Everyone should appreciate what Dom has to say whether they agree or not. He's the one taking the time to make this video. Are you?

Hi, when using the 11-16mm Tokina with the camera in FX you are using much more of the image circle and consequently the edges of the picture will be considerably less sharp. I do agree that it is very useful to be able to use DX lenses but only in DX crop mode.

I love using my D800! Such a wonderful piece of gear to have in my kit.

This EF-S vs. EF lens incompatibility is only Canon lenses feature. Sigma 8-16 EF-S actually have EF mount and could be easily used with FF camera. Samyang I guess also have EF mount for EF-S lenses. On 16mm focal lenght there is even no dark frame around, on other distances crop tool is availbale in editor. I got Canon 6D which works great with Sigma 8-16.

All of Nikon's current full frame cameras have the auto DX mode (Df, D600, D610, D750, D800, D810, & the D4s) as well as many other functions your old D700 did not have.
@sonoruser10 жыл бұрын
Nikon's D700 featured the DX Auto Crop mode also.

I like mine, except I think that files are just unnecessarily too big. At least for what I do

Hi Dom, if you have the battery grip you can bump that fps up a bit on full frame mode

I'm quite sure your wrong..I've put my tokina 11-16 2.8 on a 5d m3..same situation it vignettes at 11 but 16 is fine....
@SaschaBLTN10 жыл бұрын
Same with me but only the tokina, i put it on 6d
@martinaee10 жыл бұрын
Well sure... if you shoot a DX lens in full frame mode you're gonna get weird vignetting. Some lenses though you can still use in DX mode IN full frame mode. The DX 35mm 1.8 works well at 2.8 or larger up close due to focus breathing. Otherwise just shoot them in DX mode on the D800 (or other cam that has that ability).

The only problem with using DX mode on a FX Nikon is that the viewfinder isn't tuned to display what you're actually shooting.
@nerwin10 жыл бұрын
It does display a box in the viewfinder for the DX crop factor. I've used it a couple times on my D610, pretty easy to use.
@martinaee10 жыл бұрын
You can turn a "crop box" on and off. It is not nearly as nice as a viewfinder from an actual DX camera, but it works well enough.

Also, a DX lens will make a 12 megapixels camera about a 6 megapixels camera.

But the D750 buffer which is about the same size as the D800's was too small...? And the D750 could shoot 200 full frame images continuously at about the same speed (but the first 20 or so about twice as fast). And the D750 be used in DX mode in the same way (admittedly at about 10 or 12MP). Just say it Dom, you like the D8x0 body because it makes you look pro (not that your clients can probably tell the diff).
@Dombowerphoto10 жыл бұрын
dont ever remember complaining about the D750 buffer size. drop me the link and time stamp of when i did.

Just got a minty one (1400 shutter count) for 650! Loving it
@A7Guitar10 жыл бұрын
It seems good but the shutter sound would just irritate me to no end. I could even see someone telling me to stop shooting because of it being so loud. Im still on my d200 and its nowhere near that loud. I swear compared to the old nikons the d800 sounds like one of those old wind up toys.

Dee . Ghost it has a quiet mode where by the mirror is caught just before it lands and is set down gently resulting in a very quiet camera indeed (not a new feature by any means - my old D300S had it but it was a feature I missed on the D700 but pleased to see back on my D800) I always use this feature in churches and intimate settings when the shutter sound would be intrusive.
@A7Guitar9 жыл бұрын
nickphotog Ok I know what quiet mode is and what it does along with how it does it. My point is you dont really need it if the company does a proper job with the mechanics and quieting the "snap" sound of the shutter. Its really not out of the realm of what should be done especially considering the price these cameras go for. As I said my d200 shutter is much quieter than that of a d800 and while it may have quiet mode that only helps a little bit. If in quiet mode it were completely silent then absolutely id have no issue but its not. I had a d300s as well but really that in quiet mode was far better than the more modern cameras however its main purpose of not disturbing people or animals was flawed as even in quiet mode it was still loud enough to do that. Honestly in a church I could get away with a d200 on continuous high and still not disturb people meanwhile the d800 and others theres no chance of that. Im not saying the d800 is a crappy camera ok. Its just one feature and besides the d600 and d7000 are way way worse cameras in every aspect. Its just for a company that makes the quiet mode their camera shutters arent all that quiet in comparison to their much older cameras as well as their competition. They really need to work on getting some crucial things fixed vs just going along with the masses who think more megapixels means better quality.

If shooting a wedding, i would ignore orders from others except for the bride or a priest or rabbi conducting the ceremony. The only complaints from those people has been that I not use flash. (Which is of course silly because everyone will be blinded by the camera flashes of the guests; everyone has a camera these days.)
