My experience too. I was bought up in care and became a carer for 11 years, I retired about a year ago. The kids were great - well most of them lol. Some were truly a challenge but I mostly had teens soooo. I was fine with the kids and mostly the parents but the department need to liaise LOTS more with the carers, they seem to think we all want to keep all our kids but the truth is we want to keep all our kids not only safe but happy. It seems to me the department doesn’t trust the carers to make decisions on behalf of the child, if that is the case why are the kids in our homes with, in many cases bugger all checks. If you want (or need) something for the child that is a little out of the ordinary or god forbid a little expensive...good luck. You won’t regret becoming a carer but you need to exercise your backbone, it needs to be strong to deal with the department to stand up for your kids rights and needs.

Good job Sandy. "Children need structure." All parents need to remember that.
