I play roller hockey and you cant check in it so what should I do instead?

Drives me nuts having team-mates that just coast around as forwards without the puck. Makes for a shitty game and so many fewer scoring opportunities.

I'm always interesting in chatting with coaches and learning what their team needs in terms of training and development so I can keep creating content. If you are interested in having a quick call, shoot me an email coach (at) 247hockey (dot) com.

Even in a so-called non-contact game, I attack a puck carrier directly as they're coming up the ice....as if I might hit them. It forces them to have to move the puck pretty fast. Yes, there is the risk of a collision...but this is the risk of the game. It works to make them cough up the puck very very quickly. They are forced to take evasive action immediately. I agree that real forechecking needs to happen with 2 or 3 forwards, in order to normally create turnovers and get scoring opportunities. It's a team game. The lazy person is NOT supporting his team.

Wow... I never thought of it in those terms. I'll be sharing this philosophy with my team this week. Thanks Zac.

You bet!

How about switching stick positions quickly...fake the puck carrier out by making him think that his passing lane is open just because your stick is covering a different passing lane... then quickly switch positions of the stick to get in a different passing lane. I've gotten many interceptions all by myself this way.

That's a great option. More advanced & risky but works great when you pull it off.

Love all your videos and am I am improving because of it, and hey at 61 yrs old how many things can I actually improve at so thanks. 1 little note. In my league 1: there is no checking and even stick cheking is a little limited. 2: the age rage is mid 30s to 70s and some players amatuers and others ex-semi-pro. I find that I cant take out the player physically and if I commit too soon that opens up the chance to deek around, given the age diference an experienced 35 year has a speed advantage over my 61 years. . So often I try to put onthe pressure and make minor threats (like a deek-threat amke them think I have committed or like an Hitchcock bird pecking away) but am really waiting for them to make a mistake. I am trying to play their hubirs or arragance

How do you counter this move if someone is using this move against you
@RobertZiegler11 Жыл бұрын
are you talking about all three zones?
@CoachZac Жыл бұрын
100% all 3 zones for sure. No player should run around like a crazy person and not think, need to be under control, angling, etc... Especially in the D-zone when that player has full possession. But STILL want to pressure the puck and take away time and space. Biggest mistake is players watch and coast, then the puck carrier has plenty of time to make a great play and feels NO pressure.
@saxtonsaxtons81237 жыл бұрын
Would another way be to call for an opponents pass
@CoachZac7 жыл бұрын
That's not going to work consistently. Need to learn the right way to create turnovers and then throw this in there once in a while to catch the puck carrier off guard.
