The harder I try to force myself out of a reading slump, the more I dread opening up a book and it gives me a lot of anxiety. Give yourself a break. Start a new tv series. I’m sure it’s extra difficult when you have a channel that centers around reading but I’d be totally interested in seeing, like… “Reading Slump Vlogs” or “What I’m Doing While in a Reading Slump”-type videos, haha. I tend to switch to short story anthologies for a bit when I don’t quite feel up to it. Or poetry. Something that I can digest in one sitting.

Totally agree with this comment, well said. If you’re slumping or burnt out on something (work, a hobby, a relationship even) it usually means a break or at the least a switch up is needed. That’s natural in the ebb and flow of things. The more people force something they’re resisting, the worse it usually gets, idgi. That being said, for me personally short stories, comic books, haiku, or childrens books are good ways to still enjoy literature if I’m not much in the mood for reading. Bite sized content. But it’s also just ok to not read for a while, try other things instead. Step back until you miss it, then doing it again will be all the more pleasurable. Tbh If my mind is too restless or bored by reading it’s typically because I usually need to be more in my body instead, go roller skating, take a walk, garden… At the end of the day though people are here for Noelle and her cool personality-I’d watch a video of hers on anything!

yeah i unfortunately feel i might have to take a break from reading but i have been doing a little personal 90 day reading challenge where i have to read a certain amount of pages each day it was to help me get back into reading and i have enjoyed it so much i love reading im on day 60 atm but starting to feel a bit unmotivated so think im getting a little burnt out but i dont want to ruin my 60 day streak 😢

saving you time tips: Don't force yourself to get through your tbr! It'll only burn you out more 1. romanticize/reorganize your reading space 2. switch up the genre or reread an old favorite 3. if you read a lot of physical books switch it up and listen to an audiobook and vice versa hope this helped

Romanticizing your space is such a perfect tip! Sometimes I need to set up the right vibe to really get back into reading. I also find that immersion reading helps me. There is something about listening to the audio while reading along physically that keeps me focused. Watching Booktube is my number one tip for getting out of a slump. Seeing other people excited about reading gets me excited again!

When I’m in a slump I don’t watch any book content anywhere (KZbin,Instagram, and tik tok) because it makes me feel bad that I’m not reading, BUT I found out that when I get over that mindset every single time I’m in a slump and decide to watch book content it actually makes me wanna start to read. Watching people be so obsessed with books and sharing the thoughts they have on it makes me excited to also feel that about books.

Short books! The kick of finishing a book so quickly can sometimes hook me back into reading. Also top tip, if the slump feels like avoidance (aka procrastination) STOP and see if it’s either Scary, Tedious, Overwhelming or if you’re putting Pressure on yourself. Then work from there to adjust things for yourself! Applies to any procrastination (which ISN’T laziness, it’s avoidance, and we avoid things usually for a seemingly good/well intentioned reason!)

I always try to do 1 of 3 things... 1) Re-read a favorite. I sometimes find that it gets me back in the reading mood so I can move on. 2) Listen to an audiobook. It's easier to have something read to me while I'm doing things than get motivated to find/make time to physically read. 3) Simply take time off. Sometimes we just need a break. There is too much content out there to consume and we can't do it all. If you are in the mood to not read and instead catch up on tv, do that. Maybe what you watch will motivate you to read a book that is similar to a tv show or movie?

I think changing the form can also help - so if you’ve been reading a lot of novels, trying to read a play or a poetry collection can make it feel like a different experience and it’s a nice way to break it up when you’re in a reading slump😊

I find it helpful to read shortish books when I'm in a slump. You don't feel like you're making a big commitment by starting it and it doesn't take very long to finish ☺️ I also love rereading old favourites though 🌼

My tip is to dnf relentlessly. You can come back to the book later but I will start and stop like 10 books in a row until I find one that holds my attention well

Graphic novels and manga usually help me, still a story but fewer words to ingest. Also the silliest lightest rom-com I can find can get me through. Changing my physical location, somewhere without my usual distractions also helps.

