For cross-scene timers (7:20) where you wish to mitigate extreme values on the roll, a smart alternative to a D8 is 2D4 (displayed on-screen on a D8), which can never roll a 1 and has a most likely value of 5 that is four times as likely as the least common values, 2 and 8.

Great video, K! What I feel is that when GMs start using timers there's a temptation to always tie them to something extremely dangerous, high damage, whatever. I certainly did that in the beginning and it was a mistake... Timers can be so much more! Man, I LOVE timers. I love how they can be anything. In our last session, a timer represented how long the PCs had to loot a room before a flooding forced them to flee - no checks or anything, they just had to leave. In another game, it was the limit of patience a NPC had to be convinced to help before leaving. And in another, it was how many Rounds before the dragon awakes. I also have a World Timer in a campaign that counts from 12 to the apocalypse - but characters can add 1-4 to the timer when they are successful in their adventures. They recently noticed their actions can't stop the timer from reaching zero unless they make some serious progress towards the final villain...

Oh, the number of dull moments at the table I could have been saved from if my friends and I had been using timers! They're so good! And work even on larger time scales. X timer is a number of days you spend recuperating in town; each day each PC gets to pursue one activity. BOOM! Keeps it moving. In 4 hours the space rangers' transmission issuing a warrant for your arrest will be received by the station. What will you do in that time? It's so good!

I personally don't see much difference between mitigating the result timer value and fudging it. To me this begs the question: what even is fudging? The only difference I see between your suggestion and "fudging" is making a call in advance of the timer roll and sticking to it. I'm my opinion there's nothing wrong with deciding the timer will be 3 and not rolling at all. Edit: I see that later in the video you discussed setting a timer. Sometimes it can be more interesting and easier to decide in the moment (aka fudging) how to handle a particular timer value

In my opinion the timers in the 3T's and the Disruption from 3D's should only be in situation are deem necessary but rarely use unless if your running a horror campaign.
