I loved the part about the differences between opera and broadway, I was always much more subconsciously drawn to opera and had very little interest in singing broadway, and I think you just explained why my intuition make me like opera much more!

Good for you. You teacher is a fast thinker, obviously faster then me. I don't give qualification, before I check out all the components. For me it's one of the most enigmatic processes and proves to have great surprises. Now, Broadway tenor and Opera tenor are two entirely different voices e.g. Ultra lyric tenor(Broadway) may be a dramatic baritone(Opera) because when he realizes he need 3 times more power in Opera then in Broadway he may need a fach change in order to make his voice stronger

I believe I have chiaro-scuro from A2 to E4 but I can't sing these notes with chiaro-scuro with the larynx in the same position, and that if I do, I sing like a bari-tenor (only constricted chest voice). I can reach a F#4 without chiaro-scuro, tho. I think I have a baritone choir voice with a smaller low range notes.

there is another technique you didnt mention.....its questionable one but its like a controlled headvoice scream....even luciano pavarotti called it this....but lyrics and dramatics can use this to sing high C5 or higher. I had learned this technique to sing repeated high C5s.....but as lyric/Dramatic type voice you still feel a very important connection around the B4 and below. of coarse its not an audible exchange unless you make a rough landing haha.

@Flutistmom yes so true I agree. I started off singing Bass-Baritone and Baritone arias and a few roles, until I experienced the "Change" in my voice a month away from my 36th birthday. My voice teacher always told me that I would be experiencing the change in my voice, but I didn't believe her then! Amazingly, now I am retraining currently and my fach now where I'm heading towards is Dramatic Tenor rep.

Melocchi technique holds the voice on a high position. The resonance will be natural on the range of the voice type the singer has You, as a tenor, do not have to and do not need to project low notes so loudly
@tamirlyn Жыл бұрын
While I'd agree, it doesn't hurt either... Some tenors from my class, me included, sang bass/baritone choir lines and ended up with quite more power in the lower range as a result. I'd say it's useful to empower the bottom of the range as well.

This is so wrong I don't even know where to start! If you want to have the same vocal faults as this guy then he will teach you how. If you want to free your voice then you need to steer clear of this nonsense! Corelli had a few lessons with Melocchi and realised it was a voice wrecking technique. Del Monaco was just naturally gifted and therefore survived the vocal abuse that Melocchi inflicted upon him until the end of his career when it was quite evident that his voice was destroyed.

You've read or heard the basics but you are a perfect example of a singer with a constricted and pushed sound without any finesse who needs microphones. You've never developed the right muscles. Your breathing muscles are on holidays. "Full chiaro-scuro voices"? "appoggio?" You may fool ignorant amateurs but you are no real opera singer. I can understand that this is your passion (or your business) but you aren't able to show or teach the great tradition with proper examples because you aren't properly trained. You have a completely uneven and artificially darkened voice. No squillo no party.