Sometimes I like to watch the movie of a book I want to read. It just takes a couple hours and usually gets me excited to read the book! 🖤📚

I’ve just got out of a 5 month reading slump due to the change in seasons! I’m a giant mood reader and as soon as it started to feel Autumnal I wanted nothing more than to sit down with a cosy book and the perfect one came into my hand at the perfect time. Honestly, I dare you not to devour Legends and Lattes this time of year it’s the perfect fit ❤️❤️

something that has really helped me recently is knowing i can always pick up a book and not finish it if i dont want to. i have a huge tbr so theres always something to start next! as long as im exercising my brain by reading its all good :)

I like to pick up a short audiobook! Something under the 4 hour mark. Sorta like testing the waters reminding me why I love reading. It feels like it gives me that endorphin kick of finishing a book without throwing me head first into something super long/intense that I’m not ready to pay attention too.

Number one thing that helps me get out of a reading slump is graphic novels. Just interspersing a few here and there throughout my other reads really helps the momentum going and they are perfect palate cleansers.

One thing I usually do when I try to romanticize my reading session is to put on a "read with me" video on youtube. It really helps with the cozy vibe and it almost feels like a reading date at home. Love it! xx

What I like to do is look through my tbr and pick books that I am in the mood. So at the beginning of the month I put together a short tbr or some thrillers, mysteries, and horror books I’ve meaning to read. That way I don’t feel so overwhelmed when I finish, and I have a short tbr that I’m excited about. Another tip would be to read several books at the same time. I know it sounds confusing but hear me out. I found that what works for me is if I read two completely types of books. For example I’ve been reading ‘I am glad my moms died’ and ‘the final girl support group’. A memoir and a thriller so I don’t get confused.

TIPS for getting out of a slump: 1) Temporarily deleting social apps helps me a lot to lower my screen time & up my reading time. 2) Pick a smaller book- from a genre you haven’t read in awhile that you love 3) Do some house/work chores first to feel accomplished and then read after- so that reading feels like a treat or reward 4) Take some time off of reading (for even a week or more) & get outside if you can- helps me feel more grounded and recharged 🌳 5) Read a memoir or adventure/travel book- exciting non-fiction can really pull me out of a reading slump 🤘🏼 6) Read a book that has a good movie adaptation… then watch the movie as soon as you finish the book. This is a big exciting motivator for me for some reason lol. I guess I love movies too 🙃

Completely support the break pre-tip. If the need to scratch the itch of reading is more overwhelming, I recommend: 1. A children's book, same sentiment as a re-read. 2. Change of format, physical book (hard/paperback), kindle, audiobook. 3. Listening/watching bookish content.

1. Allow yourself to DNF books if you aren’t feeling them. 2. Read non-fiction on a subject you find interesting. 3. Teen fic flies by. 4. Read in bursts rather than a long session. Takes the pressure off if you are only planning to read for ten minutes. 5. StoryGraph stats / monthly page count goals.

Sometimes I just reread easy things like adorable kids' books that are simple but fun or comic books I find funny. Just to bring fun and humor back into reading, especially if I have been reading really serious books. Sometimes I will read a "trashy" book that's not really trashy, but it's like junk food to spice things up and be different. It takes me out of the element of the books I usually read because it's vastly different. Also, it makes things fun and silly again. Or pick a book at random from my giant TBR list to try and mix things up and not read the same thing over and over. I also like to mix up the way I read a book, like having something on a physical copy,, also audio, and kindle. So that I'm mixing up the way I take in the story and trying to break out of the repetitive. Read a few chapters of several different books, and then go with whatever strikes my fancy.

