I saved then left a decent job to take a year out so i could focus on improving on a certain skill. I was then hired by another company doing the same thing but was able to double my salary due to improving on that skill. This salary increse was due to taking that year out. If i carried on without taking that year out it would of taken me 5 years minimum to reach that same salary i have now. Plan, strategise and take calculated risks, most importantly make it your goal to consitently grow in your field - Everything elese will follow.
