As bad as murdering her own mom was, I think she did the right thing. If she did what you suggested, her mom would probably fight to break out of prison to mother her daughter again after she was imprisoned for murdering two people. The daughter wouldn't ever feel safe again, knowing that her crazy mom is trying to track her down. Or if somehow the duo played it off that the 2 murders were by someone else, then the daughter would be afraid for whenever her crazy mom would snap and kill her eventually. Plus foster care probably wouldn't be the best for the daughter since she witnessed the insanity of her mother, that people might avoid adopting her due to that fucked up past. So at least, how it went down, the daughter doesn't have to worry that her mom would be stalking her day in and day out.

I'm glad the first girl did the right thing and took accountability.. It wasn't self defense.. The mother hadn't directly threatened her.. She IS criminally culpable.. She WAS honest about that.. And maybe she honestly DOES prefer prison after seeing that. She definitely DOES have access to counselling and therapy there. Also women's prison isn't quite like men's.. They form family groups and whatnot. She would have a social life inside. I've heard many stories of female inmates having a better life inside than they ever had a chance of outside. Gypsy Blanchard is one example.
