Hi, Candace. You probably don't remember me, but you and I were in a show many years ago when you were just a child. It was Alamogordo Music Theatre's 2001 production of "The Secret Garden." You were Mary, and I was your (ghostly) deceased father. Anyway... I will soon be doing my first Shakespeare production at NMSU in Las Cruces, so I thought I'd check the Internet to see if I could pick up a few tips. Imagine my surprise when I saw your video! Thanks for the great tips! Please know that I admire you greatly for pursuing your dream of acting. I remember you being a very talented young lady, but it takes great courage to enter the field of acting! Here's to you for accepting that challenge, and I am glad to see that you are doing well.

That was actually amazingly helpful. Thanks so much! I’m a lot less worried about playing Titania now. I got so caught up in doing everything justice that I almost forgot to have fun.

I recommend using the the Oxford University Press editions instead of the Folger editions. they cost more for each play but it's worth it. Also a script is not a play- it's a text. A play is something that is performed in real time and exists in three dimensions. Don't be wary of seeing and hearing a production.

Candace, you're quite right. As a seasoned Shakespearean, sometimes I don't always know what I'm talking about, but it's worth researching. I'll give you an example and try not to ramble on too long. One line I've had to speak as Mark Antony used to bother me slightly. In his last speech, eulogizing Brutus he says 'His life was gentle'. Well, as I've read somewhere, 'gentle' people don't go around poking knives into people. It has only recently occurred to me that in Shakespeare's day, gentle meant 'noble'. Proper context indeed.

Hello! Thank you so much for these super helpful videos. I'm in the process of auditioning for musical theatre programs and was wondering if you're still doing Skype coaching. I reached out to you by e-mail to an address you had listed in a much older comment. Just want to make sure you're still using that one. :)

I agree. To me Alan Rickman will ALWAYS be the best HP actor (he's my favourite actor in the world ) but Kenneth Branagh is second. I loved what he said about the dueling club scene. "If you're across the platform from Alan Rickman and he's got a wand you've got to be very good to get noticed down at you're end."
