I made the experience that a few traffic lights are actually good for flow. Make sure that blocks with connecting streets onto main roads are not too regular. Every crossroad will slow down traffic - even without traffic lights. Station Building directly connecting onto main roads are a big problem though. Always set them back or into less busy areas, otherwise busses will clogg up entry and exit of the stations, then build up onto the the roads and block crossroads. When you have high traffic roads feeding into each other, and not all of them are the same lane, upgrade at least the bit before the intersection to the highest lane-size you have in the intersection. Otherwise cars from a 4-lane turning into 6-lane will only use 4 lanes as well there. A big part of it is also map design/city placement. Two big cities close to each other: manageable Three big cities close to each other: demanding, needs a lot of attention More than that: You will manage traffic all day long and do nothing else anymore I would love if cars would make smarter routing decision, like if turning right only using the right line and not the middle lane as well...

That's the first thing I would have done. Move the depots back to less busy roads. When I start having traffic issues I make sure my truck or bus routes don't use the main street. They can enter/ exit via it but as soon as possible I route them down side streets.

Ive been playing Transport Fever since 2017 and I can tell you that when your cities suffer from traffic there is usually one intersection that causes the trouble. If upgrading to six lanes isnt enough, I would suggest moving that intersection out of the city and placing a roundabout or cloverleaf there

I've always found if I have traffic, it probably means my transport network isn't doing a great job. Sometimes I watch the traffic flows and then add a bus or tram route onto that road which then engoucrages peopoe to ditch the car and use my transport. My biggest city I ever built had a Subway, Central Station, Buses, Trams and Light Rail. No traffic issues at all.

Thank-you! It's lifted straight from an old series on the channel that got mothballed due to instability. Re-opening it to use for the tutorial has made me want to get it going again though.

*add one more lane* will never work in a city

The game could do with more traffic management tools but these tips are certainly helpful, I particularly liked not connecting bus/truck stations directly to roads, one of those things that so obvious when you see someone show it working, cheers! 👍 What's your experience with bus lanes in cities like this? I've a suspicion they can often exacerbate the problem. 🤔
@andrewplays13943 жыл бұрын
I hadn't seen it mentioned elsewhere, and thought it made such a huge difference being able to remove the traffic lights, I was surprised I hadn't seen reference to it anywhere else!

I play the first transport fever game and I removed the bus lanes and things got better, they didn't help. Weird huh?

Would there also be an option to raise the height of the main road coming into your city area and create a bypass with exits leading into the city? You see this in real life as well... Ring Roads they call it.

What mod are you using for all those icon?
@bobykim53116 ай бұрын
Thanks for the video. TPF 2 needs large parking spots or parking garages were people can park their car outside town and go in town by pt. Upgrading roads only generate more traffic so its not a solution.

I've never seen a city THAT big! I'm guessing there must be mods involved because I don't even think it's possible to have cities that large in vanilla!

Its pronounced Gill ing ham as in a fish gill. I sorta miss having to deal with traffic however the game chokes after the map has more thank 20k peds. Which this happens really quickly when you let the towns develop. If you don't mind the lag a few other solitons I do myself is for a start get the town better connected. Use the underground trams mod to create a metro network linking to your train station. Lastly just disconnect roads from any towns you haven't gotten a connection too yet. This way they wont drive miles across the map. Good video btw

how did you get the city to be that big?

I think it is one of the mods - I cannot remember the exact name, but something like realistic city growth. I believe it allows for larger, more natural-growth cities

Make sure the city has as many conections to other cities as possible. Use trains, buses and trams. And supply with city with it's industrial and comercial needs.

@mccarbon69662 жыл бұрын
@@pranavsaykar8952 you can place two or even more cities right on top of each other. as a result you get a megacity. but you are going to spend a lot of time fixing the traffic and creating a good roadsystem

this is great but you missed a couple of things- roundabouts and motorways, and upgrading roads pretty much does nothing. you should never NEED to turn off traffic lights unless you are recreating a country like some parts of asia that dont really use them. nice video tho mate!

Holy cow. You're applying the same methods as US did in the last 80 years, with results worse than before : widen, add more lanes, increase road capaciy, bulldoze useful infra. All of that in a city with no central passenger rail station and no public transit with right of way. No wonder why you get so much traffic ! The right answer : PLAN your city to include proper efficient, high-capacity, city-scale and properly connected PUBLIC TRANSIT. And pedestrian network. No more traffic problem what so ever.
