I remember reading a Chinese myth with a similar theme when I was a kid. There was a village guy who always stuck his nose in other people's businesses until he came upon two gods playing a board game in a forest. Instead of leaving, he stuck around to watch them play. When the game was over, he returned to his village to find out that centuries had passed and when he asked one of the villagers, they told him about a man who went into the forest and never came back so nobody knew what happened to him. In this story, time passes by differently for elves since they are practically immortal.

The second story reminded me of the series "True Blood" when Sookie found out she was half fairy and was led to "Fairy Land" and found her grandfather. The fairies kept urging the humans to eat and drink because it made them forget about going home, and in the beginning of the next season Sookie(who was only with the fairies for a few minutes had discovered that in out time she had been gone for a year or 2 I think?