I try to change up genres to break up the types of books I'm reading. I also read every day. On Bookly, my goal is to read 2 hours each day, but when I get in a slump, I try not to worry about that daily goal, but I still read every day even if it's just for 15 minutes. I like your suggestion of re-reading a favorite book.

I'm late in responding to this but I just rewatched it. To add to the reorganizing your space is buy a new , cute reading lamp. Or buy new bookmark or some kind of book accessory. Maybe a new blanket. If you have time or trouble starting next book in TBR try a cozy mystery that revolves around something you like. Cozy mysteries have suspense, romance, funny, touching, predictable in format while still surprising at times. Fast reads most times especially if you choose a book in coffee shop, because you love coffee or B&B because you'll be going to one or by the coast. There's ton of ones around baking. Even if you don't bake but love to eat desert these can be deliciously fun. With cozy mysteries you can read just 1st one or read other stuff in between series and every time you return it's like visiting an old friend ❤️ Blessings 💕

Definitely recommend picking up a short book, like a novella or a short story collection, because it gives me the sense of accomplishment that helps me get the momentum again. Also sometimes, allow yourself a re-read, sometimes I get so caught up in feeling like I have to read new books but sometimes things that are familiar helps more!

[EDIT: I wrote this before watching the whole vid so I didn’t realize she mentioned romanticizing in the video lol] THIS IS PERFECT TIMING! I have been in a reading slump for the past 3 weeks and it has been driving me mad! I get on my phone or watch a movie and even though the book I’m reading right now is GREAT, I just can’t get myself to pick it up. My biggest tip on getting out of a reading slump romanticizing it, it’s the only way I can get out of them normally. I put down my phone and act like I’m in like older times and I make a cup of tea and turn on dimmer lighting and candles and music and I force myself to read it makes it a lot more fun when I romanticize it lol

Honestly, usually it’s a series that gets me out of a reading slump… because you can just binge read and get more to a story (i guess?!)! So it really gets me back on the reading train! Also, every so often, watching a tbr video gets me excited again and can actually get me out of the slump.

Somehow I got here from 'Planttube" binge watching, however I do love reading and have been in slumps where I didn't read anything for awhile. One thing that helps me get back into reading is going to another place to read, like a park or library. I also going somewhere very quite, where I am not distracted by other things that I would rather do. Also reading a comic book or manga with help me get into reading again!. Great video!! 💚

I like to create a cozy reading space when I’m in a slump. Turn on some ambient music, light a candle, get a reading snack and drink ready, and set my phone to Focus Keeper app or Forest App for 30 minutes, and read. Sometimes it takes me a little bit to enjoy my time reading, but after those 30 minutes are up I can decide whether I want to continue reading or stop for the day. Usually I want to keep reading after those 30 minutes are up, but if I don’t, then I stop and that’s okay💛

Agree whole heartedly with taking a break and not forcing things and creating a date with yourself and a book (and a mug of tea maybe? Blanket?). I like to set personal reading projects that keep me excited or have a deadline (my book club makes sure I read at least 1 book a month). I also like to give myself permission to take my time with a book and honor that book. Some books I can’t read for more than an hour at a time or they’re slower paced. If I still want to read it, I just tell myself “this is one I’ll slowly chip away at for however long it takes” so I don’t feel like I need to finish in a week or read 100 pages in one sitting. I also like to pair books that are different paces or genres together to keep variety. And finally, I love talking to my husband about what I’m reading! If I’m struggling with a book or loving a book or thinking about a book, it’s fun to debrief what I’m liking or what’s challenging, why a book is tougher for me, or what’s coming up for me with the book. Processing my thoughts about that book or the experience of reading it helps me figure out what I need.

When I’m in a slump, I honor that for a minute. Some ways to get back into reading when I think I’m ready for it are: (a) read graphic novels, (b) read magazines and journals on topics of interest, (c) read short but good books, and (d) listen 🎧 to audiobooks. Sometimes binge listening to my favorite book podcasts, like The Modern Mrs. Darcy, really inspires me to explore new books in genres I might not normally select.

