Excellent video once again! I've to say that I really enjoy the way you structure and deliver your lessons. I find them much better than any other "tutorials" I've seen before. As a novice, I do have a question though - do you apply any sort of finishing to your carvings before/after painting them? Thank you!

Thanks for the positive comments, I'm glad you enjoy the videos! As for finishing prior to painting... the answer is that I do sometimes apply oil prior to painting. On these beginner carvings I like to keep it simple and want people to know you can paint easily directly onto the wood. However, I do sometimes coat with boiled linseed oil prior to painting. I do that on my gnomes or other figures. I have an older video that goes over that process if you're interested. You certainly could apply the oil on these simple carvings prior to painting as well for a slightly different finish. Just be careful when working with Boiled Linseed Oil in particular as if you don't dispose the rags properly they can spontaneously combust. I have never personally used any other pretreatment prior to painting, but there are a lot of other options out there that some people use.
