I’m currently in a mental health unit and when I move into my own place I am considering getting a Doberman as a puppy and train it up to be an emotional support dog or as a service dog.

Counter intuitive, but I just met the sweetest, most intuitive dog ever, an 1yo, 90lb Doberman. I think the secret with this dog is to not let them attach to any one person. Notice any sign of protective instinct, early and reward not choosing violence. If someone wanted to make these dogs mean, Ooph! That dog I met would be a nightmare, and a waste of a good soul.

Canadian here. Both of my Dobes love winter, especially playing in the snow. Come summer time they would rather lay in the A/C.

Same here. If it's 73 degrees outside, my Dobie wants to find shade. He loves snow.

I live in California. My Dobies do not like the cold or rain! Edit: During the summer, my older Dobie will sit in the sun for hours. We have only had the newer Dobie for a few weeks now.

I live in Michigan. Ive raised doberman for 25 years. Never once have they been so cold sensitive they needed a coat.

I agree, never seen it in any of my Dobies. Every time I hear this I think "B.S.". I'm a Chicagoan, and have had Dobermann's since 1987, none have ever had even the slightest cold sensitivity. Did also have a Weimaraner (a great dog, such a sweet gentle soul she had), but she definitely was sensitive to the cold (for example, trying hold her paws up off the ground, once she started feeling cold)

Guess I've been lucky on the cold tolerance. My last boy loved playing in the snow and being outdoors his parents not so much. My current pup was born in February and I've not seen him shiver either. They both were / are inside dogs but want to be outside often. All things being relative I'm in the Mid-East US.

My Doberman goes out in -30 weather. I like to put a coat on him but he could care less. He is always hot to the touch as well

They are the equivalent of bringing a new child into your home. they are not for the busy on the go person or family. I think that's one of the most important things to consider. you must be able to dedicate the time to them. if you're constantly on the go and need a dog you can leave home most of the time this isnt the breed for you. jmo 😁

i was attacked by a HUGE Doberman his name was Samson! i was 15 in the house on my own and he just turned one day grabbed me by the face while i was trying to put myboots on tried to rip my jaw off n near killed me! lots of blood lots of stitches i couldnt eat for weeks as my cheeks had been ripped through v nice lol But i never blamed that dog!😪 He was rescued from a scrapyard poor thing spent his whole life being abused an on a chain Basically raised as a brutal guard dog we had him for weeks in back garden Gave him time to adjust and he just started coming in an out of the house so we thought he was going to be fine But sadly not and my face paid the price 🤣Still love these dogs

Yeah interesting video, got a Dobermann myself. I would argue the most important point would be that they are absolutely mental. They are, if you want them to be good house dogs, incredibly hard to train. Very clever, very intelligent, but that's the problem. He's amazing, but I've had to train myself a 'lot', to be able to manage him.

Well that's absolute garbage. Been raising doberman for 25 years. Easiest dogs to train ever.

@@aliway4136 I've only had a boxer, which I though was hard, but goddamn. This thing is out of this world. He can go from 1% to 110% in seconds. He is utterly mental.

@@aliway4136 I have to agree with you here, also. Hard to train, mental --what???? --- BS. They are one of the easiest, if not the easiest breed to train, never had any issues with any of them inside the house or outside and I can compare them to many other breeds - Weimaraner, Rhodesian Ridgeback, American Staffordshire Terrier, American Bully, Labrador and Pug (owned them all, besides multiple Dobermann's). Dobermann's --- a breeze compared to these others, and none of them were hard/difficult to train, if you know the dog and know what motivates that particular dog.

Cropping and docking is banned in Greece too. I was considering getting a doberman as my first guard dog, but i am worried that their natural look is probably too soft to intimidate. That's not to say natural looking dobermans are incapable in protecting, but i would rather not be attacked in the first place. Has anybody a natural looking doberman? how is it perceived by strangers?

What I do with my dog should not be mandated by the government, that goes for cropping and docking, same as spaying and neutering! I never understood why people want the government standing over them, beating them down with more rules

Not trolling a great video, but think it’s their “sight hound,” cousins who need a jacket. Other than an afghan, maybe, all sights are cold all the time. (Might be the accent. Might have said sight.) thanks for the tips!

Until someone accidentally finds out… my dad, “”dogs,” man’s best friend and biggest liability.” I think man’s insecurities are dog’s biggest enemy. If you need protection, don’t make a dog do it for you.

Point 1 is really spot on. I have experienced on occasion what I can only describe as breed racism. Where people looked at my dog and immediately asked me to leave an area simply because he is a Doberman. Despite that fact that he is highly socialised and very well behaved.

I’ve owned several Dobermans and one Rottweiler, both are fantastic dogs. Dobermans don’t handle cold or heat, they have no body fat to keep warm and no protection from the hot summers they are indoor dogs and part of the family. Think of them as a five year old child that speaks a different language. They must be cropped and docked no matter what anyone thinks! Rottweilers must have the tail docked. although Rottweiler can handle cold and heat much better, they are still sensitive to extreme heat. The Rotty is a calmer bread and much quieter, than the Doberman they tolerate other animals way better than the dobby does, and They love children. Both dogs are very protective and are aware of their surroundings the Doberman will warn before biting while my Rottweiler was quiet and would surprise you. Patients and energy is what it takes to be successful at raising either one of these breeds.

Must be cropped and docked! Don't talk bollocks! Anyone that doesn't this to an animal for aesthetic reasons should be charged with animal cruelty.
