Hello Dr. Davis, I love your channel, I just did calcium score and my cardiologist told me I have no significant coronary disease because my score was 37, however he told me that that won’t protect my brain, as he put it that those arteries can attack my brain and I can suffer stroke” that’s exactly his words.. he is very well known MSH doc but he is immigrant as I am, so our English is not the best . So, he insists that I take statins because my LDL was 165.. few month ago. I’ve been taking statins since 2007 and I stop taking them like a year ago, because my legs were cramped and ever since I stop taking STATINS I feel great I exercise and I think I’m in great shape.. I’m 64 by the way.. what’s your take on this. How I can lower my LDL cholesterol without statins Thank you Dr.Davis

Very interesting. About 10 years ago my wife and I had a CAC done. Hers was 3 mine was 1187. They suggested a Nuclear Stress Test. It came back inconclusive, so they did an angiogram and it came back 20% blockage in the LAD (the widow maker.) Fast forward, I had an irregular EKG so they suggested I have a nuclear CT done. Well, the cardiologist said my heart was functioning normally. I've been taking K2 with mk7, D3 and IP6 ever since 2012. This same cardiologist told my wife's friend that she needed a stint. She went to Las Vegas to get it done because they live in Henderson NV. Doctor told her she didn't and asked who said she did. So I don't know what to believe. I certainly don't believe Dr. Bhambi in Bakersfield California.

Your words have definitely given me something to keep in mind while talking with him. It's so sad that our health isn't of the utmost concern for many doctors and facilities. I'm a little worried about mine since they said, they were going to give me a beta blocker to slow my heart down, I'm not so sure that a good idea. Before all of this they gave me a stress test that I failed, then they decided to give me an atomic stress test and I told them that it was a bad idea. But they did it anyway and as soon as they did my left arm and chest started hurting, they rushed my from one side of the hospital to the other side where the emergency room was and said, I almost had a heart attack. That's my point, they didn't listen to me, they just did what someone else told them to do and almost killed me doing it. I wasn't to happy with their performance that day. But slowing my heart down, hell it might stop all together and adrenaline will definitely give me a heart attack because we all ready went threw that with the stress test. So they can't bring me back with adrenaline. Hopefully the nitro pills will save me. I had a left heart caf after the failed stress test. They are doing the Ct scan to see if it's gotten worst. So a lot of what you are saying doesn't make much since. The doctor said, the scan was to see if I had more blockage but you just said, it doesn't do that. So who is right my doctor who is the best in town or you?

I'm having serious pain in my heart when I'm standing or walking and my heart beats hard when resting. Does anyone know which test I should do? My doctor wants to do a CT heart scan to check for a blockage, but because of my kidney disease I asked him if there is low radiation way to find out but he said no. I was hoping he might do an mri first.
@Bandhu2413 жыл бұрын
You can get a CMRI (Cardiac MRI ) if CT Scan is problematic. It is also more accurate. Also a nuclear stress test might be good to test for blood flow.
@chaz63993 жыл бұрын
If you're having acute chest pain you should be going to the emergency room or at least a walk in clinic ASAP. That said, there are two common CT heart scans. The Coronary Artery Calcium (CAC) Scan and the Coronary CT Angiogram (CCTA). Both involve radiation exposure but I don't think the radiation is the concern for your kidneys. The concern is the contrast agent. The CCTA uses contrast agent so the risks of using it with KD have to be weighed against the benefits. The CAC does not use contrast agent so there should be no kidney issue with this test. Best of luck. Please let us know how you are doing.

Dr Davis please inform me whether having one stent makes the cac scan worthless. My cardiologist said the cac does no good for people with stents. And he said there is nothing he could do anyway with a high score as only life style change with niacin corrects it. Please comment on cac test for me and also whether there is little value in them. Thank you.
@DrDavisInfiniteHealth4 жыл бұрын
Wow, p: Completely wrong. You can indeed have a CAC scan, but they just cannot score your stented artery. Because one artery is missing from the scoring process, the total score cannot be used for prognostication, but it can be used for TRACKING. Fire your doctor.

Dr Davis does visceral fat cause type 2 diabetes? And how do you accurately measure visceral fat?
@didinx84174 жыл бұрын
Visceral fat can be seen on MRI and I believe dexascans. You can also get readings on tanita or other body composition scales but their accuracy is open to question. If my CAC said significant in all three major coronary arteries, and my score is 360, can I infer I have 120 in each artery? The score wasn't broken down. I guess I am wondering if I am lucky I don't have 360 in one, and zero in the other two.
@DrDavisInfiniteHealth4 жыл бұрын
That detail should be provided in the heart scan report. Contact the center who did the scan and they have to--by law in the U.S.--provide copy of the report.

@@DrDavisInfiniteHealth thanks. I do have a copy of the report and it just says what I posted above. Significant calcification in all three major arteries. Score 360. I will call and see if there is a more detailed report.
@chaz63993 жыл бұрын
You can actually request the entire CT data set including the images. I recently did this for my two CAC scans. After receiving the data set I discovered that the one page report they sent to me and my doctor had an error. The summary report did not include 8 Agatston units of calcified plaque contributed by the lesion in my RCA so it showed my score 8 units less than the value determined by the CT scanner software. Contact the imaging center and ask for a medical records release form. If it's a big institution they probably have it on their web site. Fill it out carefully and submit it. PS: I don't have a citation for you, but I've seen a journal publication that says statistically fewer lesions is better and few number of plaques is better. At least according to this paper one big 360 Agatston units plaque would be better than 3 x 120 spread across three vessels.

My husband has a stent and his calcium score was over 7000. Is that right, Dr. Davis?

Something does not compute here, Karen: Was the stent before or after his heart scan? And are you certain it was 7000?
@nerakonaip4 жыл бұрын
William Davis Yes, I’m sure because he called to double check and also discussed it with the doctor. The stent was put in before the scan. The print out said the stent could distort the number. He has also eaten low carb since July 2018 and lost 50 lbs and is no longer overweight.
@Malcolm-Achtman3 жыл бұрын
@@nerakonaip I suspect your husband's score was severely miscalculated due to artifacts generated from the stent. It would be good to get his scored re-assessed and make sure they ignore the stented artery and evaluate only the unstented arteries.

Ask him why women get mammograms, which have same radiation exposure as a CT scan w/ calcium score. Likewise, if atherosclerosis detected, treatment should ensue in the form of diet and lifestyle modification. Does doc also refuse mammograms for women?