I totally agree with the tips you have here! The only thing I’ll add is that when I am really burned out from life and stressed, it actually helps me to schedule reading time because I may not want to read or I may feel like I’m in a reading slump but it actually helps me to relax and destress to read. So, dedicating like an hour in the morning on Saturday where I have it scheduled that I’m going to read with my coffee and talk to no people and do no things , really helps my mental health for the rest of the week even if that’s only time I read that week even if I am in a reading slump.

My tip is always have something that is on loan you’re really looking forward to regardless of the subject matter. I was running through book after book and after having to force myself to finish my last book I just couldn’t even get into anything else. I had been on a waitlist for a book for like 12 weeks through the library. Once it came available I jumped on it because I knew I had been waiting for this and you only have so long to get through it. Now that I’ve finished it I’m hungry for the next one. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, and that includes hobbies you love. Hope this helps! Love your videos!

In addition to reading a short book and/or re-reading a favorite, I find that reading a YA book helps, or just something that you know will be easy to read. And putting all three together really helps - re-read a short YA favorite. Also, reading a book with short chapters, even if the book overall isn't short, really helps because you get a sense of accomplishment after every chapter that makes you want to keep reading. This last tip may be a personal preference, but I find it easier to get out of a reading slump with books that are more plot-driven - anything that makes you want to keep turning the page.

Graphic novels! Something about the serotonin of finishing a book quick can kick my brain back into gear and get me excited to read again. I recommend anything by Tillie Walden and I think you might like Ballad for Sophie by Filipe Melo.

Was on a reading slump for like the half of 2022. But got out of it after reading Modern Love. I think it has something to do with it being an easy read. It’s composed of little essays so it’s easy to get through + it’s super fun to read, it’s light and sweet. But all through out the reading slump i try to start a book when i feel like it and gave myself the freedom to drop it anytime it bores me. No pressure!

I just finally started a booktube channel after thinking about it for over two years, and the main reason for the delay is reading slumps. I felt like I either had to be reading 10 books a month or I might as well not read at all (which obviously couldn’t be further from the truth.) Obviously it can be hard with school, but it’s so so so important to take that pressure away from it. As I always say, look at what you did do, rather than focus on what you didn’t. You’re doing great ❤️

i’ve been reading WAY more this year than previous years, and i think it’s because i have been keeping both a new book and a favorite book in my rotation at all times. i personally am always more likely to want to pick up a book i’ve read before and it helps me keep the momentum going during periods where i’m reading less!

When I get into a reading slump I try to watch a lot of content on books, your videos as a example. Listening to people talk and talk about a new read, a favorite book, a good gene gives me nostalgia about my love for books and that really helps

Watching bookish content has always been my favorite way to get out of a reading slump, but other things that have worked for me are: 1.) Leaving my house to read and having a treat with me. I'll either read at a coffee shop, make tea and go to the park, or pick up a pastry and read at the lake 2.) I keep track of everything related to my reading on Notion. When I'm in a reading slump, I like to change things up on my Notion by adding new pictures, moving things around, and updating my tbr. I recommend using Notion or any other online platform like that if you've ever wanted to book journal but felt like you aren't "artsy" enough, or just don't have the time to commit to handmaking journal entries 3.)This may sound a little odd, but I feel like if I just look at books long enough, it makes me want to read them. If my own shelves don't do it (they usually do) then looking up cute home libraries on Pinterest usually does the trick 4.) Speaking of Pinterest, having a board dedicated to reading/bookish things is a lot of fun and gets me in the mood to read 5.) If I'm in a book slump because I'm under a lot of stress for whatever reason, I like to dedicate a day to just taking care of myself. I'm talking face mask, hair mask, painting my nails, going for a walk, meditating, spending time in nature, giving myself a tarot reading, cooking something nutritious. Usually a good day of destressing gets me back on track. I hope these help!!

