A tip if you don't mind...I take a black sheet of cardstock and 10 sheets of white cardstock with me to Office Max and copy the black cardstock onto the white cardstock! That way I can use dies, punches, and die cutting machines!

I just wanted to tell you thank you so, so, so much!!!! I don't own a hot foil machine, nor do I want to buy one because then I have to buy hot foil dies. I don't even own a laser printer. I had your black page download printed at OfficeMax, rushed home to try it out and I'm absolutely in love! It works beautifully! I will be buying a laser printer (I can justify it easier since it will allow me to foil using my existing dies), if you have a new laser printer suggestion as of 2020 (since this is an older video), I'd be ever so grateful! Thanks again!!!! You're absolutely amazing!!!!!

Jennifer what a great tutorial about foil and the different ways to apply it. Like you I found out that my foil wasn't doing a clean enough job because my laminator just wasn't hot enough so like you I let my machine warm up for about 20 / 25 minutes and it was really nice and warm. I put my pieces through and they laminated beautifully. what a joy to see the beauty of it. Mine is a Two Cows laminator that I got at Costco's and it was just about $18. I can say it works fine as long as you give it time to really warm up properly. Then you can laminate in peace. I didn't want to make the big investment of a fancy machine as I didn't know how I would like working with foil. I love it. As long as my machine holds up .... I'm going to keep using it until it dies on me. lol. Then maybe I'll have the funds for the fancy ones. Thanks Jennifer another great video. pat

I want to share a tip with you too, Jennifer. I bought some fuseable webbing at Joann's. The kind that is used in sewing. I bought a light weight webbing. I cut out one of my dies with it and used it in my laminator. It worked beautifully. You could also use it with an iron. Just wanted to share.

I was wondering for my Christmas cards I want to do foiling. If I printed the message for the inside of card with laser print would that work with foil? Plus how long will the laser last for me to run the foil on it. Say I printed 20 laser jet but couldn’t get to them for a couple days will the laser print still work? F so what type of paper do you use with a laser jet? I think mine only allows typing paper.

Hi Jennifer. After discovering you and your fabulous videos, I am back into stamping in a big way and your foiling videos really got me hooked. I did discover though that not all laser printers use toner; I printed out your toner .pdf (thank you) and put it through the laminator many times with no success. Well, I thought to myself, maybe the laminator wasn't working, so I tried it and it worked just fine. I was so disappointed until I thought to ask my husband, who told me ours has some other kind of ink - I thought this might help if others are thinking of getting a laser printer. In other news, my Joann's has the Minc foil and accessories on clearance at half off!! I ordered a different, cheap laser printer which comes tomorrow so I'm very excited. Thanks for your inspiring videos!!

I just discovered your channel today and find it's amazing. The foil techniques are relly great for many different works, I love it! I dont know if you're gonna read this comment, since this video is old, but if it helps, what makes the foil stick to the laser toner is that the toner they use in laser printers is based on wax, the laser just heats a wax powder and melts it making it stick to the paper, so when you use your foil technique with the laminator, the heat melts the wax again and makes the foil stick to it :) I hope that bit of knowledge can lead to other techniques as well :)

I'm off to watch your No heat foil technique next up. I'm searching for methods to add foil to faux leathers and vinyls without worry about melting the plastic materials of course. So finding your tutorials today very helpful and providing ideas that might work well too. (I also have a few glimmer heat embossing dies so of course they require HEAT. A full set of Zodiac night sky star shapes in these heat embossing dies. SO of course I want to use vinyl because I am making personalized itty note books for an office of 5 people who for fun I thought it would be nice to do their Zodiac Signs on their favorite colors but in vinyl so the covers hold up better than cardstock. There are several difficulties with this and one is just being able to squeeze the vinyl thickness into a paper punch and then not melting vinyl via any form of heat, iron, laminator or a specialized glimmer like item. I think I'll try to laminate anyway as I have 3 laminators all over 20 years old but one is what was called a BIG Mouth which meant it accepted a foam board about 1/8 maybe a big thicker I don't recall but I still have some of the materials to check it out. Any way this laminator if needed might help. Another thing I was thinking in both this video and your 5 favorite ways to use foil was when using the thin double stick materials you could actually run it through the embossing machine to add more pressure than maybe using the bone smoother would accomplish. But such great shares on different techniques. I'm off to play. I also have heat a pen that heats up to free hand write with it. Again worry if it's too hot for the vinyls. I see on line where people have bought A5 and A6 note journal books made of vinyl and some foil with heat well others do not. But I have a few more ideas to use faux leathers with foiling and just hope it works. Thanks again for your shares.

Hi Jennifer! I have no idea if you are still going to read this, since it is a tutorial from 2 years ago, but a great one ;), I wanted to ask, if you do not have a laminator, can you do these thechniques with an irion, specially the last one? And do you know why the foil stays on the embossing? It sounds so stange, cause there is nothing "special" about an embossed stamp that would make it so that foiling sheet would stick to it. I am curious if it would work without the embossing, just stamping with the versa. I have loads of video's to catch up on. but i have learned a lot already! thanks you for your great tutorials grts Anke!

I just got some sticky embossing powder that supposedly doesn't require the laminator or other heat source. Are you ever going to do a video about using sticky embossing powder?
@prettypaperthings8 жыл бұрын
it actually does require a heat source. it is called a heat gun. you stamp with versamark, pour the sticky embossing powder, zap it with the heat gun , and once melted, quickly put the foil, and wait to cool. also try the nuvo glue or zig two way glue pen on your stamps. put the foil and run it through your big shot or die cutting machine. also scor tape will work with foil. but it's nice to print out your own designs or die cut them. my laminator was under 20 $ at Walmart

Have you ever considered releasing the toner onto say, wood or something like that? Then, once there, do you think it'll still stick? Because now the toner will be part of the piece. I just wonder cause I do a transfer of the toner with acetone from a reverse image.
