How did you get your last screenplay read by a Hollywood producer?

lol, I love when they have on these guys in their mid-60s telling us how they did it back in the 90s. My screenwriting professor and mentor told me that he and his partner could walk into any studio in the late 80s with a good pitch and walk out with a greenlight. Those days are long since dead. Tech Bros. run Hollywood now and nobody has the authority to greenlight anything. It is amazing how anything gets made anymore.

And when a film is made these days, they are inundated with the worst directing, editing, and performances I have ever seen !! I rarely go out to movies in 25 years ! 🤮

That's all good and all but we still need to have a polished draft of the screenplay that you can show to people 😂

chisel this into your consciousness: it is, was, and always will be 'who you know'.

It´s harder now, since back then you had a few hundred competitors per person in the state and your time and effort to contact them had a good chance of success. Now with thousands a day since it´s so easy to send an email or so on, the chance without a connection seem more than dismal. Now you compete against the world. Jobs, dating, ... where all local against other mostly local people.

I think his advice is even more relevant now for the exact reasons you've mentioned. It's so easy to send an email so that producers are probably inundated with emails so a phone call and sending a script via snail mail are much rarer events now so by just doing that you're standing out from the rest.

@@Leo-sd3jtexactly! It’s kind of like any job. If it’s highly coveted, you gotta find ways to stand out.

1:50 I think Bill's referring to the Hollywood Screenwriting Directory. I think they stopped publishing it a few years ago. Everything's on IMDB Pro now.

Love you guys, but this video truly deserves the "cool story bro" meme. Nothing applies to today's industry.