Love the ideas! I am a moderator for 2 book clubs and encounter the same problem on occasion. I find what breaks it up for me is, if it is possible, read to someone or be read to. I also have members who are not comfortable yet being in person so I talk to them on the phone. I might be the only one they have talked to all day so that reminds me how much I love to read and to be there for them. The last one may sound crazy, but, if you have access to your library, just go without taking anything out. Not easy I know, but just appreciate how lucky we all are to have them in our lives and how blessed we are to be readers and love reading and share with others. I also just sometimes take a book out based on how the spine looks without knowing anything about it! Since I found you and this community, it has also refueled me when my batteries are running low so to speak, and need to get out of a slump. I always look forward to discovering something new with all of you, so thank you!

I am in SUCH a reading slump (this year tbh) I love the romanticizing your space tip! The fact that it is autumn is making me feel the itch to read something spooky and I haven't had this feeling in a while!

Hey Noelle, i know you’re in a reading slump rn but i noticed you’ve been reading and wanting to read a lot of memoirs lately. I want to recommend a great one i read called The Argonauts by Maggie Nelson, it’s only about 180 pages and it explores a lot of interesting ideas around language, queer families, pregnancy and identity in a complex yet compelling and accessible way. It made me cry and i loved it but i haven’t seen anyone read it on booktube !

i have such a hard time reading in a dirty space !! cleaning up, making a cup of tea, putting on some lofi music is so helpful to sink into a good book !! i also find it very helpful to look at youtube reading recs !! if i wanna read a specific type of book but don’t have any that fit that genre, i’ll look up “lgbtq reading recs” for example and i always find something that makes me excited to read :))

Another thing that helped was listening to a favorite but while doing something I don't usually so. I cleaned our washer and dryer and the rest of the basement which I haven't done since we moved into our house. I was excited about cleaning a new space while listening to a book I already love.

Go to Goodreads, sort your TBR by Date Added, read the book that's sat on your TBR the longest... especially if it's been something like 15 years. Getting past a hurdle like that can sometimes be the little boost you need. (next, reverse, read the most recent book you added.... so on, so forth. At least this is what I'm doing.)

1. My reading journal! I use it to record my favorite quotes and moments, and I'll write reflections after I've finished a book that I really enjoyed. I'm able to look back through my favorite reads and remember why I liked a book, and what specifically stood out to me. This process makes me feel more connected to the books I'm reading! 2. Reading out loud (if possible). This helps with my focus, it makes the act of reading more of a sensory experience. I'm vocalizing the words, hearing them, and seeing them while I read. This is especially helpful with academic reading!

one thing that helps me is trying to find something short and easy to read, and then setting up VERY low goals for reading. i'll literally make one page a day my goal, just to kind of sit myself down and pick up a book

Rereading a favorite book helps me most of the time. When I get into a reading slump I feel overwhelmed so sometimes I just need a break as well and then find something I’m really excited about

This is more preventative, but with being a mood reader I try to have a few books I am reading at the same time that are different genres/vibes. This has really helped me from getting into a slump. However, when I am in one I just acknowledge it, and don’t force myself to read and engage in my other hobbies. Book-tube though really helps reignite my desire to read. Just hearing someone be passionate about a book can help me get in the mood again. ❤️

1. Watching you get excited about a book. My number 1 tip. 2. Using ambiance options on KZbin helps set the vibe SO MUCH! 3. Asking a friend to buddy read helps hold me accountable. 4. Book tok 🤷🏼‍♀️

I like throwing in a few comics or graphic novels to break up the flow and refresh my reading energy. the pictures make it more like watching a movie with subtitles instead of just tons of words on pages in my books

I'm definitely feeling the burnout atm 😥 I'm trying to push through because I'm in the middle of projects and things but I definitely agree with your first tip to just take a break if you can! Loved all your other tips. Those are pretty much mine as well. I would add reorganizing your shelves. Sometimes just handling my books and giving my shelves a new look gets me excited to pick something up. I also find mood reading helpful. I usually don't, I'm a planner and a tbr maker by nature. Mood reading feels overwhelming for me most of the time. But sometimes just browsing my shelves or going to the library and picking up something at random that strikes my fancy really helps!

