What do you ruminate on from your past?♥️

Hah! Everything! Not necessarily traumatic or even unpleasant stuff, but it does take away huge amounts energy from the present regardless of content.

Mistakes, every mistake I have ever made. That time when I was 3 that I thought my mom’s lipstick was candy and ate it. That time I answered a science question wrong in 2nd grade. That time I called my teacher “mom”. That time I misunderstood when mom handed me soap and I took a shower instead of washed my face. That time got in a physical fight with a kid in first grade who drowned shortly after. That time I threw my Barbies out of the window of the apartment and another kid took them… up to that last conversation where I should have said something else instead. Sending a text message in the middle of the night because you just remembered you forgot to text them back or have something important to say happens 😬

My oldest son who unfortunately passed away when he was 16 was diagnosed with what was called ADD in the 1990,s. He was a very kind hearted kid but very hyper and mischievous. Every one loved him. I remarried 4 years ago and my 10 year old step son was diagnosed. His mother soon after that. I was often left exhausted and frustrated with some of their symptoms. I was like her parent. I started studying more about it and recognised a lot of symptoms in myself so I went for an assessment with a psychiatrist and to my surprise I was diagnosed. I was completely shocked. My symptoms manifest very differently to my wife and stepson even my oldest son. I just started vyvanse and what a difference it has made. My reaction is different, concentrating, more motivated, less frustrated, less anxious, less intrusive thoughts. Even my IBS has subsided. The only thing I find hard is the crash. It is early days yet. Do neuro divergent people often seek each other out or attract each other without knowing?

I’ve not been diagnosed with ADHD but I seriously have all the symptoms…. Rumination and negative thoughts have plagued me my whole life and at the age of 52 I’m only making sense of this now…. I wish I understood what was going on earlier in my life. It explains so much from my childhood to difficulties through school and socially……

You learn pretty quick to gage the room, and slip the appropriate attitude, emotion, mask on. It's the same way we learn fire is hot. I don't know what to tell you young ones. I hope knowing is helping you as much as it's helped me to get to know myself. 61 is late in life, but I am thrilled to finally understand me.

How does one go about getting officially diagnosed? I'm pretty convinced I have had inattentive ADHD forever. Ruminating, emotional dysreguation via insane crying if someone I care about gets angry, never getting around to cleaning (inability to do it), getting extremely antsy when pinned down to do tasks I am not into - sometimes even things I enjoy, being in my head far too often, inability to focus on a lot of conversations especially if I feel the slightest bit unsafe, and so much more. Where do I start? ANd is there anyone who takes insurance that does this?
@sarakellyADHDCoach

It really depend where you live. Most start with their GP if they don't have access to a psychiatrist. Your GP hopefully can refer you to someone who can diagnose, if they can't. Good luck!

Thank you so much. Your advice really helped me deal with a difficult bout of rumination after a triggering event. I find it difficult to recall these tips in the moment and have taken to writing them with sharpie on my hand or wrist (something I can’t misplace throughout the day, haha!). I appreciate you creating free and accessible content for ADHDers unable to pay for classes 💞 thank you for making the world a better place🌟

I ruminate on any mistake or perceived mistake I might make and what others think of me. So everything I guess?…. Mostly, when I’m overwhelmed and overstimulated, which is pretty much all the time, while I’m awake lol 😂 the only way to make it stop is if I have a deadline or I HAVE to be moving my body around, constantly and it will fade away (somewhat).

I understand completely. It's so tough but mindset can really help when you work on it long term to build neuroplasticity around all of this and help our brains along as much as we can❤

So how do you combat rsd? I constantly reassure my wife, but she keeps telling me i dont like her
@sarakellyADHDCoach
@sarakellyADHDCoach Жыл бұрын
The first thing I would do is validate her feelings, then I would ask her for evidence of those feelings. 'What have I done, not done, or said to make you feel this way?' 'What can I do to reassure you that I'm committed to you, and I love you?' I am a mindset coach, she might benefit from my program? Hope this helps:)
