I’ve just started my journey with glass foiling and lead glass. It’s super addictive and yet I’m at the frustrated stage as I don’t know enough yet. I’ve been so engrossed with your videos. It’s so helpful to see how challenges are approached. I

You can do it Kandy. Just take it slow and be prepared to make mistakes that you learn from. Good luck

It's best if you NEVER have to use these particular tips Peggy... but we all have unsightly gaps sometimes, let's be honest :-)

Thank you for the helpful video. I’m looking for a video of how to add a hinge between two panes of glass and a lock to turn it into a locket. I would be grateful if you could help. Thank You 🙏🏻

You could try searching in KZbin? I don't have a video for this at the moment, sorry.

I'm new to stained glass and I'm trying to learn by videos. Unfortunately I don't have any classes around me. I'm having a problem with my solder or my flux or? When I apply my solder a little bits of hot flux and solder are flying everywhere almost like I'm boiling the flux and then it reacts and pushes the solder out. I'm wearing all the safety stuff but I don't think this is normal from watching your videos. You have any advice? I'm using 60/40, Novacan flux and a Hakko 601 soldering iron. Thank you

Try using less flux and turning the heat of the iron down slightly Lyndsay. Don't work too long in one place. I don't know if you know but I have a step-by-step online course for beginners and refreshers? It's called Stained Glass Made Perfect and you can find out if it would be useful for you here: www.everything-stained-glass-school.com/p/stained-glass-made-perfect-1

Would it work if you overlay a wider piece of copper that reaches both sides and then just solder on top? Just a thought
@everything-stained-glass2 жыл бұрын
Good idea Sunshine M but not so strong, as effectively you'd be creating a gap which isn't good structurally.

If you forget the tape and it leaks through, can you heat it up on the other side and "redirect" it back onto the copper line?
@everything-stained-glass3 жыл бұрын
When you say 'forget the tape', do you mean not sticking it around the glass at all? That won't work if you mean that, you'll have to get the piece out and put foil on it. Hope that helps.

How hot do you keep your soldering iron?
@everything-stained-glass5 жыл бұрын
360 on the Hakko. As always with soldering it depends what you're soldering and how quick you're going. You don't want too much heat on filling in gaps as the solder will want to run away through the gaps. Good luck!

Was it just me or were there only 2 ways to fill gaps, not 3?
@everything-stained-glass4 жыл бұрын
There is a 3rd way at the end of the video; not using any filler, just one layer of solder, cool, it, and then the final layer on top. You can use 50/50 for the first layer and 60/40 on top. Thanks for your question, I hope that clears it up.