Usually I either take time off, or find a book am REALLY exited to read. And I found out that I love watching yt, TikTok’s ++ on books and reading, and it makes me feel like reading myself. ❤️

Great tips Noelle ! Here are mine to get out of a reading slump (1) read a fav author or from my fav genre (2) schedule a reading time which doesn’t feel taxing , say 30 min each day (3) read short books or short stories (4) watch book tube which motivates me to pick up a book again.

I get overwhelmed knowing that I have a large tbr to go through too! Lately I’ve been busy studying so I don’t have as much time to read, but I try to pick it up right before bed or right when I wake up. It doesn’t always happen ahah. I just remind myself that there is no need to rush through it because it supposed to be fun hobby. I’m also not watching new book reviews… I’ll be pressed to read more when I have to prioritize studying 😂

I usually just stop reading for however long it takes, as for coming back to reading I rely on short stories, last october Rebecca Lloyd's spooky stories did it for me and I started reading now and then after a very, very long pause. If I feel like immersing myself for a bit longer, I read a random Nobel prize winners book so I'm sure that it can't possibly suck THAT much, but when I feel like a book has given me enough of a certain atmosphere, I put it aside and appeal to the second and third points of the Reader's Bill of Rights ie the right to skip pages and the right not to finish. Works for me

hi noelle i love your channel i dont want to be one thoose annoying people who claim their always reading and their. so smart and anyone who doesn't read everyday isn't a reader. cause i don't think that. but thankfully I've never been in a reading slump due to reasons i dont want to disclose 😂 enthusiasm booster tips/reading slump tips - find a movie you love and read the book - if you annotate your books at all stop doing it literally just find a book that you can just love just because rather than loving it for more academic purposes ( i study eng lit i know this helps first hand) - create a classical music list to go with the vibe of a book your reading - discuss a book you love with a friend - sometimes reading is lonely read with a friend - whatever you read for school pick a book the exact opposite of it, to balance out your reading - go to your favourite classic and read the introduction it's really inspiring

I hit a slump at the end of September. I think switching genres definitely helped, but I also took a few days to just watch a comfort tv show. And I listened to some good audiobooks while I was cleaning/driving so that helped to keep me going.

I annotate books for fun so if I’m ever feeling slumpy I’ll flip through an already annotated book and read a couple things I’ve highlighted or tagged just to get my reading dopamine back up - flipping through a well loved book inspires me to read something else that I know I’m going to love just as much

Love the tips Noelle! Just taking some time out and switching between audio and physical book really resonate with me. Don’t worry about rushing back into a reading mood - trust that you always will be a reader and the mood will always come back 😁 Another tip that I find helpful is to be really intentional and thoughtful with the book you do decide to read when stepping back into it. Put aside feelings of obligation for a book club pick, or a recent release that you think you should be up to date with - and instead just listen to what you actually feel like reading, something that’s been on your shelf or TBR for a while, or maybe it’s an intentional genre shift if you’re burned out from one specific genre.

Along the lines of taking a step back, I find taking up a new hobby is a great way to reset my mind and get motivated in reading again. Not an instant fix and probably doesn’t help if you have a reading deadline, but if you have two weeks to try something new and then get back to reading, that always helps me. 😊

i just graduated with my master's degree and i couldn't wait to be done to finally start reading again and of course, I couldn't. I'm still so overwhelmed that reading makes me anxious and tired. what helps/my tips: (1) audiobooks, (2) short books - found a thread on twitter of books under 100 pages and it made me feel so accomplished when I read two books in two days, (3) rereading old favorites and (4) reading fanfiction. for the last one - some fics are even on goodreads and they totally count for your yearly goal :D

I like to pick up a novella or something really short like a graphic novel. I find that sometimes just the act of reading something quickly is helpful. I also find that doing buddy reads makes it more fun which also gets me out of that slump. Being able to chit chat with a friend about a book we are reading today can be exciting. Also ambience can be so helpful (as you said).

