I can’t tell you how much your videos have meant to me , I found them on Amazon a week ago and after watching the nightly news I watch one or two of your your videos as needed to restore my faith in humanity. Love your boat, love your sparse commentary , love the country side and Villages, love ya man. I’ve been wondering how I’ll survive when I catch up to your latest video. I’ve decided that watching again will be like listening to good music. Thanks

Kevin, my lovely Welsh wife and I love watching your adventures and consider you a kindred friend! We were both deeply moved about the goings on that certain, ill-fated NYE. Some souls carry a lot of pain and rage. We want you to know how courageous and lovely you are and that there's always more love than hate in this world.

You have a Grand Narrowboat. It's good your able to maintain it. It takes a lot of knowledge to take care of so many systems, not to mention the savings you achieve by doing it yourself. I notice you have no dog or cat. They are great companions. Much good luck to you in your new undertaking.

Hello Kevin. What a very well designed traditional cruising home and I think the quality and detail of your electrical and mechanical installation is very good. and what a rare and lovely engine. I was a post vintage thoroughbred car restorer when in the UK, until Margaret Thatcher shut down the Chatham Naval Base where I had spent fourteen great years. My wife and I changed our location from the South East to The West Midlands, and we bought Galton a traditional 65ft Gardner engined narrow boat, which we moored near Kinver on The Staffs and Worcs Canal, lived aboard with our dog and two cats and cruised the local canal network extensively. I worked as a boat builder/fitter for a local premier narrow boat builder for ten very good enjoyable years, in the nineties. We came ashore during this time and bought and restored a fifteenth century water mill and cruck framed millers cottage near Bridgnorth in lovely Shropshire. For the last seventeen years I have live in White River near the Kruger National Park in South Africa, and though long retired, I am a consultant at our local car museum.

What a wonderful boat. It just ticks all my boxes: Boatman's cabin, engine room with a vintage diesel, tug deck and portholes throughout. Just perfect! I like the neat kitchen layout too. I just can't wait to hear what the engine sounds like. Thanks for sharing.

+kmanison Thank you, I know what you mean. I spent months looking at boats on the internet, but ones that, as you say, ticked all the boxes, were as rare as hen's teeth. I thought I'd never find one. So when mine popped up, I just had to go for it.

I Just spent the last two weeks each evening, watching your first full series on Amazon, I’ve been living now in Georgia USA for the past 34 years and it’s been an absolute thrill to watch your shows, the English countryside is more beautiful now than I ever remember, those homes and gardens that back on to the canals are fantastic, the pubs and small towns are just amazing. My home town is Chester, I was born in Lower Bridge street a few doors up from the Bear and Billet pub, so familiar with every inch of the city, so proud you have spent so much time there....Oh bugger, now I’m home sick....

Loved the tour and seeing that lovely old engine, I can remember as a 16 year old swinging those Peters engines on a cold winters morning. When I first got my boat back in 1995, had problems with starting and after checking contacts etc. could not find the problem. But narrowed it down to the master switches, I was at Henley to watch the regatta so popped in to Henley pleasures cruiser shop and picked out 2 switches, the assistant asked what was my problem and suggested just buying two keys 1st. Which I did and problem solved for a few shillings. So if you have the same problem check for wear on the keys lugs.

I found your series on Amazon and I have been hooked for the past couple of days. The Amazon offering, however, is missing a tour of your boat. So, here I am. And I am now subscribed and have pushed the bell. Now, I can say that I know what the gizzards of a narrowboat looks like. I have always wondered.. I would like to thank you for sharing yours and Aslan's journey with the world. It is relaxing to watch the countryside, puttering along with the gentle sounds of the smoker. It is nice to see the villages and meander with you through the pubs and streets as you travel. As you so well know, the worldwide lockdown has forced everyone to seek new ways of refuge --- and you have given renewed hope for adventure. Thanks for the relaxing respite from working at home --- now going on six months. I wish I could be on the canal myself - puttering along and watching a sunset. Good travels. Have fun. My wife made it through three episodes before she started snoring last night. Don't take that as a bad thing. It merely means that your videos provide a relaxing interlude and put a person at ease. Great work my friend. Keep on Lock'n.

