On which kind of shot should we use this short push? On a service or during the rally? Also in both cases, can we use it on an underspin ball, a top spin ball or a floater?
@pingskills26 күн бұрын
Great question! The short push is most effective against underspin balls, often during service returns or when your opponent plays a short push themselves. It’s tricky to use on topspin or floaters since those require a different approach. Focus on underspin situations, and you’ll see its real impact!

Hi coaches! I hope I could ask two questions? 1. I wonder how your technique should change when your opponent plays heavy backspin on their short serve (the kind that makes the ball dip into the net immediately!). Does one slice or push more then? 2. You mentioned how a looser/softer grip impacts the incoming spin (and absorbs it too!). Does this also work with loops, i.e. if i loop with a somewhat looser grip, it'll be less sensitive for incoming spin? Thank you so much for your efforts and the video!!
@pingskills24 күн бұрын
Hi! Great questions-happy to help! 😊 1️⃣ For heavy backspin short serves, focus on adding more of your own spin by slicing or brushing under the ball more. A slightly more open racket angle and a sharper, controlled motion will help lift the ball over the net while keeping it short. 2️⃣ Yes, a looser grip can help with loops too! A softer grip allows your racket to absorb some of the incoming spin, making your shot less sensitive to it. This is especially useful for maintaining control when countering heavy spin. Thanks for your thoughtful questions and kind words-glad you enjoyed the video! 🏓👍

What about serves that are fast and deep? Would the technique/general idea still work?
@pingskills24 күн бұрын
Good question! For the fast and deep serves, it’s better to block or topspin the ball back. The short push works best on short serves, especially with backspin. Hope that helps! 🏓👍
@tantran271120 күн бұрын
is there a difference between push and chop?
@pingskills19 күн бұрын
Generally a push is done against a backspin ball and a chop is done against a topspin ball.

Can u make a video about how to hit back the ball on the side of the table
@pingskills13 күн бұрын
Thanks for your comment. Did you want to see a video about how to hit the ball around the net? I'm not quite sure what you mean by hitting the ball on the side of the table.

@@pingskills @ I struggle when my opponent aims the ball at the edge of the table while being close to the net😓, hopefully u can explain to me (its okay if only in comments) how to hit that back because ill play against him very very soon (in 2-3 days). I’ve been watching ur vids ever since I started TT, ill definitely watch the vid of hitting the ball around the table! Tysm

@@clebtweety836 Ah I think I understand! That’s definitely a tricky situation! When your opponent plays close to the net and aims at the edge. Whats the huge difference beetwen push short and chop?
@pingskills24 күн бұрын
Great question! The key difference is in the length and intent of the shot. A short push is designed to keep the ball low and close to the net, making it hard for your opponent to attack. A chop, on the other hand, is a defensive shot played from farther back, adding heavy backspin to control or neutralise an opponent’s attack. Here's a tutorial on the forehand chop: www.pingskills.com/tutorials/advanced-strokes/forehand-chop
@Ligatmarping22 күн бұрын
@@pingskills a curiosity, here in Argentina we call both those shots the same, "corte" refering to the backspin, but dont actually have words for differentiate the push from the chop. Reading and watching videos in english I got to realise the distinct terms. Btw sorry if my english isnt perfect xd.

@@Ligatmarping I see. I think it's helpful to have different terms. Your English is great. Definitely better than my Spanish 😀

Do you mean with your bat? A lot of people tend to do this but if you are stayling low with bent knees and step in close it might help you.
@solarwave25 күн бұрын
If you try to hit the net with the ball and you are successful, is it still proper etiquette to say "sorry?"
@pingskills25 күн бұрын
Yes, it is a strange part of the game but people generally still say sorry when the ball hits the net or the edge.

This is very hard to learn, especially when your opponent has good serve
@pingskills25 күн бұрын
You're absolutely right-it can be challenging, especially against strong serves. But with practice and a focus on early contact and soft hands, you'll see progress. Stick with it-you’ve got this!
