just a suggestion your the one with a you tube video.

The skirting has more surface area in contact with the water than the large willow blade, Why wouldn't you scent it their instead?

I think JJ's dyes better... Rattles IMO are a Marketing Ploy, there is a reason most Jig makers have shied away from them.. About 10+ years ago on the Southern Lakes, namely in Texas with our dirty/strained Reservoirs it was all the Rage, gained traction on Fork and Hubbard (Most Pressured Lakes in the South) but soon died down when no real benefits could be measured.

+Eagle971 Marketing ploy it may be but if it increases the angler's confidence in a presentation that angler has a higher chance of getting bites. I'd be willing to wager somebody that has confidence in a spinnerbait with a rattle will catch more fish than somebody that doesn't have confidence in that same exact lure due to the willingness to fish that bait "harder." Just a simple thought.

FishingTheGreatLakes Agreed, I should have mentioned it but I didn't feel it was a necessarily unique point to touch on. I won't throw a spinnerbait unless I've got a trailer hook paired up with it. Too many missed strikes and your chances of a hook up are significantly decreased.

I alway tip mine with a twintailed grub I usually use a grub same colour as skirt ,my biggest pike on a lure in the uk is 16 pound on a spinnerbaits , yellow braids and skirt , yellow twintailed grub .

Another good thing to do (a lot of spinnerbaits come with them out of the package now) is to add a trailer hook onto your spinnerbait because it enables you to hook up with those fish that short-strike you.

+Terry L Actually! Many fish posses what's known as otoliths which are essentially "earstones." These earstones allow the fish to hear, the lateral line is used to pick up vibration in the water caused by turbulence, the fish hears through its otoliths and feels through the lateral line.
