Can the Tacoma technically tow these? On paper, sure…on flat ground. Once you head towards any sort of incline you’re going to wish you bought a half ton. I tow with a Nissan Frontier and have a small E Pro 15TB and that is the largest thing I would tow into the mountains around here.

I own a 2019 Tacoma TRD Sport with a 6ft bed. After driving 36k I think I have some domain experience when I say this....My Tacoma struggles with my OffGrid Trailer Expedition 2.0 It weighs in @ 3,500 lbs. The truck needs to be regeared and needs more torque. I made the easy decision to sell it and use my '05 Tundra with the 4.7 V8.....and it gets the same gas mileage and does it without a fuss.

Keystone-Would rather have a Murphy bed. Dining area with a slide out should have another window behind the seat. Cooking area should have a counter extension. Solar flex sounds interesting. These trailers may be technically towable with a Tacoma but you will be running 4-5 thousand RPM wide open in a heavy headwind. Going uphill? You will be getting 5-6mpg and barely hold 60mph. If you have heavy winds or winding roads the Tacoma is not heavy enough in the front end to feel stable. I own a Tacoma and a Keystone 189 with a dry weight of 4290LBS. Even with a properly set up Weight distribution hitch and adjusting the weight in the trailer for proper tongue weight It is too heavy to safely tow. Any evasive maneuver or heavy side wind will likely have you in the ditch. I also have a heavy gauge aluminum boat that weighs all in around 2000lb. The Tacoma pulls this decent.... but barely. Steep grades find me flooring the accelerator and running 4k RPM with average around 10MPG. Of course this is just my opinion and experience with my truck and trailers. Some don't mind running the little V6 ragged, not to mention the tiny ring and pinion and small rear axle/bearings etc. Looking for a smaller/lighter trailer or a bigger truck myself.
@RVBlogger2 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for sharing your experience. What's the year make and model of your Tacoma? Do you have the tow package? What is your vehicle's max tow capacity? I own a Tacoma too and haven't experienced any of these problems. Thank you for watching and commenting.
@Scablands_Scavenger2 жыл бұрын
@@RVBlogger I am glad to hear you have not had any issue towing these trailers with your Tacoma. Personally I have yet to see a Tacoma keeping up with traffic on the highway towing anything more than a small boat or popup trailer in my area. Maybe its the geography or a truck with 4.10 gearing makes all the difference. I suggest anyone looking to tow a trailer READ THEIR OWNERS MANUAL because the DOT and a lawyer will if you are involved in a major accident. Two of the trailers you show had single axles and are over 3000lbs, IIRC Toyota recommend tandem axles if trailer weight exceeds 3000lb (gen 2 at least). That should exclude them from the list. Without the FACTORY tow package for gen 2 Tacoma max trailer weight is capped at 3500lbs. My truck is a double cab v6 w/off road and tow package, stock tire size, and aftermarket rear helper springs. According to manual, unless I am reading it wrong, GCWR11160/TWR6480 (MINUS 20lbs for factory installed accessories) by model code, less than 100k miles on truck. My camp trailer is a Springdale 189 tandem axle with properly installed and adjusted weight distributing hitch dry weight and tested at 4290lbs. It seriously struggles and feels unsafe at highway speeds, especially with wind or hills. Both truck dealer and trailer salespeople have said should have "no trouble" towing 4-5k trailer (not that I believed them, never intended to tow trailer with this truck). I am not here to argue the point, I am thinking of the disappointment some of the ill-informed people are going to experience when they load up a new 4000lb (dry) trailer they purchased and the fear and panic that will set in when they try to merge onto a 70mph freeway with a full load and the rev limiter bouncing.

These are all well made and I like the fact that you can tow it with a small pickup…. Here’s a bit of a curve, how about towable rvs that can be pulled by a Toyota Prius V? Yeah, I know, it’s never been discussed before because the Prius line is for economy to not use gas and towing kinda ruins the mileage. But the Prius V is the biggest of the Prius line and I’m looking for a small, light weight trailer that’s not too cramped, and has a bathroom….. In looking at rvs, I found that the A-liner LXE fits the bill, but I’d like to see if there’s other options to see. I know that you’ve got lots to do, but it’s be awesome if you could look into this and see what a Prius V can tow.
@RVBlogger2 жыл бұрын
Hi Robert, The Prius V can only tow 1,600 lbs so the options are very limited...we also recommend never towing more than 80% of your vehicle's max tow capacity. You would have to find a trailer and add all of your gear and supplies and then weigh less than 80% of 1,600 lbs which is only 1,280 lbs max towable weight...cool idea though - and we sure appreciate it... Lots of the videos we make are from ideas from our viewers so keep the suggestions coming! Thanks! Mike

You got to be kidding. A Tacoma would tow under 3,000 lbs with no problem. I preferred a trailer short than 16 feet to be comfortable. My favorite would be Scamp, Casita, Winnebago Minnie.Amer-Lite.

Came here for info, instead getting a sales pitch. These are too heavy to comfortably tow on the interstate. I’ve towed coast to coast multiple times in my 2016 4door 5ft bed v6 with tow package “5600 max” doesn’t mean 5600 safely. I wouldn’t tow more than 4k lbs and still be able to safely merge, traverse hills, navigate hazards, etc.

@Erin-Thor2 жыл бұрын
Yes, they do. A quick search for handicapped accessible RV’s here on KZbin or on the internet will help. I have a friend who uses a wheelchair, their class A was ordered with a package that have them wider doorways, a lift, and a wide shower with almost no lip. I believe they added through a separate company aftermarket “ropes” with ceiling attachments to help him transition from bed to WC, WC to commode, and WC to shower seat on his own when needed. My point, there are options and companies that both manufacturer special needs RV’s, as well as aftermarket companies that will add mods as needed.

