in line manager set your truckstop to use multiple platforms, any free platform will be used and you have no buildup of trucks, you can also get away with less platforms. I also make the platforms longer.

This was one of the first TF2 videos I watched and I remember at the time being so clueless and overwhelmed by what you were talking about, as well as the same feeling when trying to play the game. I think I resorted to really simple river cargo for my first run but now I'm back with a "Fully" fledged logistics company and need to know how to optimise my 20+ truck stops lol
@colmortimer10662 жыл бұрын
Most of this I had figured out, I would say use 1 unloading platform for every line as long as you have no issues. If you get slowdown add another. But I would add one loading for each loading route, it not only spreads thing out more but lets you see if you have a line with fewer goods. You may be able to move some trucks around once you see which lines are congested or empty. What I learned, and something I struggled a lot with with, was getting the one way entrances to work as I think they should. I should be able to sort them out after watching this one. :)

Truck stations play a way too big role in this game for me. Each industry should have it's own truck stations inside, each cargo railway stations should have a truck station. The only place where you should be forced to use a truck station is if you want a central HUB for redistribution.

When it comes to any building that isn't a direct raw resource (grain, crude oil, etc) you can use the drop off points to help prevent jams, just place them outside and it acts how you'd expect, depoting their resources directly into the building. This way, only those picking up the refined resources can use the truck station. This is handy for when you have limited space

Thank you for this! Right after watching it, I ran into this problem with more than one station at the same time. I didn't even realize I could expand them. Much better now, though I can't keep trucks from entering and leaving wherever they want, even after assigning platforms.
@KuzakoTheAvali3 жыл бұрын
I can still foresee issues with your solution, a big one stemming from the fact you said you play with your trucks set to wait until fully loaded. Well if you have 2 steel trucks come in together and the Steel Mill only has one of the 2 things, Coal or Iron, those steel trucks will be blocking the entry and not let any Iron/Coal trucks in. What I would do personally is have 3 platforms, one for your 3 Coal lines, one for your 3 Iron lines, and one for the Steel pick up and have a one way entrance in line for each platform and a single exit. From my experience this is the best way to deal with multiple lines in a single station.

Is it best to try and get multiple raw resources connected to the one factory rather than just the next closest factory to the second resource site. I hope that makes sense
@KuzakoTheAvali2 жыл бұрын
@@PrimeNPC I think I get what you're asking. Factories will only take in what they can use. If say a stone quary is already maxed out its output, but the bricks need more input, then you would want to get a second stone quary outputting to there. Otherwise you would be better off sending stone to the second brick factory. Best advice I can give is to keep an eye on the needs of cities and factories and work around those.
@MerfWorks2 жыл бұрын
Yes, but what I find, and I can't explain it, if you have a 2nd input source it's production is slower than the first. So if you are transporting grain to a food factory, if you add a 2nd farm, the 2nd farm seems to always produce at a slower rate than the first. I don't know why.
@KuzakoTheAvali2 жыл бұрын
@@MerfWorks That is due to the fact the food factory will only intake the wheat needed for the output being demanded. See my previous comment.
@PrimeNPC2 жыл бұрын
@@MerfWorks So is it best to focus on one raw resource output and level it up before adding a second resource output to any existing lines or maybe best to just keep them separate. I keep finding that my iron and coal to steel lines are always wonky. Even when using a train to transport 40 units of coal against 10 trucks moving iron, my two factories have like 2000 iron stored but only like 60 stored coal.

Like the video. Some inspiration: video about droppoint Drop point mix vehicles This is wat I like to make : Raw materials go from A to B - from B there are 2 lines : - Goods to C (city end user) with trucks - Goods to D (docks with boat )and from D to E (city end user )

Yea i guess it is pretty inefficient for all lines to unload on the same platform. Especially when you have so many lines coming in from everywhere. It's a bit of a nobrainer. I just wasn't sure how to use the one way entrance/exits properly. I didn't realize you could just delete the main entrance like that.

Usually I would make separate truck stations for receiving and sending items. Say, using your setup, I would have one dropoff station (which is two platforms long) and one sendoff station (that I would adjust according to the output rate of the factory in question). Also, to avoid traffic, both stations have their own access road, and like how you set up yours, they have separate in and out roads. But definitely your advise here is very good for beginners and for users who like to centralize cargo distribution. And oh, the same rule for me applies to my trains and ships as well.
@MerfWorks3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the feedback. I continue to wonder what's more cost effective and efficient in a case like this. One large truck station or separate ones for drop off and pick up as you have suggested. I guess if you have separate ones, that should cut down on traffic congestion.

Is there a way to have the truck stations load onto multiple outgoing routes better? I set up a route going from a quarry to a place that turns the stone into construction materials(brick) and then continued on to take the brick to a town. This doesn't work very well as the trucks then have downtime while they wait for that stone to be turned into brick. So I set up another route with just a couple of trucks to go from quarry to brick so it could get ahead. But then the quarry would only load the trucks on the shorter route and the others were lucky to get even one stone before carrying on even with a 2 minute wait. It would even start losing product because it simply wouldn't load them. It's there a way to fix this in case some of the product needs to go to another destination or town?

By putting the exit where you did, entering trucks and exiting trucks had to merge 🤦♂️

How do you prevent that?
@jsbrads14 ай бұрын
@@danielmethner6847 you put the entrance at the “top” right of the station and you put the exit at the bottom right of the station so exiting trucks use the bottom road and entering use the top road. Once the inlet and outlet leave the station, you generally want to separate them so truck that use them don’t gridlock. Also when diverging the two roads, try to make the entry ramp longer as trucks may need to queue, whereas the only thing the exit ramp needs is a location that won’t bog down.

Very helpful and neat. But what happens if the trucks are queuing to gain access to the platform to pick up goods/ My biggest problem is that trucks queing for platform X block access for trucks trying to reach platform Y. There is a number of things you can check. Click on the truck station. If the factory doesn't light up white, then the factory is not within the catchment area of the station. Also, select a truck that carries "All Cargo" to avoid the mistake of picking a vehicle that can't carry the product. Uncheck everything in the "Unload" column. Check to make sure you are not getting a warning on the line. If all else fails, dispose of the vehicle, delete the line and start over. Hope this helps.
