I really love the simplicity of these cards. They are beautiful Jennifer. Thanks for sharing three different ways to do this process.

I have seen the foil technique on HSN years ago. In fact that episode is still on You Tube. They were promoting the Purple Cow Laminator. You have great a demo and the way you explain everything .... you are really good. Thanks for all the info!

I don;t have a laminator - would an iron work?
@roidroid9 жыл бұрын
If you don't have a laminator, i bet a clothes iron would work just as well. Use a layer of paper or something so it doesn't stick to the iron, and apply a lot of pressure. They use a similar technique to make prototype circuit boards: Print the circuit design onto paper with a laser-printer, then use an iron to stick it to the copper of an unprocessed circuitboard PCB. The ink then protects the underlying copper from the acid bath step, thus leaving the resulting PCB with just the copper traces that the ink protected. Laser printer ink is just plastic, it melts onto the paper, with heat and pressure it can be re-melted so it's sticky and will grab foil (like you're doing in this video).

Is there a way to use foil without a laminator? These are beautiful and the foil adds so much. Love these cards. TFS
@khricket9 жыл бұрын
***** try using scrap perfect glue. I use a similar type glue to put foil on my nails, so I assume that would work.
@roidroid9 жыл бұрын
+Donna Dacy yes the heat from a clothes iron should work if you don't have a laminator (but use a layer of paper to protect the iron from things sticking to it), use plenty of pressure.
@craftycreationsbyniki9 жыл бұрын
I love this idea with the foil. But I was wondering can this be done with any laminator or only with the one you are using? Also can you use the foil with vellum putting the color side down so you get this nice soft foil look to the vellum? Thank so much for sharing.

+Elizabeth Nicole Smith (Crafty Creations by NIki) I realized that I was ending up with the same questions as many other commenters and it would do me no good to ask them all again. Did you ever get an answer? thanks:)

They sure seem like simple questions. I love the look of vellum and would love to make candle holders for the battery operated tea lights. They would look beautiful, lit or not. :)
@roidroid9 жыл бұрын
It should work with any laminator (or even a clothes iron), all you need is pressure and heat. The ink from a laser-printer is essentially just plastic melted onto the paper, the goal is to re-melt it.

in all my recent card making (first attempts at embossing and using foam for shaker windows) im having issues with adhesive. tombow is too messy/puckers paper, adhesive runners aren't good for thin areas- and lets face it run out FAR too quick. double stick tape are also too thick for thin die spaces like the lines of these roses and letters. what are you using? is there some sort of super strong glue stick that is as thin as a ball point pen????

+Rebecca Suraci I use a Xyron machine. I run very fine die cut workds through it and it is super sticky. Use a 40% off coupon from Michaels or Hobby Lobby. Good luck!

+Rebecca Suraci Hi Rebecca ~ Another option is to use Ranger Multi Medium Matte. It has a VERY strong hold, dries clear and has a pretty narrow tip. Little dabs of that work well on most anything I've tried it on and I've been making cards for many years. It's available on Amazon and several online craft shops. Hope this helps.

Isn't there another way to use foil without buying, yet again, another machine? Seems we did foiling years ago with some sticky type embossing powder....
@prettypaperthings8 жыл бұрын
that is good for a stamp. but for you own printed images the laminator is great. mine was under 20 dollars. and I can also now laminate for cheap. you can try and iron, I haven't tried it

i also have use glue like the nuvo or zig 2 way pen. put it on the stamp., put the foil on then I run it through my big shot or big kick. and you can foil that way.

You talk so fast I would have to watch this several times before I understood the directions well enough to repeat them. It is kind of frustrating. It would help if you put words on the screen to emphasize the key points. Sometimes less is more and you put in so many details that are nice but maybe if they were added at the end of each one. Just focus on the key steps. A good review of instructional design would improve these videos. I finally turned the sound off and understood it a lot better.
