I've been sewing for years and also learned new information. TY. I am new to bagmaking though and came here to find out if my assumption that I should use #3 zips for interior pockets and #5 for bag exterior pockets was right. And while I read the patterns, I never noticed they put the size of the zips in the pattern (the one I'll be making says #3 or #5 for interior pocket). I just read what length was needed. A lot of my purchased zips don't specify their number, but after comparing the two, I can tell the difference. For bags & purses- interior and exterior regular pockets, what size do you prefer to use? OBTW, Diane from Spencer-Ogg says you should never snip the long edges of a zip unless it has the reinforced stitching along the teeth. This is because even if you snip well within the seam allowance, these zips could eventually fray. She has a video about it.

This was an excellent video! Thank you! I've been making zip pouches and bags for a while now and I've got to say that I wish there was a way to always know the size zip the designer installed. Often it's listed, sometimes not. I've struggled to make corrections too many times because I guessed incorrectly when choosing my zip.
