Hey Paul, great videos. I fish Oklahoma as well and I'm trying to get as much knowledge as I can on crappie fishing since I'm pretty new to it. I have a few questions regarding rod, reel, and line setup I was hoping you could answer.. I'm mainly going to be fishing from a kayak and was wondering what length ACC rod I should get. I saw alot of great reviews from all of them and was wondering if I should maybe get a 5'6 and a 8'. Also I'd like to stick to a spinning reel and was wondering what size and what kind you'd recommend to go along with those rods since there is many out there. My last question is since you recommend fluorocarbon line, do you just spool the whole reel with it? Or do you start the reel with mono and then spool the rest with fluorocarbon.. I've seen on forums and fishing websites that say they wouldn't recommend spooling straight fluorocarbon because it tends to slip off the reel to easy because of the design of it, but some say that if you use 4lb or 6lb fluorocarbon you are able to since the diameter is smaller so it works. Can't really seem to get a solid answer everywhere I look. Thanks Paul, and keep up the great content!

Hello and thanks for the question! I would use the 5'6 or 7'5 ACC rod paired with a Pflueger PRESSP30X President - amzn.to/2whKqpR and this line - 6lb Flurocarbon line - amzn.to/3icSRsF. I use 4lb or 6lb fluro and it does not slip off that bad. you want to make sure you put the line on your reel the same direction the line is coming off the spool. It is true that fluro will come off the spool but if you use lighter line it works fine. If you are casting a lot from your yak then you might be better off using mono and fluro so you dont get line twist. I would for sure use a swivel as well, that will help keep you line from twisting. I would rig two poles up. one with mono and fluro and one with just fluro. try them both out and see which one works better for you. Trial and error is the only way to really know what will work best for your situation. I hope that helps! thanks again for the question! tight lines my friend

When fishing for crappie, when should I use flourcarbon and monofilament line ?
@GrandLakeGuy
@GrandLakeGuy 3 жыл бұрын
I don't use mono anymore. It stretches and fluro doesn't. So you can feel the bite better on fluro. But they both work so I would just use whatever you feel most confident with.

What’s your thoughts on braided line?
@GrandLakeGuy
@GrandLakeGuy 3 жыл бұрын
It doesn't stretch either. So you can feel the bite good. It also doesn't break as easily. It's good for sniping individual fish or ripping them out of brush. But SOMETIMES the fish don't like it. When I use braid I use spider wire invisi braid because it's clear and you can still see it out of the water.

Braided line sounds like it might be the best way to go since crappie I mainly in brush piles and tree tops.

That sounds pretty normal to me. Sometimes it takes a lot of work to find them. Especially if you haven't been fishing in awhile
