Literally we have poetry for literature lesson and we have to find the meter of the poem, and all the teacher said was the meter name depends on stressed and unstressed syllables. But I was like what is it and I started lagging behind the class. Now after watching this video I literally understand what it is, since you explained it so neatly, even with proper tone and pitch. Great job! This video really deserves more views and likes and teachers should use videos like this one to explain such things, instead of being so vague while explaining.

This is guiding in me in the right direction. I fully understand that syllables can be either stressed and unstressed. I’m just having trouble identifying if a syllable is stressed or unstressed. I hear I could look up the word in a dictionary and I could see if any syllables are stressed or unstressed
@TeacherDanFitz4 жыл бұрын
That's true. In some dictionaries there is an apostrophe after the stress syllable. Some dictionaries capitalize the letters in the stressed syllable.

You exhale for both stressed and unstressed syllables. The difference is that stressed syllables are louder, longer and higher. Unstressed syllables are quieter, shorter and lower. Also often the vowel sounds in unstressed syllables are reduced to /uh/ or /i/. Let me know if you would like to work on some pronunciation over skype.
