There's been a rise in interest in "Dragon's Teeth" anti-tank barriers since the Russians started constructing them as part of highly visible defense lines in their temporarily occupied territory in Ukraine. Previously, during World War 2 they were an easily recognized feature of the Germans "Siegfried Line" fortifications built on Germany's Western border with France, a response to the Maginot Line. Although fearsome in appearance, they proved to be easily surmountable as demonstrated by the 23rd Engineers of the 3rd Armored Division in the Fall of 1944. No doubt the flimsy "Teeth" the Russians are distributing will be easily overcome by the resourceful Ukrainians. #NAFO
This film is from raw, unedited footage from the National Archives. I put selected scenes together to tell this story & added additional sound effects from Sherman tanks for a bit of realism.

All these obstacles would have "overwatch." However you to try to breech them, you are going to come under intense fire from enemy artillery.

Just as a side note. Is it really practical for combat engineers to be lugging around Garands?🤔 isn't this what we designed the carbine for?
@SoltyII
@SoltyII Жыл бұрын
I think, it was kind off practical due to the ammunition availability. Carabines went to specialised units like Airborne / Rangers (outside of normal logistical chain) or to truck drivers who rarely fired their weapons and didn't need constant resuply. Combat Engineers can be partaking in normal combat operations and need steady ammunition supply. 30.06 is going to be available usually in such situations. At least that's how I understand it.

Blowing would work provided they are not reinforced and deeply embedded. Burying the dragon's teeth is something I've always suspected was the best way to get over these. It would seem that dump truck loads of dirt is all that’s needed to defeat them. Simply cover them with earth and drive over them.

Makes you think how many men he ordered to build these in great lengths, either all, if they can be easily countered. It still bided their time.. imagine the adrenaline of the soldiers getting ready to get into the country to then be halted by these… can tell they’d be pissed off by the inconvenience 😅

The sad facts people failed to recognized is this is happening in WW2 and the removal of of the Dragon Teeth were either done out of conflict engagement, needs explosive need heavy machinery and takes time, shit times of all of it which is practically what the Ukrainians doesn't have when launching a counter offensive. There are even people in Ukraine now who even think twice about popping their head out in a trench in the heat of battle and people are comparing it to the 1944 video of soldiers taking their own time arming explosive walking around like taking stroll removing obstacle in an area where enemy has been cleared off.

@BingoPaletot

You only need to cross them in some places. Removing them all takes time but isn't necessary in the short term. Russia cannot control its borders, much less can it control the total width of the rows of dragon's teeth.

@@rizkyadiyanto7922 That's if you still have enough men and materiel, which Russia has not - the very reason they rely on static defenses in the first place. Lines of dragon teeth still stand on Germany's western border to this day. Useless they are, young Jedi.
