Hello! That depends on the word I'm afraid - there isn't a general rule. However, there are typical spelling patterns for all of the vowel sounds (with exceptions of course!). You can learn about each vowel sound and the typcial spelling in my videos in this playlist: kzbin.info/aero/PL2xSrncgBnNYqIKehOXtVxsYiYwuWE-UB

Thankkkks soo much mam ❤ i got the information i needed Just mam please i have one request, i am not getting one question, please answer me tomorrow is my exam The question is *divide the words syllable wise using hyphen to mark syllable boundaries and primary stress* Adjoin Amateur Absurd Alternative

Hello! I am sorry I only saw this now - I hope your test went well nevertheless! To answer your questions: you can simply look these words up in a dictionary. Look at the phonemic transcription of the word. The period marks show syllable boundaries, and the apostrophe shows which syllable has the primary stress. For example: amateur /ˈæm.ə.tər/ = 3 syllables (am - a - teur) = primary stress on the first syllable 'am' or 'absurd' /əbˈsɜːd/ = two syllables = primary stress on the last syllable (here you cannot see a period mark between the syllables because we also have an apostrophe) I have a video explaining the diacritic & supragementals in IPA - you can find it in my channel, just go to the search function :-)