Great vlog Kev. Even better 2nd time around. Oxo cube on cheese on toast, I must try. I used to work with a chap in Oxford who used an oxo cube in his mug of hot water, instead of tea or coffee. Take care (distancing is the answer). We haven't got covid in NZ except people coming home from overseas, but anybody coming back goes straight into quarantine for 14 days, or until they have a negative swab test. They quarantine in 5star hotels usually reserved for wealthy tourists , get fed restaurant meals and looked after very well. All free as long as you are staying in NZ for more than 3 months. When covid arrived here in New Zealand february 2020, we had a 4week total lockdown for everybody except essential workers, hospital and ambulance staff, police and fire, supermarkets and some petrol stations.(Schools, takeaways, restaurants, pubs, workshops, churches, no more sporting events, or any place people could gather, everything was closed) Anybody not able to work got paid their wages for staying home for up to 6 months. We were allowed to go out for emergencies and food, but we had been told the day before lock down to stock up for a month. After the initial month, there were a few pockets of covid still, most associating with churches or funerals where people had broken the rules, but they were quarantined, and essentially covid was eliminated. We had 25 deaths, mainly in rest homes. We have watched the rest of the world ? Dont know what I would've done without KZbin and you guys who create these amazing vlogs. Many thanks.

Ahhhh, cheese on toast! I can almost smell it here. We call that dish you made toasted cheese toast. And we have the GRILLED CHEESE SANDWICH! The mac daddy of cheese and bread. I use sour dough bread, it's crunchier. Toast bread first, then cheese slices in between the bread slices. Then it's off to the frying pan with a little butter on each side. About 3 minutes a side or until golden, buttery brown. On to the plate, slice sandwich in half. My grandmother said it adds a touch of class. I guess I can use all the class I can get! Surprising what stuff sticks to you during our march through life...

That, Mr CHG, is a very nice boat! I've been living aboard for just over a year now and love it - just wish I didn't need a damned job so that I could CC like you... When I was looking for a boat there was one I lusted after, similar to yours, with an engine room in the middle and some polished-up lump that I drooled over. Sadly out of my price range but still v happy with my trad stern 50 footer. There's a 4-pot Perkins in the engine room that I believe they used to throw into Morris Marinas and the like and, despite the British Leyland strikes and 3-hour tea breaks, seems to chug along quite serenely. I wish you the Best of British on your adventures and look forward to more videos...

Hello from Souther California. I found your series on Amazon Prime and loved it. I binge watched the series and could not get enough of it. I am looking forward to more videos and learning about what you are actually doin at the locks and how they work. Since we do not have a canal system in the USA and I love your videos, I guess that makes me a Gongoozler. Wishing you the best of luck and safe travels!!!

Just seen the previous vid about the purchase. I can imagine you were keen on making the deal before some one else did! What an impressive engine room and boatman's cabin! Looks very well build and layed out. Love the stoves at both ends.

+Nerd3927 Yep, it was such a worry that someone would put a deposit on her, that I put down a deposit and went ahead with a survey etc, before I was financially in a position to commit fully. A real gamble but luckily it paid off.

+George Stephen Thank you George. Yes, I am quietly delighted with how well everything has come together, if I say so myself. The solar panels are a particular favourite of mine. I've had the engine running a couple of times, mainly as demonstrations for other enthusiasts in the boat yard, but it's on the canal that she'll come in to her own. :)

Very solid boat. When the survey talks about "hammer test" I think he's referring to the solid sound the hull makes even where rust is visible. 16:30 steel, when oxidised (rust) expands by 7-11 times its thickness. So 2mm of rust is approx 0.2mm of steel.
