I was having trouble playing the drums for my band becausw I didnt memorise the notes but when our instructor played he improvised everything except for the bass which still sounded prettt cool.

Thank you so much for this video. I'm a beginner on drums. I used to play classical piano where everything is written out and I find it difficult to improvise and having no music sheet to follow. I have a question : Do you count 1-2-3-4 or 1&-2&-3&-4& (or anything sinilar) in your head when you are improvising or do you simply micmic the click sound of the metronome in your head? I tend to get lost in my exercices: Not knowing what beat I'm on in the bar/on the lead sheet, or mixing ways of counting. Part of it is probably not being focused enough and/or nervousness. Any tips? Thanks!!

It doesn’t really matter if you count 1-2-3-4 or 1&2&3&4 It really depends on what works for you. Sometimes metronomes don’t work for you, and that’s okay. You just gotta try a bunch of shit Go slowly-even if it’s “too slow” go slowly, so you can get the muscle memory down (along with the counts) Just test out both ways of counting
