The problem with a lot of writing in the 40K universe is it the imperium of man is so big that it has to lose constantly or at best gets a pyrrhic victory because if it ever really wins a fight it's over for whomever they're fighting. The only ones I get to ever really beat are like the tyranids or the necrons or chaos because all of those factions just run away and go I'll get you next time gadget. This makes groups like The tau look super badass because of plot armor because to be honest if they lose even one battle they're crushed under the imperium's weight and their entire species is genocided. It makes me want the imperium to start losing in the lower so that at least they can start winning.

I know what you mean, but what i like about the 40k storytelling is that there are barelly any real „victories“. On the example of the tau, they completely lost against the imperium in the Damocles-Gulf Campaign. They suffered massive casualties and would have been wiped out if the imperial forces didnt retreat. Sounds stupid, but then the story from the other side goes that this was at the same time as the first Tyrannic war and all imperial ships were called to Macragge to stop the Tyranids. The tau didnt „win“, they were devastated, morale crushed, they lost millions of lives and this whole thing ended an era for them... Same with the battle for Agrellan (M‘gulath bay), tau win the planet, imperium takes it back, tau re-capture it in a grand campaign... only for the imperium to exterminatus the planet and burn it to the ground, again defeating the Tau. Another aspect is that no group in 40k ever had a real 100% full force battle, to even the odds and avoid the whole „this faction got wiped out forever“ storyline. Even the Major events like the fall of Cadia had GIANT armies, but in the end it was like „1 ship of the Ultramarines here, 100 black templars there..“ and not the full might of the imperium (same with chaos, as the death guard and Thousand Sons were busy fighting elsewhere). It would be boring if someone would just outright loose amd at the end of the day no Player wants to see his faction always loose. If they just said, „well the Eldar got wiped out by a giant ork-waaagh“ noone would buy their Minifigures anymore...

This species is also incapable to do any magic ... And you know what ? Commander who are just promoted to command soldier have BS2+/WS3+ ... So actually the Tau isn't naturally weak as a species but are made so for the sake of the deal the ethereal made with the gods ! And only when a Tau start to gain some independance and distance themselves from the ethereal do they regain their normal capability. Would also explain why farsight get so much "you get 3+BS on your soldier" and why they aren't horrible in melee fight. The more i think about it the more it make sense ! Change my mind

Farsight has always been one of my absolute favourite characters in the setting. He isn't just a strong brute force characters, but also just a really really competent strategist. Like, the way the man can manipulated orks would even make yarrick proud. I honestly hope he meets guilliman some day. He needs to meet a genuinely level headed Imperium leader one day instead of zealous morons for once, I feel like there's so much potential there. And anyone that can shit on I Cato Sicarius is automatically a legend, period.

Faarsight has to be my only real favorite among the Tau. Mainly because despite the setting breaking tech the Tau have enjoyed till 10th edition, Faarsight is more of an actual strategist. It's actually nice to see someone break the Codex Astartes in front of the Ultramarines and not end up joining Chaos. This being said the author of this video is already aware of my assessment of the longevity of the Tau Empire. I believe having Guilliman match wits with Faarsight and offer his people citizenship within the Imperium invoking the ancient Rites of Imperial Compliance from the Great Crusade (look it up, the Imperium would let xenos join if they submitted to human rule) era. This would allow the Imperium to undergo a dramatic shift in technology and culture regarding tech. Many will complain about this but given the Nids are currently poised to take the galaxy (yes that is how badly GW wrote themselves into a corner) they need to begin making drastic changes. Plus alot of the rot within the Imperium has more to do with anti Imperial sentiment within the authors of the Black Library than the intent of GW. Hence the tech leads in 9th and 10th edition

This... Would be pretty dang cool, but... Seeing as how farsight is such a good strategist, he'd probably immediately notice that submitting to imperial rule would likely lead to the annihilation of the enclaves, as the Imperium would immediately notice the AIs the Tau use. That, and the farsight enclaves do not represent all of the Tau in the Galaxy. Besides, would the Imperium even let them keep their own tech? I'd bet EVERY techpriest in the Galaxy would be either creaming their lower limbs or overheating in righteous fury. They'd probably confiscate everything the Tau have, then call it all heresy in a week and never give it back.

The Tau was utterly defeated by the "damocles crusade" which was not even a full crusading force and the only reason they disnt get wiped out by the Imperium is that the Tyrannids suddenly appeared in the Macragge system. Also the farsight may have beaten the old tactics of the space marine but he has never faced Primaris marines and Custodes in combat.

What kicked off the xenophobia was the fact they, along with many abhuman races, decided to take advantage of the Weakened Imperium post Horus Heresy. Also in lore the best thing the impirium can call on are dark age tech which would blow Tau minds in how advanced it is. For those that are interested, there's a 40k series called the Tau empire reamagend by a youtuber named Heretical Hatter. In that version, the Tau empire is called the coalition it's fought against Orks Chaos and more that will help them be better prepared for the imperium who will consider the coalition to an even greater threat than it's cannon conterpart it's got 56 member species all of which have lore on what they look like and they're culture and have almost 860 worlds with a few hundred being space stations and a blank species. AND this is before the Gulf Crusade.

It would probably take a fair bit longer. The imperium got as far as they did because for a lot of the great crusade they wearnt colonising, but annexing already colonised worlds from survivors of the dark age of technology. Whereas the tau don't have that same head start in terms of population density and galactic diaspora
