Great video!!! I got lucky when I got mine at an expo. She’s a wild caught juvenile female, and tamed her in a week. She barked, and tried to bite the first couple of times, but after that, she was fine. One of my wife’s Leopard gecko is more bites than she is!!! She doesn’t show any aggressive behavior now, and when I go to pick her up, she crawls onto my hand. I let get acclimated to her enclosure for a week before I started to try and tame her. Now, we watch KZbin videos together, but I only keep her out for 15-20 minutes. Tokays definitely get a bad rap, and are beautiful geckos. I’m going to get a few more, and try to breed some, so hopefully other people can enjoy them like we do!!!

Hi. My son went into the pet store to get a crusted gecko and came out with a tokay gecko! LOL! For months he did research on a crusted gecko but the store did not have one and he wanted a gecko. The place he went got the gecko out of his cage and man let me tell you....they are feisty little suckers. Immediately we wanted to give it back when we got home...….then...….I went in his room to check on Gecky and I sat there and watched for a little bit and talked with him and let me tell you now I would never give him away....I feel like even though they are viscous at times that you look into there little eyes and see their soul and see that they are just the cutest and best pets ever. Every morning and evening we have time together....lol...and he jumps onto the side of his cage and I rub his belly. And we talk. So I think I can soften him up. We will see....thank you for the informative videos on tokay geckos.

That's awesome, geckos are amazing little creatures. I don't have any tokays, but I have a bunch of crested geckos, and a gargoyle gecko, and a leopard gecko. Did you mean "crested" gecko? (not "crusted")

My tokay was my 2nd reptile I ever owned...got him when I was 13 and definitely don’t regret it😂 I did months of research and still wasn’t really ready for him...I actually decided that it wasn’t the lizard for me but I saw him for $20 at a reptile expo months later and I bought him. After 2 years he’s doing amazing!! GORGEOUS animal!! He isn’t really one to handle but he is pretty calm in my opinion... he really only ever “barks” at me when I go to clean his enclosure or when I reach my hand a little to close for his comfort😂💙🧡

Thank you for putting up this series of videos on tokay geckos. It's refreshing to hear someone talk about these misunderstood animals with respect and without misinformation. I'm not new to keeping exotics including reptiles but will be getting my first tokay imminently - rather than the CB baby I was planning next year this will be a WC adult male, captive since juvie then relinquished to a shop and who is reputed to be challenging to work with so all of your advice in the videos is a huge help. I normally refuse to buy wild caught but this guy struggling to find a home due to defensive behaviour got to me . I really appreciate the focus in your content on these being defensive rather than 'evil' and on the importance of research prior to bringing any animal home and vet checks, particularly for WC animals. Keep up the good work bro! :)

I agree with the captive bred aspect of buying. I have had "cheap" $30 import die on me. My replacement gecko is doing much better but that's after $200 worth it vet bills for deworming and IV fluids as well as a fecal smear to check for parasites.

My baby gecko’s are mean but there was 2 runts that didn’t spend too much time with their parents that are very docile. They bite me but not when I’m grabbing them. I put my finger in their enclosure and they approach me thinking that I’m food and try to eat me. Idk why.

Lol, I have a tokay and a forest gecko (smithii) unless you stay up really late and give them next to no hiding spots you won't see them. They will spend all day hiding in Cork tubes etc sleeping and at night if they can see you will likely stay hidden . Also giving them water can be tricky some will drink from bowls some wont you have to watching the humidity too.

Hey, I just placed a purchase for a tokay via cb reptile and it's been taking forever. All the review on the website have been bad recently as well. I still want a gecko, so if my attempt to purchase one from cb goes south, can I get your contact info and I'll purchase one of your captive bred.

You can check online, or find an expo near you. 99% of the ones at expos are juvenile/adult wild caught, unless you find a breeder. There are breeders online that sell captive breed babies.

This lizard is pretty common in Asian country but they are also Asian people worst nightmare.
@bobbiec28293 жыл бұрын
From what I understand they are hunted and killed for medicinal purposes (which they have no proven medicinal value) by locals so I'm sure the Tokays feel the same way about the people in their native habitat.

@Dakotahblueexotics4 жыл бұрын
Tokays dont love nor enjoy being handled. At best they tolerate it and it is an unnecessary stress to them by consistently handling them. Saying things like tokays love and enjoy is anthropomorphizing the animal.
