Love the Tumnus Deluxe. I've had it for a couple years and last week I sitting and playing with my phone on my knee. It slid off and landed straight down on the switch and broke it. Emailed Wampler and told them what happened with a few pics and wanted to know what it would take to get it fixed. They sent me 2 new switches with no hassle. Awesome customer service from these guys.

Can I just say thank you for making the Tumnus. It's such a simple yet powerful pedal. I use it going through my orange rocker and it's basically acts as my dirty channel. I have a ts9 after it that adds the mid hump I need for solo's. What blew my mind when I first started using the Tumnus was how powerful the volume knob is! It's so versatile with other pedals but just as a normal overdrive it sounds beautiful.
@austinfailz3 жыл бұрын
People think the Tumnus, Klon, Architect, Merman, etc. are transparent -- for those that do not know -- because of the way the drive / gain knob works. It is a dual gang pot, meaning it is essentially two pots in one (not a dual concentric knob). As you turn down the drive knob, the gain circuit is mixed out in favor of the clean signal. The drive portion of the signal is very mid range heavy, while the clean portion of the circuit is "transparent."
@scrummyvision9 ай бұрын
this is the most succinct description I've seen. I didn't know about the dual gang pot till I tried to build one. thank you.
@austinfailz9 ай бұрын
@@scrummyvision If memory serves, the circuits splits the signal into three sections: the 'clean' signal, the 'distortion/overdrive' signal (which is supposedly based on the DOD 250/MXR Dist+ circuit), and then the bass/low end is processed outside of that. The treble affects the signal and is patched in from the last opamp section. There is a Tube Screamer version from Maxon (more or less; the hard clipping overdrive section is a soft clipping Tube Screamer instead).

@Thatdadthang6 ай бұрын
I wouldn't dream of telling you anything about how you should run pedals or stack drives, but for me personally I run my Tumnus Deluxe at the end of my drive chain rather than at the front. I run my Tumnus in a typical Klon mode with gain at about 10:00 and level at about 2:00, and let the Tumnus spread its buttery goodness all over everything else. And I leave my Tumnus on all the time unless I am just looking for super clean sparkly tone. In front of the Tumnus I have a custom Tube Screamer and a Boss SD2. When I want a lot of crunch I turn on the SD2 and when I want distortion I turn on the TS turned way up on the gain. And when I want nasty I turn on all 3. I think the Tumnus Deluxe EQ gives me the best tone control which is why I put it last in the chain, and then when I discovered I just like to leave it on all the time it made sense for me to leave it there. Of course, since I don't have a Pantheon my options are a little different than yours. Thanks for the video. You make great pedals and have a wonderful way of teaching to boot. And that you know who Tumnus is makes me especially happy. :)

If you add a tube screamer or similar pedal to an amps dirty channel it tightens up. Keep gain on amp and pedal fairly low though.
@InGratitudeIam4 жыл бұрын
Another neat trick is to stick a delay pedal between the two distortion/overdrive pedals. You don't need to use much to realize a great tone. It's something that Carlos Santana is credited with doing.

Imo this is what makes stacking fun- I can take some of the drive pedals I have that have fixed parameters and no eq and run them through a pedal that has EQ, contour, presence, etc.- and totally change the sound. In fact, I have a few drive pedals I was going to get rid of because I didn't care for the way they sounded- until I ran them through a pedal that had the controls I wanted- now they sound amazing. The Rat for instance, not really my cup of tea- too muffled sounding, but you hit it with a midrange boost and keep the dist. turned way down- sounds great. It does a lot for my clean tone as well because I have all that eq ability built into my signal chain- just turn the drive pedals on and kill the gain. The only issue I run into sometimes- too many pre-amps. It can get a little aggravating sometimes when you have 3-4 different EQs in the chain to try and tweak.

I say this as often as often as i get a chance to, i built a Brian May style Treble Booster that sounds incredible and when i use it to boost the Klon Clone i also built its magic into my Marshall DSL100HR. The klon was just a pedal kit and one of the first kits i did and it sounds really great also. The warm/transparent tone of the klon works really great with the articulate high end/mid boost of the treble booster. I also added a tone selector switch to the treble booster and auditioned capacitors until i found the perfect ones for stock/treble boost, mid boost, and full range bass boost. But the Klon also sounds great being boosted by a normal TS9 for a more modern tone.