@@Erin-Thor thank you so much!!! I actually have a bone disease and my bones are weak. Another thing that scares me is bending over for the stability legs. Have you had any issues with that??? I know that they have automatic 1’s but I have only seen them on BIG campers. (Please don’t judge but I am claustrophobic and refuse to get MRI done on my back until I can’t stand it anymore). With only 2 in the family and my daughter is becoming a teenager she wants my instant 12 person tent; and I even struggle with that assembly. @@abbyfromkc652 - it’s all good. No bone issues yet, just pain and nerve damage, my right leg doesn’t do what I tell it sometimes. Had a minor back surgery and caught a spinal infection from it. While not claustrophobic, I can only imagine. Just remember that the only way (that I’m aware of) to see soft tissue damage is via an MRI. If you need one, just ask to be put under… it’s not that rare of an issue. And if it helps, I’ve had several and while they are uncomfortable for me because of back pain, not for any other reason, I had no safety issues, or other concerns. You can see space behind you (above your head as you’re lying down) and at your feet. While confining, I didn’t feel trapped. Hi i have a Chevy Colorado with the v6 rear wheel drive its the work truck it has the towing and trailer package a trailer or a truck camper as far is weight what do you think
@RVBlogger Жыл бұрын
Great question: the Chevy Colorado with the v6 and tow package can tow a max of 7,000 lbs. (2015 thru 2023) BUT we recommend you never tow more than 80% of your vehicles tow capacity so that is a max of 5,600 lbs. So I would look for a trailer around 4,000 lbs UVW so after you add all your gear, groceries, water and supplies you don't exceed 5,600 lbs. All the best and safe travels! Mike

I have a 2020 Hinda Ridgeline AWD, specs say max towable weight is 3500 lbs-5000lbs. What is the max weight travel trailer I should tow?
@RVBlogger4 ай бұрын
Hi Kenneth, You need to find the exact max tow capacity for your vehicle to be able to find the answer. Once you know your vehicles max tow capacity (which as an example we will assume is 5,000 lbs) you should only tow 80% of that weight. So 80% of 5,000 lbs equals 4,000 lbs. So you should find a camper that weighs around 3,000 lbs (UVW) so after you load up all your gear and supplies it weighs a total of 4,000 lbs. Hope that helps! Mike

None of those trailers are safely towable with a Tacoma in my opinion, my taco is rated for 6k pound maximum, while they are less than or about what the vehicle capacity, one should never tow to one’s vehicle maximum capacity. These should be towed with a half ton pick up.

Yea I have a Nissan Frontier and really try to stay around 2500lb or less maybe 2600.

I am ot sure a regular 1/2 ton would tow these.

My vehicle can tow 6,000 lbs but I'd rather have a gross weight of 4,500 - 5,000 lbs max b/c others would ride with me

Having many 1/2 ton trucks with GVWR at6000 to 7000 lbs. All these campers GVWR will max your towing capacity out. So that you won't be able to put much in your tow vehicle. Also towing control is greatly inhibited.
@RVBlogger2 жыл бұрын
We always recommend checking manufacturers specs and only towing 80% of your vehicles capacity. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Another dealership setting up idiots for disaster.. FTC will come down on these folks soon.. FTC is already putting new rules for car dealerships and will be looking at RV dealerships.. a Tacoma V6 with tow package I would not recomend towing as a rule half the speced GVWR or about 3,000 pounds.. anything above that you should get a bigger truck.
@RVBlogger2 жыл бұрын
Do you own a Tacoma? 3,000 lbs is a pretty low tow capacity for a truck. Thanks for watching and commenting.

I got rid of a 2017 Tacoma TRD. It would not tow a little tiny Casita. Don't lie these aren't designed to tow anything. The hill assist is a bad design . Has wrong rear end gearing to tow. Plus they are not comfortable. OK for young kids but I am 63 and got rid of it.

We are already 5000+ miles into our 5 month journey from California to Maine and back. We have a 2022 Tacoma 6 cyl SR5 4WD and it’s been awesome towing a Sunlite 18rd. We’ve been over 9000 ft passes in the Rockies and 7000 ft passes in the Sierras. BTW my wife and I are both 70 and are doing just fine. Even our Australian Cattle Dog is pleased.

@@SaveHawaiiReefs thank you for you feedback. I purchased a 2020 Tacoma TRD 4x4 Sport recently and can't wait to get a little something to tow. I am 50 and will be camping alone and you have giving me hope. Blessings to you, your wife and Cattle dog!😊

Hi mcse, Are you sure your Tacoma had the tow package installed? I've had my Tacoma since 2015 and it pulls great! And why would you call me a liar - that's pretty harsh. Do you actually think we just make videos and lie on purpose? Thanks, Mike

My 2012 Tacoma Double cab long bed towed 20’ Airstream with no problem. Maybe yours was lacking the tow package? I think “comfortable” is obviously subjective.

Dealer sponsored, the 2nd and 3rd are definitely to big and weigh to much for a tacoma.the1st is pushing it. Depending on which model , bed lenth,, engine, towing package. Dangerous video
@RVBlogger Жыл бұрын
Our videos are not dealer sponsored. But you are correct, not every Tacoma can tow up to 6,500lbs. We always tell people to know the tow capacity of their vehicle AND to only tow 80% of that tow capacity for safety. Thank you for watching our RV tour video and commenting.

Like everything in life, do you own research. RVBlogger is giving people good information and is doing so in a responsible manner. If you need to handheld through the process of pairing a vehicle and trailer, that's ok. Better to be safe... Nothing "dangerous" about this video!

@@RP-gi4ch They missed the most important part here - tongue weight. That is where the majority of Tacoma's will be out of the running for these trailers.