My tips are to just say to yourself that you only need to read a chapter, takes the pressure off. Another good tip is to read and listen or just listen to an audiobook for a while. Another is to watch booktubers, my favourites are yourself and Gabbyreads your excitement over a five star book gets me really wanting to read it. Another is to paint a room and listen to an audiobook at the same time, I listened to a couple of Liane Moriarty novels doing that, watching paint dry isn’t exciting so a good book helps the monotony. It is a win win too!

I am also a graduate student. I read a lot of books that I have to read on a schedule. I set time or chapter goals with rewards. I’ll set a timer for 30 minutes and read until it goes off and then do something I really want to for the same amount of time. Back and forth. It’s been working. Sometimes you just have to not take it so seriously also. All the tabbing and overthinking makes reading arduous. Good luck you are almost done!!

I feel like so much of my life is consumed by bookish content that sometimes I have to back away. For me that means not watching booktube videos. Not writing reviews. Not updating any reading sites. Not adding things in my reading journal. Not looking into new releases. I do that for a few days and it usually helps. If I'm able to, I give myself a break from reading. That can be for a few days or a few hours. Just getting away from books and focusing on something that's not in the realm of reading helps. I'll play video games, watch a movie, make dinner, or sleep. If it's something that I need to read I reward myself with little things in between tasks. So if there's a book or graphic novel I have to read for a specific reason that I'm just not up for reading I'll read do something I actually want to do between chapters. That's usually an audiobook I'm interested it, so one chapter of the book I have to read, one chapter of the book I want to read. I set timers on the audiobooks so I can't tell myself "oh the next chapter started, I should finish it right now!" Swapping back and forth makes my brain go "ohh, I want to know what happens next, let me finish this thing I don't want to do faster" And if it's not bookish things then it's "I'll beat this level of this game then get back to reading" Or I'll pair it with a task I don't want to do so I focus more on reading "Ugh, I don't want to clean the bathroom, so let me procrastinate on this thing I *really* don't want to do by doing this thing I kind of don't want to do"

I also like to find a book club that's reading a book I'm interested in or even buddy reading a book. Sometimes I find that being able to discuss the book with others gets me enthused.

Sorry if I repeat stuff in the video but I'm just listing stuff that I do: 1. Read a different genre from your usual. 2. Utilize reading sprints. Search on KZbin for reading sprints. They don't have to be live sprints. Find an old video and use that, or do sprints yourself with a timer. 3. Re-read an old favorite book that you've read 100 times before and you already know everything that happens. 4. Find a short book (250 pages or less) or a children's book or a picture book, etc. Sometimes the act of finishing a book may give you the motivation to read again. 5. Listen to an audiobook. 6. Most important for me to get out of a slump: If you are NOT enjoying the book you are reading, and you have the option, DNF THE BOOK. Trying to slog through a book you're hating is just going to put you further into a slump.

when I'm in a reading slump I tend to listen to books instead, cuz then I can do other stuff so I can enjoy the audio while still getting through books. I also feel like listening to books usually sparks my love for reading again.

Personally, I need a balance in my intake of media/stories/visuals. So if I'm in a reading slump, I generally try to watch a few movies or episodes to take my attention away from the stack of books and still be able to indulge in a storyline of some sort. Also, tending to another hobby or interest to keep myself busy helps sometimes! I got really into balcony gardening this summer and it was the perfect way to spend my time when not reading or working. Eventually, doing anything other than our favorite past time will be enough time away to desire it again. good luck!!
