Yeah, I regularly change the oil in my Tesla no more than 5,000 miles or no later than a year. The people at the service center are all like “just shut up and take her money.” Whatever they feel like doing, so long as I don’t void my warranty.

These are the same people who think 100K on a car is HIGH and too much and time to look for another NEW car. Therefore always spending $$$ on new cars after 4-5 years and thus never worrying about the neglect they did for 5 years. But they pay for it with new cars!

Back in the late sixties I was working in a shop and a regular customer brought his late model Buick because it had no power and was running bad. We did the normal checks and couldn't find anything really wrong with it. We were an honest shop with a good rep and not known to give up on anything so after spending hours on this thing, I went out on a limb and said it acts like someone stuck a potato up the tailpipe. No potato, so we started it up , put it in the air and checked the exhaust , which looked perfect but was cooler just after the y-pipe. We cut the pipe open and found out it had been double piped at the factory and the inner pipe had collapsed and restricted the exhaust flow. we asked the customer and he said he had run through a giant puddle at the cottage just before the this all happened. The inside pipe was hotter and the sudden cooling caused it to collapse while the outside looked normal. Your story reminded me of this.

A camry, especially an older one should last until the wheels fall off, not due to engine or transmission failure. Everything on my 98 is falling apart, but the engine still runs almost like when it was bought brand new by my grandparents.

If you are the person that does little maintenance on your car, the most important thing you should do is check and change your oil regularly.

Yep, a car with a well-built engine will last forever, but only if basic maintenaince is performed. Engine oil is the most important fluid in the car. It amazes me that some neglect changing oil. My 98 Camry has 273,000 miles, still starts and runs strongly because I keep clean oil in the engine. Everything else is falling apart on her, lol, but has only requred minimal basic care to keep her running strong.

@@bigl5343 same here I got a 2003 Toyota Camry with 215k miles and I do oil changes every 3,000 miles. And when something breaks I try to replace it as quickly as possible. Even doing this for 7 years and have had little problem with her.

Years ago I had two friends who thought it was the Oil Company trying to get you to buy more by telling you it needs to be changed. "!! It isn't squeaking yet !!" "It still works" (he thought if it was bad the engine would squeak like creaking door hinge)

I had an AWD Dodge Durango that sucked water up that was barely up to the lug nuts. The intake was over the fan, a wave in the water hit the fan and it propellered the water right into the engine. Goodbye engine.😣

My dad taught me to change my oil and oil filter every 2500 to 3000 miles and that was back in the seventies. Still changing the oil and filter in my car between 3000 & 4000 miles because of synthetic oil. My current car is a Toyota Camry XLE. I drive about 7000 miles per year so that averages out to about twice per year. I'm not a believer in 5000 to 7500-mile oil changes and never was. And I've never had engine problems. Cheap insurance!

My 2010 corolla has that rattle at start, its very common in this era toyota. But its every single time and its intense. It has done it since about 160k. Doesn’t effect the car. Recently it started doing it at low RPMs too. It can start at a random age, usually starts to happen quicker if you dont change oil frequently. But my corolla now has 210k miles, rattles at every start but starts everytime

Had same issue with my girlfriend 2012 Accord 2.4. I changed the VTC solenoid and still had the noise so it ended being the VTC actuator. It stops holding oil pressure in the actuator so it makes that rattle on cold starts at 84000 miles. Previous owner changed the oil at 10 to 12 thousand miles probably why it failed. 1100 dollars for part and labor at Honda dealer. They say it does not cause any problems but I seen where if the timing chain gets stretched it could break. i rather be safe than sorry runs like a top now.

30 some years ago, I popped out a ball joint going over RR tracks. 20 some years ago, I broke my half shaft trying to get my car unstuck from snow. Rear axle mounts rusted on my old Pont 6000. I've driven a few cars until the wheels feel off.

Everytime we get heavy rain that causes flooding, the local news always says "Turn around, don't drown". You can tell how deep the flooded water is, so why risk it? Some people are stupid thinking they can drive through the water as they think it doesn't look to deep.

I once was a passenger in an old 80's Ford Ranger that caught fire going down the road. Oil had just been changed, cap was forgotten. Used dirt and our shirts to put it out. All that needed replacing was the plug wires.

My coworker bought a new Equinox and literally had the rear wheel bearing failure at just over 800 miles and the wheel came off on the e way. It damm near killed her and the car was destroyed on the rt rear wheel well and facia. Needless to say the dealer said that’s common on these vehicles and it is no big deal🤣

"Things to never do to your car" Let a shop or dealer change your oil. They will always over tighten or drain plug to the point of stripping the threads and you will destroy it trying to get it off. Same goes for the oil filter. If you want it done right then do it yourself.

Had this happened to a Lexus. Dealer tightened the oil filter housing so much I ended up cracking it trying to get it off.

First time I ever changed my own oil the filter was on so tight I had to hammer a screwdriver through it to get it to turn enough for me to remove it. From then on I only truly trust myself to work on my car

@@MV-zt6gb i was a mechanic for years, just kindly mention it to them. Maybe say something like "another shop stripped it once" or something along those lines. for whatever reason a lot of mechanics are grumpy and take offence when someone tells them how to do their job.

@@patdaveoneil I have to say, the first generation dodge Durango’s with the 5.9 L V8 engine are pretty dependable vehicles. All you have to do is take care of those engines and they can go 300,000 miles. I regularly see Durango’s with those engines that have gone over 300,000 miles. I’m not saying they built as good or better than a Toyota but I am saying they can make some reliable cars. They haven’t made good vehicles that were in the last 10 years.

@@patdaveoneil My 1965 Fury was a nice ride. It's motor still lives, that 383 is powering a different car now, but it's still going! The guy I sold that car to in 1990 tracked me down a couple of years ago to let me know it's still running.
